We sent the baby to the nursery twice for sleep. I had no intentions of doing that but man a lIttle sleep was amazing!! I don't feel bad at all!!
Apparently at my hospital they encourage you to do this. You can room with the baby the whole time, but they're like, "you will get better sleep if you let the nurses take them down to the nursery, and they'll bring them back when it's time to nurse etc." DH gets to follow kiddo around wherever he goes so we are both totally down with this!
He stayed with us most of the time. We sent 2 times for a couple hours. We would have honestly died without the sleep. I fed him and they took him and then planned to bring him back by his next feeding. I went and picked him up both times!
My hospital doesn't even have a well baby nursery....except for adoption cases or babies that are being removed. Baby rooms in with us no matter what, unless he needs the NICU. I have mixed feelings on this....most of the time I love how breastfeeding and bonding oriented they are, but then i think, sleep.....
In our class our nurse told us that baby stays with us 24/7, but that the nursery is there as an option if we need it. She tried to reassure us that the nurses don't judge if you need to send your baby away for a couple hours, but I don't buy it.

I'm currently writing my 'Thank You' cards for my baby shower...
COMMENCE ETIQUETTE DEBATE
Me too. One shower down, one to go tomorrow! Yay! I like being ahead of the game...thank yous for shower number one from last week, DONE! Nothing is going to pile up on this woman!
Sigh. Hopefully it's so late no one will be up to read this and my shame can silently live on...
Our Bassett hound sleeps in our bed every night and uses my pregnancy pillow more than I do (I just use it as a barrier so he can't make me spoon him with my huge belly - that's super uncomfortable.)
My shameful secret? I highly doubt he will be kicked out of the bed when the baby comes, even though I know it's what *should* happen. Poor baby will sleep on my side of the bed in a pack n' play. I'm just not sure what to expect during midnight feedings, I can't let the baby fall asleep on my boob with a dog right next to him (lots of my friends told me their babies fell asleep on their boobs during the late night feedings), so I might end up sleeping in the guest room with the baby while my husband and dog sleep together in our bed.
Whew. I feel better.
No shame! Our beagle sleeps in our bed, most of the time he wiggles his way between DH and me. He's a spooner too lol. Baby will be in a pack n play next to my side of the bed too....that decision had nothing to do with the dog, frankly I wouldn't bed share based on the way DH and I sleep I feel it wouldn't be safe in or situation anyway. No reason to kick the dog out of the bed then lol
No shame here either! our schnoodle (schnauzer/poodle/mutt/mix) sleeps in our bed most of the time. He has his own doggy bed in our room, but he prefers ours... and he sleeps under the covers usually. He wont be kicked out when baby mainly because he usually waits until both DH and I are asleep to get into the bed and we dont notice him until morning! LO will sleep in a rock n' play on my side of the bed. But that decision was also made based on DH's inability to share a bed with anyone! Major bed hog!

our little dog will be in the bed too, and when my SO isn't there, it will be me, little dog and big dog with the baby in the pack and play. I don't see it being an issue, as long as I make the pit bull sleep on SO's side (not next to the pack and play) because he is like a boulder to try and move when he's sleeping. And I know when I get up for changes/feedings he's going to park his ass in the middle of the bed, never fails. Can't wait!

A day late, but oh well. DH told MIL that we are moving across the country yesterday and she is super sad and upset, and he is really torn up about it. I pretended to feel bad, but I feel 0% bad/guilty.
Sigh. Hopefully it's so late no one will be up to read this and my shame can silently live on...

My cat also sleeps in the bed with us and I WONT kick him out. I know, you are thinking that it is just a cat but he's 22 pounds so he is a dog really! I already feel bad enough training him not to go in the baby's room at all so I can't kick him out of the bed too! We will just see how it plays out, the cat/dog might even just leave on their own when the baby is nursing in the bed...
Our pup has always slept in the bed with us -- right in between us under the covers. She is definitely a reason we could never bed share. No shame in that game! DD was perfectly happy in the PNP pushed up against my side of the bed.
