@artichoken FX that LO is doing better by next US. That is concerning, but as a PP said there is a margin of error with ultrasound. Still glad your doc is keeping a close eye on you, though. :)

FX your baby is doing well. I agree that the weight thing is total speculation. They base it off of head size and femur length; there's no way to actually measure mass in utero. Based on my scans with DS1, they thought he was going to be 10-11 lbs at birth. He was 7lbs15oz, just has my jumbo noggin and my husband's height. I've seen it go the other way too, with baby being pounds heavier than estimated.

@mamapiers My OB does a routine US at every visit for everyone, regardless of risk. I didn't even know what a fundal height check was until I started posting here as I've never had one. With my first son, I did feel incredibly lucky to get to see him so often with routine US.

However, a growth scan is a specialized in depth US performed during the late 2nd-3rd trimester and usually only done in high risk pregnancies, or if there is something specific that needs to be tracked. So generally not something to be envious about. I'm having growth scans every 4 weeks (moving to 2 after 35 weeks) with my MFM in addition to my now weekly US with my OB to track LO's growth and measure cervical length due to my history of PTL. As of Wednesday, my OB doubled my appointments and won't schedule my planned cesarean until 37 weeks (with the strong implication that he doesn't think I'll make it that far anyway.). Not lucky, terrifying.

  • I'm high risk (hypertension) so I've been going every four weeks and starting at 32 weeks, I will go every 2 weeks. While sure it's nice to see LO on the monitor, it sucks knowing WHY you are going in for multiple U/S. Plus, it means taking a lot more time off from work which eats up my sick time. Sick time is how I get paid for Maternity leave. So, no. I wouldn't call myself lucky.
