as accurate as ultrasounds can be at determining growth as pregnancies progress I would imagine. Why wouldn't they be just because they're more frequent?
You were getting growth scans every 4 weeks and now 2? Or am I misunderstanding? I haven't had any scans since my a/s at 20 weeks. I'll only have one more scan around 34 weeks to check sizing.
The further along you get, the less accurate the scans get. It also depends on the equipment used. A Level 1 u/s is less accurate than a Level 2. Towards the end, your measurements could vary as much as 1-2lbs.
FWIW, I had growth scans with DD2 every two weeks up until the day before delivery with my MFM. The day before I gave birth I was told she weighed 4lbs, she was born the next day at 6lbs, 6oz.
My office does another a/s at 30 weeks to check on everything so we have that on Thursday. I'm also under the impression that I will be getting frequent scans because of the GD (at least that's what the NP made it sound like at my last appointment). Either way, I'm not complaining about seeing LO more frequently

This. I'm confused as to why you are getting growth scans so often.
I have growth scans every month/4 weeks for this pregnancy. Last pregnancy, I had them every 4 weeks then bumped to every 2 weeks once I was hospitalized. The doctors don't really like doing them more frequently than every 4 weeks because it isn't as accurate in catching a drop off. I had them bumped due to more complications than just IUGR.
I haven't had a scan since 20 wks and won't get another until 35! I just get fundal height measurements... You ladies who get to see LO more often are lucky! :-)

I had one today but only because I'm AMA and am measuring at 34weeks fundal height when I'm 30weeks and 6days. My doctor just wanted to see if LO's growth was on track. Which it is he is just over 3lbs it's just me who is huge.

Um, not really. I have to go in weekly for BPP ultrasounds and growth ultrasounds every 4 weeks due to being high risk. I would prefer to be low risk and not have to go in so frequently. On Thursday I have my monthly growth ultrasound and will find out if baby has dropped in size again for the second consecutive month. That will tell me if I will have to start preparing for another pre-term baby. Lucky is not the word I would use.
Yeah, I know I sure want to be high risk so I can get more ultrasounds. Sarcasm Font Used.

I go every 4 weeks because I have a fibroid that needs to be monitored for growth, at first I was pleased at the thought Id get to see baby more, but I have a $60 copay everytime I get one, in addition to my dr visit copau and since fibroid hasn't grown at all it is starting to feel like an unnecessary cost

I'm high risk and they are monitoring her for iugr.

I just always heard of them being 4 weeks. So I wasn't sure.

3 of mine were with my RE because I had to undergo fertility treatments to get pregnant. Another one was because my Crohn's disease was potentially flaring. These things don't make me lucky.

Yes, I'm so so lucky I get to see my baby so often and stress about if she's growing properly and will have to stay in the NICU or develop other complications. Thanks for the perspective.

Seriously. I'm so lucky to be high risk and be in and out of L&D all the time and have to deliver my daughter early. I guess when I get told tomorrow that I'm on bedrest I should feel lucky, because OMG, at least I'm off my feet!
Getting to lay around all day and extra u/s, I'm totes jealous!

I have had around 12 ultrasounds so far thanks to monitoring for a giant cyst, monitoring for a congenital heart defect, and my awesome high risk status thanks to hypertension and possible pre-e! And now I failed my one hour and might have the diabeetus... yup, feeling majorly lucky right now!!
I'm going in every four weeks too, but just to PIAC and have fundal height measured. I had a scan at 12W, 20W, and I'll get one extra at 32W to follow up on the kidney measurement that was big at the 20W scan. I want to be as low maintenance as possible. It means they're not concerned.
I have to do the same thing. I'm worried about mine because kidney problems run in my family.
I'm having twins, so have been getting growth scan ultrasounds every 4 weeks since A/S at 20 weeks. For me, it is to make sure babies are still growing and one is not getting exponentially bigger than the other. However, I am now getting weekly cervical ultrasounds, due to several trips to L&D with preterm contractions, to make sure babies are going to stay in there as long as possible. I haven't been bumped up to growth scans every two weeks because babies are still growing, and one has not become gargantuan. I would ask your doc why the bump to every two weeks. Always good to know the reason for any change in treatment.

I had an appointment today for a follow up from l&d. They said the bump up is because if how far off her growth curve she has fallen. 32-22%

Agreed. We were getting frequent u/s bc of bleeding and placenta previa issues and it was very stressful. BUT we just got back from out last one @31wks and got a great report! I'm so releived. Placenta moved, DD is head down and almost 4lbs! Measuring a lil above % wise so I am a content mama. T&P to all you mamas with concerning issues. Hoping for safe happy bundles in our arms soon! But not too soon..xoxo

From 32 percentile to the 22nd. In 4 weeks.
I'm not a doctor, but my LO had IUGR in my first pregnancy (i.e. I think he was on the 2.5 percentile for weight when born) and I am pretty sure that a 10 percent difference is within the range of normal error for ultrasounds. There is a large range for error in those things even when using the same machine and with the same technician/doctor. Within two days, I had my OB measure my LO at one weight and 2 days later my MFM measured him a full pound heavier...both were highly trained in ultrasounds. I remember the first time I got sent to an MFM was when I had no fundal height growth for a month straight (i.e. was 4-5 weeks behind) and went from the 38th percentile to below the tenth (which is technical "IUGR") in just a couple fo weeks...even then, there was not any talk of delivery until after I got a pre-e diagnosis. All I am saying, is just to remember that because I know sometimes it is easy to get freaked out by the doctors.

This is purely my experience, so you can take it for what it's worth, but as I mentioned in my PM I was given and IUGR diagnosis as well. My LO measured in the 4-5% consistently for several months, I had bi monthly ultrasounds at my MFM and I was talked into inducing because she was estimated at around 4lbs at 38 weeks. She was born the next day at 6lbs, 6oz., so it's not entirely accurate, there's a level of human error involved. FX you LO continues to grow.
Eta: at my last appt with this LO my fundal height measured behind again, I will have a growth u/s next Thursday. I'm assuming she will be small because I'm very petite (5') and my H is of average height, but I refuse to be induced this time if weight is the only issue.
