UO Thursday!

Re: UO Thursday!

  • Its not a law here to wear helmets and I never realized it was a thing. I need to read up on this because I feel like it would be hypocritical of me to ERF but not put a helmet on my kid but it seems odd.

  • My UO is with driving.  My driver's ed taught me to stop completely at the actual stop sign (read: behind the stop line), then roll up and stop again where all normal people actually make their stops.

UO1 - unless there's a cop behind you, make your stop where normal people do.

UO2 - If your dorky ass wants to make your stop 10 feet behind the stop sign, then either GO for your turn at a 4-way stop from that line, or wave the next person on and lose your turn while you make 500 stops at every farking intersection.  Don't expect everyone to wait for you to roll up and make your second stop so you can take your turn.

I'm not sure where you live so I can only speak for my area but around here our potholes can get massive and sometimes you can't even tell they are pot holes because of water or snow etc. We've got some major ones around here right now. While I'm not about to go over one just to get somewhere faster, sometimes they are unavoidable and can do some major damage to vehicles. My mom ended up going over one on a major road through town. She was a few cars back at a stop light. It turned green and she ended up going right through the hole. $400 damage. Our city never paid for it.

Apparently you haven't been to upstate NY this time of year.  I don't even know that these can be considered potholes but rather giant holes in the earth's surface, that may in fact lead to China if you are swallowed up by them.  And in a lot of cases, there's no way to avoid them.

We pay taxes (really freaking high taxes) so that they can be fixed in a timely manner.

This reminds me of something I saw on the news (I live in MI)  and the anchor was interviewing the road commissioner or whoever was over the roads, and the guy was like "look, we know it's bad, and guess what, it's about to get worse as the thaw comes so drive safe."  I guess they can't repair them till spring actually hits and the roads expand.  It sucks because there are some potholes that sneak up on you in turns and you really just can't avoid or dodge, and even at 20-30 mph it's rough on tires. I'm learning where the ones are on my way to work and it scares me how much the other vehicles swerve to dodge them.  I just try to miss them the best I can safely.

  • Not a UO (I doubt at least) but I am pissed about the Prime prices going up. I know it will still be worth it for us, but $99 just seems like SO much for free shipping and all the other perks without knowing exactly how much I have saved so far.

Especially when lately I get things 4-5 days later. Not 2.

Maybe in the time right after winter, however the city/municipality also has a responsibility to repair things as quickly as possible, soI would not take the responsibility off of them completely to do the work whenever they feel like it.

I don't like it when people have 2+ kids and dress them identically from head to toe. LIke 2 boys or 2 girls. Complimenting attire fine (for pictures, events etc) not in every day life and not the same damn outfit down to the socks. It seems so stupid to me.

But the kids might love it.  W and my niece think it's A-MAZING.  Just like when W is dressed head to toe in doc mcstuffins, don't assume I think it's the most awesome thing in the world.  I just like to see my kid smile.
I think that's different then picking up 2 new outfits. One for Johnny and one for Steve that are the exact same thing so they match in a picture. It just makes no sense to me. I have a friend who does this for every picture. To me the oufits should compliment one another not be exactly the same!

  • I think as parents, until our kids are at a point where they can start making their own decisions or fighting us on our decision it's up to us to decide how they dress. Kenleigh/Mason can pick out their outfits on their own and match or not match or whatever, but if it's in their closet to pick from I obviously approved it to begin with.

A baby in a bikini is freaking adorable...they are babies/toddlers for God's sake.

I like Taylor and Miley, still. Maybe that is a UO here.

I also agree with the new law regarding women banning whomever they want from the delivery room. Brilliant. I also can't believe this had to become a law. Anyone who has any amount of decency should respect that decision anyway, dads/husbands included.

My kids make a lot of messes with their toys and I'm like, meh, but when it comes to finger painting or playing with shaving cream or whatever I'm a little more hesitant. I'm lame and don't want to clean up the potential mess that comes with that. I figure that's why I pay daycare. I probably suck as a parent in this regard.

  • Emma thinks the best thing in the world is when she and Sawyer have the exact same outfit on. It makes her happy and doesn't bother me at all. It's obviously not everyday, since they don't have that many matching clothes.

I think I dressed pretty skanky from 17-20. Looking back I realize I was looking for male attention because my dad never gave it to me. I was way too naive to understand the signals I was sending out with the way I was dressing. I'm hoping that my girls will have more self esteem and respect for themselves than I did and won't feel the need to dress for attention. At least, not the kind of attention I wanted.

Agreed.  I was so excited for the kids to get back in daycare because they do photos 3 times a year, in addition to the sessions I do every 6 months.  I don't think it's excessive.  I can't ever imagine looking back and thinking that I shouldn't have gotten so many pictures.

And that is completely fine. I'm just not going out and buying new outfits for every picture so Kid A and Kid B have the exact same outfit on. It's cute once in a while for sure especially because "sister" or "brother" have the same outfit.

    STUCK

In the city I go to school in, it's literally you swerve to miss one, you hit another.  And they aren't little, they're massive.  We just paid over $200 to fix my car because I hit one while trying to avoid another.  The roads here are horrendous.

  • I really didn't think Nancy needed a helmet to be on her Radio Flyer trike.

In most places the bike laws are for 2 wheels, not 3, so technically she doesn't need a helmet. That said, my kid is already showing signs of 'well, i didn't have to do it that way last time' that I don't want to fight with her when she is on 2 wheels. Plus she has a strider bike that does require a helmet, so I have her in one for consistency.

FWIW, it only took her 2 rides to stop fighting the helmet.

You prompted me to look up helmet laws here and Wisconsin doesn't have them, hence why it seemed weird to me. :-)

    • Though wearing a helmet is strongly encouraged, there currently is no law making bicycle helmets mandatory.

  • $100 is still a total steal for Prime if you really use it.  I bet we've saved at least $1000 because of it. Between free streaming shows and movies, savings in general, and buying stuff from amazon.

We've had a crib, dresser, two punching bags delivered.  Those delivery fees probably would've been $100 each.
I know my treadmill alone paid for it last year. I use the free book every month and all the free streaming. I am just irritated that it is going up. I know it is worth it for us.

  • I found out last night that my 22 y/o nephew knocked up some 18 year old drug addict that he's been sleeping with and her FB announcement was "Dude and I are expecting a baby and if you don't like it, you can suck it."  It's the first time in my life I've ever thought "Man, I wish she would have had an abortion when she found out."  My nephew has had a rough life and is in the same cycle of drugs/drinking/poor choices that my brother was in.  It's just so sad that he's perpetuating the cycle of stupid.

She's due right around my due date and is still using, although is "only" doing pills because doing "the hard stuff" isn't good while pregnant.  It makes me sick.

I think it would be exhausting to coordinate outfits all the time. We mostly-coordinated for our family pictures. Once.

UO: I enjoy coordinating. They have to get dressed anyway so why not "go"? I coordinate at LEAST the kids outfits 90% of the tine, including normal every day activities like school.

Is there a way for you to report her using?  If you've seen it first hand?

We have a program that is part of our Family Preservation services where we work with pregnant drug addicted mothers to help them stop using and gain parenting skills prior to the baby being born.

It might be a way to help the baby at least?
I haven't seen her using first hand.  She has put some things on FB, (clearly because she's an idiot,) but that's fantastic information.  Thank you for that.  I'll be looking into that right now and passing it along to my nephew.

I've never had a banana pepper.  Or a pickle.  Just the smell of these things turns my stomach so I've never even attempted ingesting them.  If there's a pickle touching part of my sandwich at a restaurant I rip that part of the bread off.  Similarly, if there's banana peppers in the pizza box, I won't eat the piece that it's touching.

The school I taught at had pictures twice a year. I wasn't a huge fan just because it was like pulling teeth trying to get the pictures/payments back. Once a year for that would've been more than enough.
