We got a more expensive crib than I thought we would, but my husband is super picky about furniture, and I wanted him to be happy with what we decided. My parents ended up paying for it so it wasn't that big of deal. I just hope it lasts till they are 18
I also went with the Graco Lauren. I got it off Amazon for $149 and free shipping with prime. I saw it in BRU and it was pretty study as I stood there and shook it.
We were going to get a crib from IKEA and be done. But my grandma kyboshed that idea.
We went middle of the road and registered for a Baby Cache crib from BRU in white. I think it is $400. We are re-using an IKEA Hemnes dresser I had in college. Both are white, so the colors should match fine.
As far as kids using the rail as a chew toy, it's super easy to make a guard using some short pieces of ribbon and a piece of fabric. I think I remember seeing some instructions on Pinterest.

thanks for all the feedback! i got a lot of good perspectives from you ladies! DH and I really love the look of this crib
it's about $200 by Storkcraft .. unfortunately i can't find a matching changer as i think this is an older model.. i have to do some research but i feel like as long as it's aesthetically pleasing to us and of course has good safety ratings (which i agree with a PP that whether it's 100$ or $500 it has to pass the same restrictions) we might be going with this one. We are using a dresser i already have.. but not sure if it will go together..
but i'm also thinking white is white lol and it should all work.. i'm sure it will be easy enough to find a coordinating changer
My MIL bought us a beautiful, expensive convertible crib, that goes from crib to toddler bed to an actual double bed. We used it for two and a half years and moved ds in to a twin bed. I was hoping to get pregnant with #2 much sooner and so wanted to leave it as crib in case, but did not get pregnant as soon as I hoped. Glad we did not convert it since we will use it for baby girl and eventually give it to ds as a double bed in a few years. So, really we will get a life time of use, but still have to buy the mattresses, a new crib mattress for baby girl and a double mattress for the future conversion. It is a very solid bed and I think worth it, but we could not have afforded it. I think it was around $800.
We got the Babyletto Mercer crib in white from Amazon during the spend 250, get 50 credit sale. It ended up being a really good deal with Prime free shipping. I thought it looked fairly modern and had clean lines, which I like.
The crib has a storage drawer underneath and came with a toddler kit (a lot of companies make you buy these separately).
Baby Bargains gave this crib good ratings, but they did mention that the wood is fairly soft, so I won't be surprised if it does nick up quickly.
The crib we picked out is $400 from Buy Buy Baby and I have a $100 off coupon. My mom is buying the crib for us and I was torn between this one and a $200 one (coupon wouldn't be usable). My mom wanted to go with the more expensive one that I liked better, so I wasn't gonna argue.

I am being super cheap this time around and skipping the crib for a while. We are getting a co-sleeper and for downstairs one of those fancy playpens. I didn't even use a crib for the first few months. But when I do get one if I can't find one under 100 then we are going to IKEA.
I see some really pretty ones but they cost so much! Even our secondhand market is not really cheap.

I was looking at this crib, too! Super cute together, imo.

We got a $300+ crib for our first DS and it converts to a full size bed which we will be changing it into soon. For this baby we bought the Jenny Lind crib for target
Not all kids chew up cribs, just something to keep in mind.
We were probably going to to Wal Mart or Ikea the first time around, because I'm cheap. I never had any interest in a convertible crib, though, and in the end my dad insisted on making us a crib instead. And actually... I think he probably spent about $300-400 on the wood. Worth it though, it'll be in the family for years and years to come.
I got mine as a gift, but know it wasn't even more than $200. With my first, I was so excited to get a covetable that would stay with the child their whole life, but after my DS (almost 3) got done teething and chewing on the Crib rails, I'm so glad he won't have those reminders for his entire life!
Our crib was around $350 at babiesrus. My mom insisted we get something nicer that would hold up, (in her mind, more $$$). She bought the crib and dresser as a gift for us. We used it as a crib until DS started to climb out and had to put the daybed rails on it. He hated it like that for some reason, so we moved him to a twin and does better in there. It depends on the kid, DS slept well in there until we changed it on him.
I posted this somewhere else on here but I'll post again... I got a BRAND NEW Bonavita crib for over half off through a baby store on eBay. It was originally $500 and I got it for $225. I had this brand for my daughter and loved it but she's using it as a full size bed now. Just a thought to look on ebay. I always find amazing deals on there!!!! ...also luckily my Mom was the best and got the furniture as gifts for us.
Our crib for DS is the Ikea Sundvik crib that was $119. It's been great and looks great. It will also convert to a toddler bed. I'm glad we didn't get anything expensive so that I felt like I had to kick DS out of his bed. Instead, we are getting two more Ikea cribs.
We have the Graco Lauren crib, as well. I had no intentions of converting to a full size because we plan on having the boys share a room so I knew I wasn't looking for something to last each kid 18+ years. We moved DS to a twin bed at 2 1/2. I've got no complaints. So far both crib and mattress have held up really well.
Graco Lauren here. Used it as a toddler bed too but we got a twin bed for DD. I like being able to lay in the bed with her now to get her to sleep. We will be using the crib for DS. I'd rather spend more money on their "big kid" room as they will be using that furniture for much longer. We did end up buying a $500 dresser that I love and I do not regret. It was used as a changing table for DD and we will use it for DS as well.
If you have Kohls charge card check out their website for cribs. I got the Babyletto Hudson, normally $379 for essentially $200 out of pocket. The code March30 will get you 30% off, then 6% cash back thru ebates, plus I got $50 in Kohls cash. If you are interested in it in gray it is only $279 to start, so a super good deal there. They have lots of other brands like Graco and Stork as well. Oh and shipping is free!
