April 2014 Moms

33 weeks today & lost my mucus plug!

This is my 1st and was grossed out by it. SO thought I was kidding him until I called the doctor and explained what I saw. Has this ever happened to anyone? How long after did baby come? Doc told me not to worry but I'm a little nervous. First time mommy jitters I guess...

  • Nope, this hasn't happened to me yet, but I wouldn't worry. Our doula told us this can happen early, but in most cases, will regenerate to keep baby safe.

  • I lost mine at 36 weeks and had the baby 8 hours later!
I missed some big signs though - mine was HUGE and blood streaked.
Period like cramps started seconds later.  And never stopped.  Even with this I didn't realize I was in labor for hours.

It's a lot earlier for you so doubt you are in labor, as long as you have no other symptoms of labor!

  • I lost mine with DD at about 34-35 weeks and still had her 6 days late.
  • 8 hours later for me, but that was 38 weeks. It isn't always indicative of labor and can apparently regenerate. You'll only find out if you do go into labor. I wouldn't worry, and thank you for not posting a picture!

  • I lost my muscus plug at 4 months with my last baby and went into preterm labor right after, thankfully they where able to stop labor and keep me pregnant until about 34 weeks. She's a healthy 11yr old. For some labor happens shortly after especially if cramping starts. Good luck
  • it's well within the range of a normal time to lose your MP.
it doesn't necessarily mean your birth is imminent, especially since you have 7 weeks to go still.
it can and probably will regenerate.

all that said, i lost mine hours into real labor at 40 weeks along, and baby was born at the end of that labor process.
  • Like people said it can regenerate. I lost mine a few times. It didn't mean i was i labor.

  • Sorry for being so gross ladies. I was grossed out myself. I did call the doctor and she told me not to worry. It doesn't mean I will actually go into labor. It's just my bodies way of preparing. I may or may not go...no one really knows. As for taking a picture I honestly have no interest in seeing it again. And what I described to the doc she said it definitely was just that.
It's just a different ball game when it happens to you then when you just hear about it.

RAWR it's feisty in here today- I don't understand the issue with her asking/posting this?

Losing your Mucus plug CAN mean labor, it can also NOT mean labor. I think it's a valid thing to post.

OP just keep a watch for cramping, bleeding, etc. it's good you already called your doc, hopefully it will give you some peace of mind!

    This exactly :)

You think this is bad? Go check out March 14. You will be humbled, I promise.

I didn't say it was "bad" I said I don't get why people have an issue with this post. People post about snissing, blood clots, and gross shit all the time- pregnancy, labor and after birth can be pretty fucking gross and a damn mucus plug is not the worst of it.

It's not about the gross, people make fun of the grossness of mucus plugs the same way they do all that other stuff.  It's about the fact that this means we're about to get deluged with identical posts.

This. Plus the whole "ZOMG AM I THE ONLY ONE IN THE HISTORY OF EVAR?!?!" questions that come with them. Cause, you know, millions of women haven't been pregnant or had mucus plugs before this, and Google (or one of hundreds of pregnancy books) couldn't possibly provide this information.

Uh, swearing throughout your post is much more "feisty" than what OP received. It's just the first of many. It's like "Am I pregnant?" "Is this movement?" "Am I in labor?" Questions. All very repetitive, but questions none of us internet strangers can answer. Calm down.
  • Ladies I don't get to go on The Bump daily and as a teacher I'm home on winter break when this happened so just like everyone else I had a question/incident where I thought it would be ok to post. I haven't seen anything on a MP before so I apologize if this has been asked/posted before. I don't have sisters and my mom had children years ago and it never happened to her. So forgive me for asking what seemed like an inappropriate question. For those who are more understanding thank you.

  • I lost mine, my cervix is still long & tight, Dr said not to worry about it.  I am 32 weeks tomorrow.

Please no picture, it will not go well with my B&J's heath bar ice cream, and I will be pissed if I don't get to enjoy it.  :)

Omergerd, that's my favorite ice cream. Coffee or vanilla?
