Going off the tattoo thing- In general i dont mind them (i have one) but I think the ones that pay tribute to a dead relative or friend that are huge and impossible not to notice are tacky. Perhaps its because I'm not the type to literally wear my most personal of emotions on my sleeve, but to me it's an attention seeking move.

I will not give money to a person on the street, but I donate to churches/Salvation Army. If I can sit and work for 9 hours a day they can do that too.
I'll admit to having these thoughts but the reality is a looooot more complex than that.   Are they out there because of mental issues? Disabled? Abused at home and got kicked out?

I agree that *some* street people could be working but they choose not to.  I live in Portland and work downtown, which is teeming with homeless people already, and the population seems to double in the summer time, since the crusty street kids from wherever roll through town and hang out for a few months.  Those kids annoy the shit out of me, especially as they can be aggressive.   I generally don't give anyone on the street money, but donate when I can to a shelter.
  • My UO for the day: I have a friend who has a child that I really don't like. I know lots of people don't enjoy any kids other than their own (myself included) but this has now graduated to a true angry dislike for this child. I am kind of ashamed at myself that as a 30-something woman I can feel this way about an 8year old. She is so, so, so obnoxious and annoying though. The way she speaks to adults is shocking to me. I wish she would move away. Sigh
I feel you! I LOVE children. I have worked as a nanny for years and volunteer with kids anywhere I can but I refuse to babysit for my cousins. They are spoiled brats and are just down right mean. One gave my DH a black eye when we watched them for a weekend. I outright dread family get togethers with them and I refuse to babysit for them and tell my friends not to watch them as well.

Open marriages make my skin crawl. I'm attending a wedding soon for a couple who is unabashedly non-monogamous and doesn't plan to have children. To me, marriage is between two people, not two people plus random sex partners, and especially does not involve one spouse getting a boyfriend or girlfriend on the side. It's hard to get excited for this couple's wedding.

I don't understand this either. Tax benefits? It's bullshit.

  • I shave for myself, no one else. I HATE being hairy. My water broke with my first and my dr told me to take my time coming and go take a shower if I wanted to. I did, and I shaved, and it was the best ever because I wasn't all itchy from hair OR dealing with messy bloody hair post partum.
Me too - DH doesn't really care, but I do. I would imagine with shaving though that you'd be growing hair back right as you're still healing and that would be irritating - was it not?
  • A little late but @Relish1025 I love a woman who researches charities ;).

    - I want a wax before delivery just so after-care is easier. I don't care what the nurse thinks about my vulva, but I feel like with all the blood, stitches, etc that you're looking at postpartum, being bald down there would make for a much easier clean up, and a wax would ensure you're not having irritating grow back too soon.

Yes to this!!! The thought of having blood crusted pubic hair tangled together makes me want to hurl.

    The period from hell.

The hair growing back was a zero on the uncomfortable scale with everything else that was going on down there. Never even felt it.
  • I waxed before my CS with DD at the advice of my OB, and, even though it hurt way worse than waxing when not pregnant, I was SO glad I did. The nurses will shave you for a CS anyway and I really didn't want a half-ass shave job. I plan on waxing closer to my EDD, too, in case of VBAC, because, as others have said, I think it will make keeping everything clean much easier!

Interesting.  I shaved really close too and nurses did not shave me for my c-section. My incision is right where the hair starts.

Are we going to compare bush sizes now?
    Dammit, I haven't had one for over a decade. I don't remember!

Now I feel the need to go inspect where mine is, but I can't even see it with the belly so that'll have to wait until I'm home:-)

  • I get waxing done non-pregnant and the pain is fine, but does it hurt enormously more when you're hugely pregnant? I have just never considered it before, but it sounds like a good idea with all the PP stuff going on... but with the swelling and pressure going on down there it sounds bloody painful!
I thought the pain during was pretty much the same as non-pregnant, but afterwards hurts a little more. My vag is just a little tender for about a day, which makes me not want a wax right before delivery. A few days before would be ideal if I could predict something like that :) I imagine it could be a bit more painful if you haven't gone in awhile though since they'll have to do a lot more.

Speaking of hating movies...I hated Gravity. I have never ever wanted a movie to end so quickly before. So much flailing around and grabbing on to things. The entire movie was Sandra Bullock saying, "no no no no no no!" and "Ahhhhhhh" Why did everyone I talk to recommend it?

I didn't see this movie because this is what i got from the previews. Thank you for confirming what i thought about it.

  • I've never been drug tested and I work for the state. Also, I work with elderly welfare recipients. Drug testing them seems like a serious waste of resources

  • Not only did I have to take a drug test for my employment, but they CUT MY HAIR to test it - big up step from the pee test. Ludicrous. I work in an office - it's not like I operate heavy machinery or anything!
