I got some aden & anais muslin blankets and wanted to practice swaddling. I have no dolls or anything, but I do have a small dog. It did not go well. Ever tried to swaddle a 17-pound terrier mutt?

I wish I had a smaller dog so I could try the ergo.

My good friend's husband wrapped up one of their cats in a moby wrap and wore her around while making dinner. I was pretty impressed. (He was practicing for when he took their infant cross country skiing).

Okay so, this may not seem like a big deal to some, but I just threw up for the first time since fifth grade (I'm 25 now)! Somewhere in middle school I developed this ridiculous fear of vomiting and thought I would just die if I ever got sick. Call me crazy, but I'm almost glad it happened. It totally wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.

I know, I'm ridiculous right? It's the little things in life haha. (Although I'm still hoping it was a one-time deal!)

I definitely have a phobia of throwing up. I'll do anything to prevent it, and I can't remember the last time it happened. It's just the worst feeling ever!

Why are you looking at what has been purchased on your registry at all?  Doesn't that kill the surprise when you actually get your gifts?  Were you one of those people that shook the gifts under the Christmas tree too?

I'm glad it's not just me, but I hate that you the same phobia. DH was trying to talk me through things last night, but it's like I wasn't letting myself throw up. Weirdest thing ever. It finally happened and it wasn't fun, but wasn't as awful as I remember it being. I've always felt like such a freak for being so afraid of something so normal.

You mean have double of everything because my mom watched him? She will still be watching him, so I need to get my own separate second versions of things for our house.

I was saying I need second versions of items since in our old house we only spent time with him downstairs in the living room (smaller townhome). This new house we spend a lot of time in our bonus/"run free and get your energy out" room so I don't want to have to carry like a swing or rock and play or play mat up and down the stairs if we decide to hang out up there for 3 or 4 hours.

I don't think it's all that uncommon, especially if you have more than one registry, when my ex-H and I got married we kept an eye on them so that way if something got purchased off of one registry we removed it from the other.

It's still a surprise as to who bought it, but really couldn't it be said that even creating a registry "kills the surprise" of getting a gift?
I'll probably be one of those look-at-the-registry people too. It's not so much a "need to know what I got" thing for me but I have some OCD and things like obsessively checking registries, or making the same list over and over again soothes me when it comes to a very exciting event like this. I was really excited for my wedding and I checked our registry because it was like something I could be doing in the meantime when there was nothing to do but wait until the big day.I'm not good at waiting, but I'm good at compulsive activities like that! Also, my mom kept getting called that there weren't enough things on the list so I added some as I went just in case.

  • I am only into day 2 of this really getting down to business to build this garage and I already want to bash my head off the desk.

My head was spinning from all of the information I was given the by town's building department.  Lord, I hope we don't have to go before the zoning board and get a variance, but it depends on what the contractors can come up.  So this afternoon we have 2 guys coming to check things out at the same time and also our realtor just to get her opinion for best option for resale.

Most annoying thing right now is we have 2 septic tanks - one is abandoned and the other is in use.  For the life of me, I can't remember which one is which, but if it is the one I think it is, then we would have to move it because it would end up being under the new garage foundation.  The company that pumped the tank right before we moved in noted there was an abandoned tank, but didn't mention which was which.  So I just feel like an idiot for not remembering.  I was just out there with a shovel trying to dig where the second tank is covered with snow, but it's actually a sheet of ice.  Sigh.  At least the septic company is coming on Friday to pump it again so we'll know for sure (AGAIN) which tank is in use.  And like a good homeowner, I'll make a note of it this time!

This will all be so worth come June/July when this project is hopefully finished.

  • SO got called into work at the last minute and didn't have time to make his lunch before he left.. I offered to bring it to him later, however I fully intend to call him and tell him he has to come out to my car and get it since I've decided that because it's the only reason I'm leaving the house I'm just throwing a hoodie over my t-shirt and pj pants, and no I'm not wearing a bra either.

I'm pretty sure in the time it takes for me to go from my back door to my driveway no one will notice the girls are free-wheelin' it.
I got fitted for a new bra and it had lace on the bottom and it itched so bad i thought someone dropped fire ants down my shirt. So i took it off and worked the rest of the day without it (I wear a white lab coat so it wasnt super obvious if you werent looking) but im pretty sure youre fine!
  • @MSUDucks @JP27 @Shanicenicolle

Thanks ladies! It was so scary. I'm a total worrywart, too, so this just added to my anxiety about his job. Luckily, most of his routes don't include a mountain road, so I'm hoping this is a one-time thing!

All of his supervisors told him he was insane and the only driver they have that could've made it off of that mountain.

(Also, I'm pretty superstitious and all, but I'm thinking that St. Christopher's keychain my mom gave him for Christmas helped out, too.)

I have died every day waiting for you. Darling, don't be afraid, I have loved you for a thousand years. And all along I believed I would find you, time has brought your heart to me. I have loved you for a thousand years. I'll love you a thousand more.

@knittylady‌ - I'm not sure how much snow you have, but our septic (working) typically melts the snow above it faster than any other part of the yard. So I'd assume your working one would have less snow and ice than the non-working one. Good luck and congrats on the garage addition!
Now that's an interesting thought!  If that's the case then maybe all is not lost because one of them is completely uncovered and the ground around it clear too.  What was adding to the confusion is that one has just a metal plate over top of it (this is the iced over one) and the other one is pretty much covered again with dirt.  The employee at the septic company guess that the one left uncovered with the metal plate is the one in use, but that's only a guess.  DH may decide  to completely dig out and lift up the metal plate.  Ick, that's all him.

Yeah, I didn't word my response well at all. I meant to say that you buying stuff was fine cuz you only have to buy one of each right now since you still should have one each from T. It's not like you're just replacing things cuz you want things that are shiny and new :) I get ya girl!

  • 1. I'm wearing the Old Navy demi-panel khakis today for the first time. They are too big, too long, and keep falling down...but I didn't return them because it was a mail-only return and I was too lazy. So now I'm just hoping my belly and ass grow into them :-)

    2. People keep asking me if I'm ok today. I'm obviously doing a poor job hiding the fact that I'm barely awake and completely out of it.

    3. Every time I yell at my students (can we just skip the part where I explain why I have to yell all the time?) I feel so guilty. Little James is going to come out with anxiety and hearing problems. I try to be zen, I really do...but often I fail.

Had a doctors appointment today and the good news is everything looked good at my anatomy scan. Except apparently the baby's head is slightly elongated. My doctor said she wasn't worried at all but I cannot help but be anxious. We have a follow up scan in four weeks.
I hope time flies by over the next four weeks. I know with the house anxiety the last thing you need is more anxiety. I'm sure everything will be just fine, but I'll be sending prayers anyway.

Thank you for your thoughts. I'll definitely update after my next scan! Hopefully by that time we will have our housing situation figured out too so it would be double the stress relief.
I was! Fingers crossed for a good outcome all around.

I hear a lot of women get bored pretty quickly being at SAHM. It's exciting when their kids are babies but when they're off to school, that's when the boredom kicks in. Then the pottery and tap dancing classes start and the volunteering lol

I personally work both at home and in the office so it's neat to enjoy both settings. But I think I'd lose my mind if I was home most of the time. It's not for everybody.

Yeah, I'm going to disagree with that reasoning. If you have multiple registries and happen to get duplicates, if it's something you really don't need 2 of, just return the extra one. Also, just because you created the registry doesn't mean you're going to get what's on it, so the simple fact of creating it has nothing to do with the surprise of receiving the gift.

  • DS has a GI Bug and I had to pick him up early from school. He's had some suspicious diapers and hasn't eaten much since Sunday, but DC called it today. I really don't mind too much and I am able to work from home, but how sick can he be if he just spent over an hour falling asleep for his afternoon nap?

My reasoning is, I want to know what I'm getting. 'Cus.

I'm not a 5 year old who has a bike brought out on Christmas morning and I need to cover my eyes. It's a baby shower gift, not a surprise engagement :) Besides, it helps me determine whether I can buy something if I see it on sale super cheap, or to not bother since someone else got it.

I definitely agree with all of this. Also, the hour plus return trip it would take me to return a duplicate gift, plus paying for parking, etc. is definitely not worth the trade off for a greater "surprise". If I can avoid extra work by checking my registry, I'll do it.

It's very possible! I just wish I had the freedom to make the decision.
I was really torn up about this before my first. As in, I cried myself to sleep many times while I was still pregnant because I was so upset I couldn't SAH. Maternity leave cured me of that. I'm just not cut out to be a SAHP. I love my child, but I value my time at work.
You guys are all awesome. I feel like my friends are all judging me for making the choice to stay at home. I'm going to try to work part time but the company I work for will likely be resistant to that idea and I'll wind up staying home full time then eventually getting a part time job somewhere else down the line. I thought it was going to be easier to decide on but now all these new fears pop up about staying at home. I guess every new mom has fears about everything :)
