We were in the movies a few months back & the guy went to sit in his seat (like an office desk chair) & fell out. As he was rolling around on the ground, I could see his gun & was NOT happy that there was an armed man sitting 3 seats down from me.
rockyrollgirl who have guns for fun, but have no illusions about the gun actually protecting them in 99.99% of situations.
Well, plus we keep them locked up in case someone does break-in and steals them. That happened to my neighbor last year.
This is why I am pro gun-reform. More guns do not equal more safety. It just makes it more easily to get into the wrong hands.
It happens a lot. I know another person who left a loaded handgun in his work truck (ugh) and forgot to lock it. Woke up and it was gone. Checked the security camera footage and it was a teenager. It was on the news, he said he would give a reward for the gun...I do not believe they ever found the kid or the gun. I will have to get an update from my husband on that later.
I shouldn't have posted because i don't have all day to keep up with it. I will post final.
I get these view points. Will I personally seek out a shooter. Heck no. I'm not trained to do so and wouldn't go looking. If someone was directly in front of me and within eye sight, then yes I would defend. Maybe some situations would turn out differently.
Children do get hurt by guns, even children raised around them do. Doesn't matter the training they've had, they all are still curious. That is why if you choose to own it should be done safely. And it should be constantly monitored.
I choose to carry. Mostly to protect my person. Not to protect the world. I've had more than one occurrence that I've been thankful I had my gun. Can I protect the world? No. Would I if I could help in a situation without endangering myself further? Yes. But mostly I know I'm safe.
It's not for everyone and I get that. I choose to have myself protected. My home protected. And guns are safe when properly used, cared for, and proper training.
@LoisLayne23 Thanks for the hugs. I'm so sorry for your SIL. I have cousins that were at Columbine during the shooting. They still have nightmares and flashbacks. I guess you could say I've been affected by two horrific mass shootings. I've never been at the site of one, but people that I know and love have been.
I'm not against people owning guns. I was a junior champion competitive shooter in high school. I don't own any guns now, but it is not because I'm anti gun. I am simply exercising my right to not have guns. I am completely against people like the PP who say hurtful, stupid things to justify their need to carry a gun. That level self-importance, over confidence, and the gun-ho attitude is one of the many things that makes guns dangerous and gets people killed.

I noticed you didn't directly respond to me, and barely addressed the hurtful shit you said. Just making an observation. I hope you are never in the situation where you need to use your gun. I hope you or your family never has to look back and say "what if". I wish you luck and happiness in your life, but I'm happy you're not a part of mine.

Here's one to change the subject. I hate St. Patricks Day. I don't celebrate it. I don't drink (even when not pregnant), I don't really like corned beef and cabbage, and I'm not Irish. I think it's just an excuse for people to get stupid drunk and party.
I went to an "Irish Fest" once, my city does a lot of those types of things. In all seriousness I looked around and said, "well, what's so Irish about this? It's just a bunch of people drinking." Ha ha, then I realized what I said.
Our "Italian Fest" is just a bunch of food vendors. Really good food, though. All the Italian restaurants come out.
Okay, I guess I need an UO now...how about...I'm enjoying being pregnant? I'm no longer sick, not big and uncomfortable, I've starting feeling baby move. This is the part I love!

You have to understand, Lois and I went through the whole 1D on TB backlash, around the time of South Beach and a lot of people threw the word "pedophile" around. "You guys find kids attractive? What is wrong with you???"
It's not even remotely accurate to use that word (or the words kids) in this situation.
I cant stand One Direction (SorryNotSorry!)...but I agree with your opinion here. Even if they were 16...you're not saying you want to snatch them up in an alley and sodomize them. Its more like a crush and admiration of their musical talents. Its not a big deal and people need to chill out. There is a HUGE difference between the way a pedophile grooms and thinks of their victims and some women who think a boy band is the best shit since Frito pie.
Yes, there is a difference but I just think it's gross to talk about young boys (when they were under 18 it was wrong) in a lustful manner. Were lustful words said on here? No, but there is a crap ton of it on other boards (chit chat).

We have guns. Multiple guns and of many different types/styles. And we both carry handguns. We don't plan on changing much once LO is here.
My parents used to carry guns in their cars....until they realized that they kids playing hide & seek one day thought their cars would be a good place to hide.
My UO....I just can't justify carrying/owning a gun. I don't really believe statistically that you'd ever benefit from having one. The odds that you'd even need & use it (successfully) are pretty darn slim & guns are one of the leading causes of child injury & death. I don't get people that freak out about every single pregnacy-related, SIDS, crib bumper, walker, possible threat or danger yet still have guns around.
We have guns and I agree. DH is law enforcement so guns are a part of our lives and I'm well trained on how to load, unload, clean, and fire a handgun, but guns only escalate situations (it's been proven).
Agreed. I'm in the Army and I love guns.. But I think that these situations that everyone keeps insinuating could have been prevented if more people carried (like CO and Sandy Hook) are BS. People aren't thinking about the reprecussions for the person that actually pulls that trigger. I bet you that there was so much chaos and confusion in that dark theater that first of all, someone wouldn't know even where to shoot safely to disable the shooter, and second, I'm willing to be that person isn't going to just "react" the way that people are imagining they are. There are legal reprecussions they are going to think about, "if I do this I'm taking another person's life".. Trust me, there's a lot that goes into squeezing that trigger.
Also- If George Zimmerman and Michael Dunn hadn't had guns, do you really think those teenagers would be dead? As @LoisLayn23 said, guns escalate fights.

So do you wear orange then?!
I do. DH is British. We wear orange as a a joke.
***********
This is one of the most ignorant, distasteful things I've read in ages. And the fact that your husband is British and should know better makes it all the worse. St. Patrick's Day is a celebration of Ireland's culture, not an anti-English one, so why you think it's funny to bring Northern politics into it is beyond me. I would feel the exact same if someone were celebrating the IRA. Haha - people living in fear, innocent people dying, a city with a freaking wall separating people. That does sound hilarious!
I am guessing you don't play Cards Against Humanity (a really fun game filled with tasteless jokes). I know it is an insensitive joke. DH grew up in the UK during the bombings. He lived the "people living in fear, innocent people dying" experience first hand. He had to evacuate buildings because of bomb threats. So you don't need to lecture me on the history and violence of the IRA.
I don't care if you think it's an act of ignorance (it's not, I'm fully aware of the implications). I fully accept that it's distasteful. My point is that most Americans won't pick up on it, and it's not meant to be a political statement. It's just a joke. I fully admit that I have a twisted sense of humor. I don't hate Irish culture, I just hate the holiday.

For instance, I got drunk twice yesterday and didn't vomit at all. ::pats self on back::

I'm so effing sick of reading the "gun debate" on here at a minimum 3x a week. I'm pretty sure it's safe to say we all know each others stance on this at this point. I'm over it, lets talk about something different... Mostly because I've noticed with each week it goes by, people are getting shittier and shittier about it to each other, I'm all for debate, but it seems to me it's starting to get really redundant and not very civil when it comes to this topic.
ETA: I know this comes off as a little white knight-ey. I just really am sick of the debate on this subject, and it's definitely unpopular on here to bitch about a topic instead of just ignoring that, and I get it. But that's what the UO thread is for, unpopular shit
I hated babysitting as a teen. Now I work with pre-k and I'm miserable. It's glorified babysitting. I'm "overqualified" for customer service jobs, but I have no experience working with young adults, so I can't get the kind of job I would love and I'm basically stuck in my own private work hell. I'm glad for the money and all, but it just bums me out a lot.
I can't talk about the gun issue anymore because there's clearly going to be no changing of opinions on either side..so, onto my next UO.
I can't touch raw meat and I only eat certain meat. I have H cut up the raw meat and marinade it. It's my way of separating myself from it all and then just consuming what I'm trying to forget is meat once it's prepared.
I'm the same way. When I lived alone I had a box of latex gloves that I wore when I had to handle raw meat. Now DH does all of that, if I have to do the cooking, I always use tongs or something between me and the meat. DH thinks it's hilarious.
The idea of taking my kids to Disney World just seems like a total nightmare to me, and I don't understand why people love it so much. If my kids want to go, we will probably try to make it happen, but it will take a lot of effort for me to enjoy it!

There are gun debates 3x/week?
Easily, at this point... maybe it's better put to say days at a time? Sometimes on threads about a totally different topic that it creeps in. On a thread like this (where at least it's in line with the conversation) it's less annoying, but still repetitive at this point.

That was hardly a lecture, though if you truly knew the story you would know that the violence went/goes both ways. It's not IRA violence; those people who wave the orange that you think is so funny are plenty guilty of it too. Make your "non-political" joke in a pub in Northern Ireland and see how far it gets you.
Really, if this is the type of humor that gets you going, then good for you. In my opinion it's beyond the pale.
Good thing I'm making my non-political joke in the USA and not in Northern Ireland. I get you're offended by my humor, but it really is just a joke. I'm guessing you have a personal link to those events. I'm sorry if I offended you, but I stand by my affirmation that Americans are woefully ignorant of the significance of the color orange when worn on St. Patricks day. It's not done to be hurtful, but more as a protest against this "holiday". I would like to add that one of my close friends is from Northern Ireland and thinks it's hilarious. She grew up in a village outside of Belfast. She and DH talk about their experiences growing up with the violence often. I guess we are just bad people who think the best way to heal is to laugh.
I'm all for celebrating one's heritage, but the fact remains that people (some who are Irish, some are not) hijack St. Patricks day and use it as an excuse to drink excessively and act like vile specimens of humanity.

I think we're past this now since everybody who has had the NT scan or integrated screening has done so, but the statement "I won't get the screening because I'll love my baby no matter what" or "I'm getting the screening but I'll love my baby no matter what" is super annoying. I don't understand why people feel the need to attach the disclaimer.
I was reading the blog of a friend from college who just had a baby with DS, and she was apparently told by some people (not sure if family members or what) that doing the follow-up bloodwork for the NT scan was "un-Christian," I guess because they thought it meant she would abort the baby if it came back positive? It was one of the most ridiculous things I've ever heard.

I thought the US didn't recognize dual citizenship here?
My Canadian friend has dual citizenship with here and canada but the US doesn't recognize it, only Canada does. If you are American, you are only American because 'MERICA.
The US recognizes dual citizenship, but what citizenship you are at any given moment depends on where you are. If your friend is in the US then her American citizenship is the "primary" citizenship so she is considered American. When she is in Canada, her Canadian citizenship is the primary and they would recognize her as Canadian. In other countries, it would depend on which passport she is traveling under.
That said, there are a few countries that the US will not allow you to have dual citizenship. It has to do with the relationship the country has with the US, but usually those countries wouldn't allow dual citizenship with the US anyway. But Canada and Ireland are fine. Since DH is a Natural born Canadian citizen and I am a natural born American, LO will have citizenship with both US and Canada and both governments are cool with it.

My UO: I'm about 93.7% sure that I will have to take a major dump soon and have no qualms about going at work. But it bothers me when others do it at work and I have to go in there after them. I justify my hypocrisy by walking out of my way to the farther away bathroom that people rarely use, just to go #2 away from other people.
This reminds me of the guys at work. We have a mens room and a womens room. Just one toilet and a sink, no stalls. We also have a restroom out back in the shop but it is GROSS. Anyways, the salesmen at work will only take dumps in the womens bathroom. It is awful. It also never fails that when I just need to pee one of them is in there blowing it up. They will pee in the mens but not take dumps.
My uo I judge people more for smoking cigarettes then I do for smoking pot. My dh smokes weed on a semi regular basis as long as he isn't doing it in the house and its not affecting his job or family tome I don't care. The second I see him bumming a cigarette from a friend it makes my blood boil. To me cigarette smoking makes me think anyone who does it smells like a dirty old ash tray.
This exactly. My hubs also likes his semi-regular weed, which I'm OK with for the reasons you mention above, but it drives me insane when he bums cigarettes.
- Hubby also handles the meat, I prefer to not do raw meat either. Fish is fine but meat, eh. He always does a better job cooking it than me so all is good.
- Not a 1D fan but don't see any problem with fan girls of any age. Liking a band doesn't make you a pedophile.
- HOW CAN YOU NOT LOVE THE BEATLES AND ZEPPELIN???
- Guns- at the risk of beating SJP: We also own guns for recreation- my hubby's thing, I am neutral on the topic on gun ownership. I am WAY in support of better/ tougher gun laws though, as is hubs. We live in a neighborhood with a high amount of gang related shootings and rational gun control laws would go a long ways in curbing that particular kind of violence.
My UO: Wearing pants so baggy that the are around your thighs, or wherever, makes you look unintelligent. I hate that I judge people based on clothing choices, but this one really bothers me. I find it trashy and kinda nasty, I really don't need to see what underwear your wearing.

My maiden name is SUPER irish (but my grandpa was adopted so who knows what we are) and my dad's birthday is on 3/17 so, every year without fail, we both hear SO HOW DRUNK ARE YOU GUNNA GET?!?!?!
No thanks.
My married name is very Irish, and H's name is Patrick and he was born on St. Patty's (but he was adopted and possibly Jewish according to his mother, so he sure doesn't look it).
We live in Wisconsin and totally take part in the drunken debauchery that is St. Patty's. I love the holiday, even if it is hijacked by drunks (usually I'm one of em -- I've got a shamrock tattoo to prove it)!

::::::mind blown::::::: and I thought I was really on top of all those...
After having the barrel of a gun against my temple, I have really become a knife person.
I'm not allowed to carry a gun with me on duty, but I'm allowed to carry a knife. And I have a pretty great knife collection going.
I didn't want to say anything, but I have been in a similar situation (not touching me, but I've found myself looking closely down the barrel of somebody else's handgun) and I'm pretty sure if I had been carrying a gun, the situation would have escalated and ended differently than it did.
Probably the only reason I didn't fight the guy was because I had my neice with me. just tossed him my wallet, and ran the other way as fast as possible
My UO is that I hate it when people use Lent as their excuse for either going on a diet or giving up something that they shouldn't be doing in the first place (giving up soda, fast food, cursing). If you want to better your life, then great, but don't use religion as your excuse and then expect me to listen to you whine for the next 40 days. Also, I don't celebrate Lent, but my understanding is that it's supposed to be a sacrifice, giving up something meaningful, not simply stopping something that you shouldn't be doing anyway.
ALLLLLLLL of this!!!
I am Catholic. Not a perfect one by any means, but I have an issue with adults talkling about what they are "giving up for lent". That's not what its about at all and that tradition is meant for kids under the age of 14.
People tend to partake in parts of religion that are convenient and easy for them, and play along for traditions sake.
I have a serious problem with that. Its fine if you want to abstain from whatever but that shouldn't be the ONLY aspect you participate in.
Probably the only reason I didn't fight the guy was because I had my neice with me. just tossed him my wallet, and ran the other way as fast as possible
I just literally LOL'd at your gif. It is funny, but I don't understand why I think it is as funny that I think it is(if that makes sense). Every time I see it I laugh out loud, no matter where I am at.

I feel very, very badly for the woman who tried to drive her kids into the ocean recently. Don't get me wrong, I almost cried thinking about the kids involved, but I can't stop thinking about the mother.
I had terrible PPA/PPD after my first (I've battled depression since I was young) and the first two months of his life were the darkest times I've ever faced. I never hurt him, never ever, but there were moments when it was just me and him home alone and I pictured shaking him or taking him somewhere and just leaving him. Then my mind instantly turned to guilt and how awful of a person I must have been to even be thinking about those things. It was a daily battle going on in my brain, with this poor little tiny guy stuck in the middle. I finally admitted I had a problem and spoke to my doctor, I just couldn't do that to my son anymore. It was one thing to deal with it my whole life when it was just me, but it wasn't anymore.
So yeah, I feel terribly for that woman and I really, really hope she gets the help she needs.
Oh wow. I saw a glimpse of that the other day, but did not catch the story. I assumed it was some type of accident.

and "Go to your perspective platoons" instead of respective platoons.

Probably the only reason I didn't fight the guy was because I had my neice with me. just tossed him my wallet, and ran the other way as fast as possible
