How did you tell your DH/Partner?

My DH and I went to Phillies opening day as one of our first dates.  So to tell him, I printed out a ticket for "opening day of parenthood".  It was cute.  I also had bought a little baseball onesie to give to him.  His reaction "How 'bout that?!" and then he started laughing.  Not like it was a huge surprise or anything because, hi, he kinda had a big part in this "Trying" thing, but he was surprised and excited.

  • Hubby was at work when I found out so I texted him that I'd like us to eat out tonight (we've been trying to eat healthy at home for the past few months). So when he got home I was dressed up, had the song 'this is gonna be the best day of my life' playing in the background. I was leaning on the door frame and asked how his day was as he took of his coat, he said it was tiring so I said you'll have to cheer up and smiled, then said it again. We've been tying since November so I guess he figured it out, asking why as he approached me and then he put his hand on my tummy and said 'is there something here?' I nodded, he was ecstatic; we hugged and teared up a bit.
  • I handed him the pee stick while I was brushing my teeth.

    @missnacholover, are you from Philly?

  • I had planned to do something romantic, but DH caught me peeing in the downstairs bathroom. He wanted to know why I hadn't gone upstairs and asked if I was testing. I said "maybe..." because I was staring in shock as what I thought to be the control line actually turned out to be a super dark BFP! (I had prepared myself for a negative test, since it was only our 2nd month trying). I called through the door "are you ready for this?" Then I came out and showed him the test. He said "wow." Not the romantic surprise I had in my head, but it was still memorable!

  • We're cautious, so I just texted the cryptic  "ambiguous test results... will have to try again tomorrow", and then later that day on the way home, I called him and told him to pick up the two sticks that were next to my bed, and asked if he could agree that that there was the faintest of lines. He did, and then he moved on to dinner plans. We haven't let ourselves get excited yet, but it's obviously creeping up, we've mentioned November and baby a few more times than we anticipated (we were going to pretend it wasn't happening until heartbeat. Hard to do that!) I wish we could let loose and get excited (I already missed the opportunity on my first ever BFP) but, I guess that ain't who we are...
  • I took a cheapie test last Saturday, I just had a feeling and sure enough I got a very faint line, but it was there! I ran into the livingroom where DH was watching tv and said "I think I have a start to a BFP". Not very exciting, I think the shock took over!! We are both super excited and super nervous!

  • I had been bugging my husband to put up a baby gate near our stairs because they are so dangerous and our nieces and nephews come over often. He kept putting it off for months so I wrote out a daddy to do list and taped it to the baby gate. He saw it first thing when he got home from work and we just stared giggling and couldn't stop. This is our first and we are just so excited!
  • I tested on a Saturday morning, H was away for the weekend. He told me not to test until he got home but I just couldn't wait. I texted him "please don't be mad at me..." and then snapchatted a picture of the pee stick. My first BFP back in December I basically just woke him up and shoved it in his face.

  • My husband is on night shift rotation. He had gotten off duty Saturday morning got in bed and fell asleep. It was about an hour later I got my BFP! I dove across the best laughing/crying flipping the lights on so he could see. It wasn't the big special announcement I always though I would do, but that positive test was special enough.

  • Aw some of these stories are making me tear up. I was in such shock I just walked into the living room and showed him the pee stick lol. I bought an I love my daddy onsie almost a year ago, but I ended up showing it to him already when we decided to do IVF

  • He came home to our 2.5 year old wearing this shirt. We laughed for a long time because he stopped on the way home to buy my favorite stout and cider to make snakebites with dinner. I guess I won't be having one of those for awhile!
  • I had a hunch that something was different this cycle and waited until the morning of 12dpo to test.  I took the test and in less than 30 seconds the second line appeared.  It took all I had not to open the bathroom door and scream the good news, but I held my tongue the entire day.  I went to the mall after work and picked up a sweet, yellow Baby Gap onesie and hat, card and Starbucks mug.  I carefully packaged the onesie and hat into the mug and placed it in the cup cupboard with the card next to it.  He normally puts the dishes away but was taking forever so I finally asked him if he could get me a glass of water.  He opened the cabinet, looked at me and asked if it was the 28th (our 7th 'dating' anniversary).  I told him 'No' and to look closer.  He pulled out the hat, gave a semi-confused look and said, "Wait... you're pregnant?  Really?!"  We'd been not trying, not preventing for 4 months.  Some tears, hugs and kisses followed. I'll never forget the look on his face!  He couldn't be more excited to be a dad--I still catch him re-reading the card from 'Baby S'.

  • I took a digital test while at home for lunch and was in such shock I took a picture and sent it to my best friend (I know, bad wife but I was dying to tell someone). I waited until he got home for work and met him in the kitchen. I said "You know how we are going to give away P's old baby clothes? Yeah, we'll be needing them" and showed him the picture. He asked me if it had been confirmed yet. He's special.
  • We decided to ttc and I got off the pill at the end of January. Honestly, I was starting to get some second thoughts was seriously considering going back on the pill after the first cycle. Our 3rd was conceived in the first cycle too. I thought while it wasn't impossible it was probably improbable that it would happen like that 2 times. (Previous fertility issues) When it is meant to be it is meant to be. Anyhow, I simply asked DH if November 5th was a good day for a baby. He is super excited.
  • Nothing exciting here..... we agreed to wait to test until this past Saturday even though that would have been the longest cycle I had ever had. I tested, digi said "Pregnant" damn near immediately. I ran to our bedroom, turned the light on blinding him and handed him the test. His reaction was priceless as he was half asleep and couldn't read it, let alone see anything as I turned our light on over our bed blinding him.  There was no way to surprise him with something sentimental, since we have been trying for over 2 years he is very aware of my cycle and we always set a date to test, so he knew I woke up and POAS right away.

Thanks for sharing your stories ladies.  Congrats to you all.

We were actually TTA (trying to avoid; work-related reasons) this cycle, so H didn't ask any questions about testing like he normally does. I decided to test with a cheapie first and when I saw a squinter, pulled out a FRER. Meanwhile, DD woke up early and H was changing her diaper. I walked in and said I had a shirt for her to wear today but she couldn't wear it outside the house. I pulled out the Big Sister shirt I bought back in August and laid it on the changing table. He was just telling me that he wasn't going to get her dressed when he actually read the shirt. His eyes got really big and I went and got the test to show him. He said later he was really annoyed because he needed to get to work and thought I was holding him up. He got over that pretty quickly!

  • Nothing very exciting. I just yelled for him to come into the bathroom to confirm I wasn't hallucinating the second line and he confirmed I wasn't crazy:)
  • I asked him if he had any vacation in November. When he said no I told him he should try to get some so he could help with the new baby. It only took him a minute to figure it out and he said "No way. I was sure it was never going to happen!" Thanks for the vote of confidence dude.

  • I tested in the morning before work. On my way home I stopped and got a 6 pack of beer. When I got home he asked me what the beer was for and I said "Your ganna need it!" And he said "Your pregnant!"! He started drinking right away!

  • Nothing too exciting here. I had taken a test while he wasn't at home. I had my own personal freak out moment and then went about my day. I usually send my husband dorky little text messages, and it's usually when he's laying next to me. (I do it just to make him laugh.) I had taken a picture of the BFP test and texted it to him. When he saw it was from me, he just rolled his eyes and sat down on the bed. When he opened it up (he was facing the other direction), he spun around and said "Are you serious??!!!" Needless to say, we're both excited, but I think it has yet to *really* sink in.

  • I'd shown him a Wondfo I *thought* had a line but he wasn't really convinced because it was so barely there. I kept saying "I think I'm crazy, I can't tell if my eyes are playing tricks on me!" He came home a few hours later with a FRER so I took it, saw two obvious lines and left it on the bathroom counter with a note that said "I'm not crazy!!" He was very happy.

My DH's birthday was on February 28th. That morning I took a pregnancy test hoping for a positive... and voila BFP!!! I wrapped up the pregnancy test and in the evening I gave it to him as his birthday gift. I hid my phone and pressed record so I got eveything on camera.. His reaction was absolutely priceless! As if he won a championship game! It was so cute :)

  • We had been trying for 7 months, since July. February 22 was our 11 year anniversary of being together, and I had meant to get him a small gift, but didn't find what I was looking for, so I just told him that I wanted to get him something. I tested on 2/23, but got a negative, and that was 2 days before AF was due, so I thought I wasn't pregnant. But it didn't start on 2/25. Then it didn't start on 2/26. I had one more CBE digital left at home, so I took it when I got home from work, expecting to see the ugly "NOT PREGNANT" yelling in my face again. But to my surprise, the "not" was missing! I quickly got to working on my big reveal, to have it ready before he got home from work.
When Ryan finally got home, I was all smiles, and had a gift bag waiting for him. Since I had meant to get him a gift for our anniversary, he thought it was just that. He took out the first piece of tissue paper, and under it was a Sugar Daddy candy. He loves them, and we give each other treats all the time, so he just said "Yum!" and thought nothing of it. Pulled out the next paper, under it was a box of Sugar Babies. I could tell by his face that no light had gone off yet. Pulled out the paper, under it was a onesie facing up that said "My Dad Rocks!". He started laughing hysterically, then looked at me and said "What?......What?.....What?.....Are you serious?....What?" I told him to keep going. Under that was another onesie that said "Mommy's Little Monster", and under that, the positive test. He was in as much shock as I was, but that quickly changed to excitement. This is our first, and we're anxiously awaiting our first appointment on 3/28.

  • I rescued our cat, Bella, from the middle of a highway when she was 6 weeks and just a pound. We didn't think she was going to make it (vet included). Needless to say, she is the most high maintenance being in our house. I take care of her primarily, but I have always teased H that when I got pregnant, it would be all him on scooper duty.

So, I found a card that had a cat with outstretched arms on the front. Inside it said "congratulations" and underneath I wrote "you'll be scooping my poop for the next nine months!" He cracked up and then got teary eyed. Might not be the most romantic reveal, but it was pretty funny.
  • I got my IUD out in January and this was our first cycle trying, but it was pretty clear I would ovulate while out of town for a conference so neither of us thought this would be it.  We DTD every other day starting at CD10, then ED for the week leading up to the conference, but I O'd two days after leaving.
All that to say, we'd been joking about the improbability of me being KU, and DH had been looking forward to trying some more in the upcoming months.  He knew I'd been testing because my period was late, but I wasn't seeing anything on the Wondfo's.  At 14 dpo, I used a FRER with FMU and got a clear positive.  I woke him up saying, "Looks like you have super sperm!"

Ha!  I'd actually been trying to think of a way to use a "big sister" shirt, but I didn't end up ordering one because I knew DH would be annoyed if I suggested he change her shirt twice.  I'm sure he would have gotten over it, but the man hates to put clothes on DD (to be fair, she hates to change her clothes, too).
