Weight gain and getting uncomfortable

I'm a FTM and have gained 20 lbs at 31.5 weeks. I just started getting uncomfortable this week (back pain esp in tailbone, belly feels like it's really stretching) and I am seriously beginning to wonder how I'll make it to the end. Are any of you feeling the same way? Any STMs or later w advice on this? I am a small woman with a short torso and just wondering how this baby is going to double in size and continue to grow for several more weeks!

Re: Weight gain and getting uncomfortable

  • I gained like 26 pounds by 30 weeks, and I have been feeling like a round rolly polly with a stretched belly since that visit to the MW.  The majority of my pain comes from right under my ribs on the right side that stretches to my back.  I feel like the baby is pushing outward from that point.  And the upper portion of my uterus is rock solid and stretching me to my limits.  I have about 6 more weeks of work and am thinking the same.  Can I make it till then?  How uncomfortable will I be?  All I can do now is take deep breathes sit on my birth ball and hope my boss takes pity on me.

  • I'm around the same as you (31+2) and have been feeling the same. I've put on around 15lbs, but I'm short so it feels like a lot. I keep looking at my belly and thinking "how can you get any bigger?!"
I find I feel more uncomfortable as the day goes on. By the evening it hurts to get off the sofa. I find that a warm bath helps with the back pain. I don't know how in gonna get through the next 5.5wks at work!

  • FTM, I'll be 29w tomorrow and have gained about 25 pounds and I have definitely noticed the tailbone pain in the last week. It's so strange! It's not the actual bone, but the area around it, I think. It's hard to explain but comes after sitting in one position for a while. And I don't know how to make it feel better or prevent it.

My belly feels terrible if I eat too much, like a balloon that's been blown up too much and could pop at any second.

  • 31 weeks and have gained 16 pounds. I'm fairly tall but man I need more space in there. Little mans head likes to poke into my ribs most of the day:/ 9 more weeks of being uncomfortable and it'll all be worth it!

  • I'm 28 weeks and have gained 20-25lbs. This is the first week that I've truly felt uncomfortable. As in I feel like LO is too big for my belly.

OP, for the back pain, I'd recommend doing some hamstring stretches. I did last night and as painful as it was (I could feel them pulling on my low back) it helped a ton. Granted, stretching isn't easy with a PG belly, but it's worth a shot.

  • Glad I'm not alone... I'm only 5'0 tall and DH was a large baby @ 9 lbs. my baby has measured ahead at the last few scans... God help me if I have a 9 pounder! :/
  • I had my appt today and at 31 wks I'm up 18 lbs. The doctor said I was measuring on schedule, but a little on the smaller side. This sounds crazy to me because I feel enormous. At times after I eat, I literally feel like I'm going to explode. It's the most uncomfortable feeling and part of me is scared to think that it's only going to get much bigger. I feel like my skin is already stretched to its furthest limit and it's only going to take one big meal for the baby to come out exploding from my belly.

Well, I guess I'll be the fat one...30 weeks, and I've gained more like 35 lbs and am only 5'1". I've been uncomfortable for weeks, and I know from experience it only gets worse. I can't wait to have my body back to myself!

@JmeJme, we can be fatties together! 28 weeks today and I'm up 35lbs, despite still working out 3-4 days a week. I'm 5'4". Oh well, I just can't stress about this anymore.

This week, I've started feeling uncomfortable and like my stomach is stretching out more every day. DS must've gone through a growth spurt this week. Ouch!

  • I am absolutely miserable starting this week. I am 29 weeks and up 26 lbs. I can't believe I have to make it until May.
  • I haven't gained much but I feel huge. I'm 30 weeks and on my pregnancy phone app it said something similar, something about the baby doubling in weight from here to the end. It made my eyes bug out a bit :P I already feel like my uterus is being poked by my ribs! It's like a balloon being poked by scissors. I feel like I'm going to pop!

  • Last night I thought my belly was going to rip open. It definitely felt stretched to the max and LO was rolling around. Quite uncomfortable.

  • I'm 30 weeks on Thursday and I'm pretty sure I've gained 30lbs already. I'm 5'6" and started out underweight so I guess it's not that big of a deal but it seems like a lot, considering I gained 35 with my first. It'll probably be more like 40ish this time around :/

I am 29 weeks and a FTM and while i havent gained that much due to bad ms in the beginning, id swear it was twice as much! what makes it worse I assume is that I am carrying it all in my belly, high, and straight out so I can't eat very much- I am back to being grossed out by most food, having a crappy appetite, and when I do want food and eat instantly feeling like I must have hoovered an entire chinese buffet rather than the snack size meal and get sick to my stomach and my belly feels like it may explode. And she is supposed to TRIPLE in size!! she was in the 75% for weight at my last MFM 3 weeks ago and I suspect she is going to be a long limbed lady- but right now all those limbs and her head are smashed into my stomach reducing it to the size of kidney bean. But like a PP said...then I feel her move and I get all mushy and just can't wait to hold her and snuggle her :) It's all a part of the process is what I assume...except for SSs but that I am not
Eta: and all that is not recent. Pregnancy is uncomfortable. I'm growing a human in me and don't expect it to be a party though I am very excited about the end result!

  • No numbers to share here, but yes, I am starting to get uncomfortable. My belly feels tight and sometimes it feels like it's going to rip open and I have this ongoing paranoia that the "connective tissue" where my muscles have separated is going to give way.

  • I'll join the fatty club - up 30-31lbs at 29 weeks.  I gained 55lbs with DD (I'm 5'8").  I've been uncomfortable for a while now.

OP - your body will amaze you at what it can do to accommodate a baby!  I look back at my last  belly pic with DD at 39 weeks and can't believe I was as big as I was.

  • 30 weeks- 24 pounds (hell no I won't round up). I'm pretty good during the morning (save for the pressure that has come since this precious bundle of bricks wedged himself head down), but come late afternoon, I simply cannot breathe. Arg.
  • Not here to share my weight, but I'm surprised you're just now feeling uncomfortable. I've been feeling that stretching, been carrying a backpack on my back all day, kind of feeling since about 20 weeks. Standing on my feet for even a short period of time makes my back hurt (but I never expected anything less with my 80 year old spine). Sorry that's the perks of pregnancy. Try stretching your back and stretching your body out when your just watching tv. Laying on my side always tends to help me

    It's a BOY

  • I am also on the high end for weight gain and I am only 5' 2". I refuse to weigh myself at home but at last appointment at about 27 weeks I was up 30lbs. I feel crappy about it but I try to eat decently and I work a really active job where I am walking and lifting things all day. I know my sister gained 50 with her first and my Mom 45 though and I have a similar body type, so if it happens it happens. Needless to say, yes I am uncomfortable, I get winded ridiculously easily and my back hurts a lot at work. But I know it is only going to get worse, we are in third tri now, belly still has a ways to go!
  • Uncomfortable is just a constant at this point. I mean, it has been so long now since I have been comfortable and not in pain, I don't think I will know what to do after pregnancy is over.

I'm sorry pregnancy is so uncomfortable for you though....I'm sure you will make it through the last 10 weeks like a champ

Wait, so you were hoping to find a thread where the rest of us ladies talk about how much we've gained (or haven't gained for some)? And because you feel bad about your own weight?

Please feel free to flame but this is pissing me off. I don't see what gaining weight has to do with being uncomfortable at this point. I've struggled all along to gain weight and I haven't been able to get above 7 lbs, and I've apparently lost that and been accused of 'starving myself' when I'm eating constantly. Thankfully, LO is growing as she should be.

I'm uncomfortable as shit as are 99% of the women on this board.
Andplusalso, this so much x a million. There is a large amount of "foreign" fluid, a body snatcher, and an organ that's multiplied in size to house both. Nothing is "comfortable" about this situation.
    Foreign fluid for the win!
  • I was waiting for the weight police to weigh in. Yes, every pregnancy is different, but I have noticed that the last 15 of the 30 I have gained so far has happened in the past months or so, which has significantly ramped up the uncomfortable and painful part of pregnancy. First trimester torture of migraines and ass morning sickness spared me from THAT part of pain.....
