Re: What are you reading?

  • I am finishing up Harvesting the Heart by Jodi Picoult. While it's a decent book I'm glad I'm at the end. I just can't with either of the main characters.

  • I've always seen those books on lists, but haven't read them.

  • I'm reading The Dark is Rising by Susan Cooper (part 2 of a five-part sequence) and A Conspiracy of Friends (the third Corduroy Mansions novel) by Alexander McCall Smith.

  • The Ruby Blue series. It's a YA series with quirk, fairies, romance, danger...

  • I'm stuck right now. I read maybe 10 or 12 books in December and January and haven't been able to find anything that keeps my interest since then. I started The Invention of Wings and Windfallen but haven't gotten past the first 30 pages in either of them. A couple of other books on my list are Hyde and Winter's Tale. I'm hoping to pick up the pace soon!

  • After finishing the Divergent series I haven't started anything new. Well, I bought a book at a garage sale called "Why Moms are Weird." I started it and it stinks. I think it's going in the donate pile if it doesn't get better in a few more pages.

  • Dr Sleep by Stephen King, which is really good, but I'm reading in spurts because it's an actual book on my nightstand and by the time I make it to bed most nights, I'm just too tired.

Also reading Lemon Tree on my phone. It's a non fiction story about a home in Israel and the relationship forged between the Israeli young woman whose family owns it and the Palestinian refugee whose family fled from it. I like it, but I usually read with a not so little anymore baby on my lap so I'm struggling a little.
  • @CrazyCornball‌ those are on my list too

Have you read The Passage by Justin Cronin? It's an apocalyptic trilogy. Absolutely amazing and not young adult. The first and second books are out right now. I'm impatiently awaiting the third to come out. Eta: typing is hard.
I haven't! I need something different and this might be it. Thanks!

  • I have been working the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series (I'm on book 2) for awhile now. Haven't been reading much unfortunately.

First time? How can you put it down?

  • Im finishing up A Dance with Dragons (last book in the Song of Ice and Fire series aka Games of Thrones). About to start The Fault in Our Stars for my book club.

I also recently finished Dance With Dragons. We discuss book spoilers in my Westeros private group, just FYI...

  • Miss Perigrine's Home for Peculiar Children.  It's a good, quick, creepy mystery book.  I'm almost done, so hopefully the end doesn't disappoint.  That said, I hardly ever like the end to any book.
  • 'Dance, dance, dance' by Haruki Murakami. I love him soooo much.

I think I got halfway through Triangles and then it was due back and I never finished it. I plan to read it now though.

  • Haven't really started anything new since I finished the Divergent series. I picked up a couple of little romance novels at a yard sale but haven't been in the mood to read them. I just want allll the post-apocalyptic and dystopian novels, I'll have to look at the one mentioned above. Does the bump do a book club thread?

  • I rally rally need to start A Memory of Light. It's the last book in The Wheel of Time series but it has been so long since I read the book before it that I think it is time to start the series over.

Probably won't. My only issue is that it is an actual hardcover book and it is much easier to read on my phone while nursing etc.

This is so cool! I kind of want to go re-read all the kid books, though. The Westing Game never gets old...

  • I'm still reading the same 800+ page book I was reading the last time someone posted this question -- "The Luminaries." It is an interesting story -- sort of a mystery-- but it is moving soooooo slooowwlly.

    I'm also getting to reread
The Westing Game right now with one of my sixth grade reading groups.  They are loving it.  We also played Clue to introduce the book, and they were amazed by the game (they had never played it before...stupid video-game-take-over of all games).
  • I just started Hollow City the second book in this series

I had the same problem with A Memory of Light. I just refreshed myself with the Wikipedia page for the books before it. It saved time and reminded me about what all the characters had been doing.

  • I'm reading The Wind-Up Bird Chronicles by Haruki Murakami. It's the fourth book I've read by him and I've loved them all.
  • Late to the party: I'm halfway through the third book in the Dark Tower Series by Stephen King. I'm really enjoying it. The first book was hard to get through, but worth it to get to the second and third.

I'm reading the series over again and am on the last book. I fucking love The Dark Tower. You will love the fourth book; it's amazing.
It is pretty amazing so far! I love the whole dynamic between Eddie and Roland.
  • @kasstik I just wanna say stick with the series through the end, it is truly worth it. I absolutely love the Dark Tower.
  • I love Stephen King. I think I may have to try the series. I still need to read It. I'm sad i got turned on to his books so late.

Did you know he has a new one coming out in November I think. Its name is Revival.

  • Another Picoult reader here. I think I've read all of her books, but I hadn't read The Pact. I started it once before but couldn't get through it. Picked it back up again and read it in less than 24 hours. Just finished it about an hour ago.

It was pretty good. I kind of knew the story already since I'd started it before and there was at TV movie made based on the book that I caught bits and pieces of.
