Cycling Out of State Is Wearing On Me...

I went for my first out-of-state consult in December 2011 and have been cycling out of state ever since. I feel like I have to beg to get tests and b/w done by doctors who aren't "treating" me. I feel like I'm annoying or bothering them from their "real" patients. Plus having to explain why I have to travel vs cycling locally is wearing on me. It's like being in No-Man's Land. I was told today I need to get another sonohysterogram in a few weeks since I had a "uterine procedure" last week. Beta was 18 yesterday and my OB said it was good enough. Umm, not for the RE.... I just don't have any more left to fight people to get tests done --"why do you need that again", "that's not why you aren't getting pg", "we don't know if insurance will cover it" ... I moved last summer and the miscarriage debacle taught me that I need a gyn in my current city and not an hour away. It was an act of congress to get an appt with anyone!! I feel like a junkie who has prescriptions filled at 10 different doctors... "Who did the last saline sono"----need to call someone else this time to avoid the "looks". Just venting..

Re: Cycling Out of State Is Wearing On Me...

  • At first I tried to go through a local OB for out of state monitoring, and it felt like a battle between doctors trying to call the shots. I eventually figured out that it was easier to have the lab, testing, and ultrasound requests sent directly from out of state dr to the lab, hospital, or dedicated ultrasound facility rather than going through a local doctor. I did need an OB for an updated PAP, but that was it. It's good to have a local doctor you can call for emergencies, but I'd just try to have RBA handle all the testing requisitions to the actual testing facilities who aren't going to question everything. I know my clinic had staff just to help out of state and international patients coordinate services and care -- hopefully RBA has something like this too, so all the coordination isn't on you?

This adds just another layer of hair pulling. I'm sorry :(

  • I am so sorry you are having trouble. My OB who is local became my point person whatever needed to be ordered her sec did. If the insurance would cover it they ordered it and I had all my blood done at their office or the assoc hospital. Purple is right, however if they won't so that get in with an OB or gyn. If you are near Dedham Ma I can give you the name.

Sorry- let me clarify my question-- did you go to the practice (any location) for a consult for your losses or did you only go to them after you were pg with your LO?? How did they work w/the Beer Center? I don't think my losses are immune but "just" cruddy embryos but I haven't had any immune testing so it's just a guess.

It never gets faxed and the RE had to track it down which doesn't work so well when you need it the same day. How could you get an appt with outpatient radiology for the last minute? You don't get notice for a lot of these things and you can't just walk in. KWIM? Like one place had these rules that they needed the RX by 3pm the day before or they won't do it. Sometimes you don't get the instructions by then or Im not home by 3 to print the orders/scan to the place. Anyway, Im just complaining. I've managed to do it for 2 + years but its annoying. I would call out-pt radiology, they always had an apt within the week.  I do remember disliking cycling OOT a lot, for so many reasons. I hated not having DH around, I was bored, because I was too poor to go out and have fun.  Luckily I had my Aunt and a few cousins to keep me company.

I went to the MFM after my 2nd loss but my doctors husband is an re so she takes some ivf patients who have lots of stuff going on. They emailed with the beer center to figure out what I needed them to do and then when I was pg they decided with beer how long to keep me on different meds and the MFM actually kept me on Lovenox past the time beer wanted.

And of course did all the normal MFM stuff.
