edited February 2014 in Trying to Get Pregnant
I can't remember if this has been done before, so how many kids would you have in an ideal world?

Re: GTKY: How many kids

  • I would like to be "1 and Done", but DH would like 3. I chose 2 since thats what we'll likely agree on.

  • I would like 2 or 3, DH wants 2.  We joke and say that after having 2, I'll probably want to be done and he'll want another.

  • DH wants 5. I don't think that will happen. I've always said 2 is perfect, 3 is okay but no more than that.

  • I've always only wanted 1. DH has 2 from his 1st marriage, tho, so really, we'll have 3 if we have one of our own.

  • don't think there will be time for more than 2, unless the second one is twins
  • We would like 2 or 3 but h wants to be done at 40. That's less than 2 years away!

  • 2-- but IF we ever get to that, considering not even to 1 yet-- we would evaluate and possibly have 3. Fx for 1 currently
  • I still say 4, even though logically that might not be feasible for us anymore. We agreed at 3-4 before we got married. (Debbie Downer: I thought we'd be TTC a second by now)

I realize that I'm not old, I just turned 30, but if I get pregnant and stay pregnant when we're cleared again, that baby won't come until after I'm 31. And then we have to see if after the first it changes how long it takes us to TTC another. Originally I wanted to be done having kids at 35. I've moved that to 37 based on how long it's taking us, but I don't know how this will play out. But, in an ideal world, 4.

  • In an ideal world we would have 6. I have always wanted a large family but not Duggar large. Six seems like a nice number.

I will admit that odd numbers freak me out so the thought of "one and done" doesn't sit well with me personally.

I wanted 5, and DH is freaked out by odd numbers, so we agreed on 6! How funny! I get a lot of side-eyes for wanting such a big family, and a lot of people saying "You're nuts, you'll change your mind."

I get that reaction from people who don't know me very well, but most of our friends either come from large families or are surrounded by large families (we are Catholic, sort of comes with the territory lol). It's always classmates or non-Catholic friends who look at us like we are crazy when we mention wanting a big family.

  • I answered 3, but I think it will depend on how long it takes us to get pregnant. Right now just TTC #1
  • I want 2, but DH is Mr. "Let's have 1 and see how it goes."  I think he's afraid pregnancy will be really hard since I'll be high risk, but I'm determined to prove him wrong.

  • I would pop out as many kids as H would let me (Michelle Duggar style), but 4 is a far more realistic number.
I am with you there!  I am a little freaked out by it honestly, but yeah, I am totally going to keep going until the Man says stop (if we are lucky enough to get this thing started with 1!) I think that will end up being 3-4 but we will see....

  • 2 and then think about it. The two people in my family who had three kids told us to stop at 2 haha, But if our family isn't complete we'll keep going.

PS: I was watching Parenthood on the DVR tonight and there was a great moment between the four siblings. It made me all warm and fuzzy...
  • I don't think we really know yet, though I voted 2. I think we'll see how the first one goes and go from there.

  • I chose 2 although I would have 3 if DH was on board but he definitely isn't...so much so that he is considering a vasectomy once we finally have the second one. After dd was born I swore I would never have another child but that viewpoint quickly changed after I got through the postpartum depression and colic!!
  • We would be thrilled if we could have 1.

  • H wants 3 I always thought 2. Not sure how it will all play out.

  • Ideally for me, two. DH wants three, but who knows how we'll feel if/when we get to the point of making that decision.

  • I only want 2 and luckily H feels the same. The only way we'd have 3 is if we got twins this time, and to be completely honest, the thought of twins terrifies me. I felt overwhelmed a lot when my daughter was a newborn, I couldn't imagine having two newborns.

November 2014: IVF w/ICSI #4 Agonist/Antagonist with EPP and Prednisone, Baby Aspirin, Lovenox, and IVIG for immune issues.  Converted to freeze all due to lining issues.  2 blasts frozen on day 6!

January 2015: FET #2 Cancelled due to lining issues

    April 2015: FET #2.1

    PAIF/SAIF Welcome!

  • I voted 4 but my husband says 2, so we'll see how that turns out.  We could average it at 3, but then there's a few studies that say 3 is the most stressful number, and its actually less stressful to have more, so might as well go for 4, right?

Considering I"m not pregnant yet, the youngest I could be for #1 is 32, so I'm not sure how realistic 4 really is but a girl can dream.

I most definitely do not want an 'only child' because every one of those I've ever met, I've pretty much disliked with a passion. 3 would be fantastic if we could afford it, without me having to work, but alas that probably won't ever happen. So we've settled on 2. My sister and brother both have 2 each and the kids are little buddies, I want that.

Ouch! I'm sorry the fact that my mom didn't feel like popping out more babies would make you hate me with a passion..

  • Woaaaaah, it wasn't meant as an afront to anyone on here. The question was how many we ourselves would like and I am simply stating that the people who I know personally that are only children are not people I have liked. I didn't say I hate every only child ever. And I don't know any of you personally, so it wasn't directed at any of you, at all.. It's simply my personal preference that I would like to try to have more than one.

I honestly wasn't trying to offend anyone by stating my personal opinion. I apologize!
