For the PA/NJ people here (I know there are a lot of you!), where is the best place to get a cheesesteak in Philadelphia (or at least a really good one)? I'm in the historic district/old city area and I don't have a car. Someone told me not to go to the "tourist trap places like Pat's or Geno's" and that I should go to Johnny's. But last night a guy who is a Philly native said Pat's is the best. Pat's is more convenient but I don't want to be disappointed!
Re: NBR: Help With Cheesesteaks!
ETA: I think it was Jim's. Not Pats. I went with a girlfriend and we tried Geno's, Pat's, and Jim's. Whiz is gross but we decided when in Rome.... Next time no whiz.

ETA: you know what, in order to get the best cheese steak, get what YOU want on it. Extra cheese, onions, mushrooms, ketchup, whatever. Just make sure it sounds good to you
I am not a cheesesteak connoisseur, but this was delicious!
On a related note, is it worth trying it any other way than with cheese whiz and onions?
No whiz!
I hate whiz. I eat cheesesteaks with garlic and provolone. My aunt (lives in PHL) sent me this link for the next time I'm there, maybe these would work for breakfast: https://www.zagat.com/b/philadelphia/8-great-pancake-plates-in-philly#1
Also, I get American cheese, fried onions and hit peppers. The American cheese forces me to hang my head in shame when I order
