Well I hard core cheated tonight. I won't list what I actually ate, as I have enough sense to be embarrassed, but my two hour was only 128. I need to be under 120. This diagnosis doesn't make any friggin sense at all. If I had to estimate, I'd be at least four/ five times more than what I should have had as my carb limit. Seven more weeks.

I think the two hour limit is more forgiving. Even when I've been way over at an hour (like 150s) I've been under 120 by two hours. But everyone is different! It's hard to know when it's a big deal and when it's not.

This thread is both educational and terrifying for me. I won't start testing until at least Tuesday when I go to my GD class (3 damn hours!!). In the meantime, I'm totally convinced I'm hurting my baby every time I eat anything...even though my numbers for both the 1 & 3 hour were borderline. I have a feeling it's going to be a long ten more weeks for me :-S
I don't get this whole GD thing. I saw the doc and I failed two of my three hour draws so I am required to check four times a day. Ive been testing all weekend and I am at least 20 under the goal levels. Seems ridiculous to have to test so often especially since it was my birthday and baby shower this weekend and I def ate things I don't usually eat.
I hope so after I told her my diet she laughed and said " no wonder why you failed. You never eat anything comparable to that drink" I have mild PCOS so I changed my diet a year ago instead of medication and it has worked wonders for me.
I checked out for the weekend, but catching up this morning! I hear everyone on the totally weird readings that we get - I got a sky high one yesterday after lunch which was very surprising.
@soultermination - glad they got your insulin figured out! And glad it's not going to cost you an arm and a leg!
So I ran out of test strips this morning I get 50 counts in each refill the pharmacy's only have 100 count (I've called many) but they cat give me those without a new script. Called the doctor who I see tomorrow and said I either need a new script for 100 so I can do my additional test for today (I only test twice a day now) and tomorrow morning or I can miss two readings and wait for them to be shipped the new batch of 50. Is it terrible that I'm hoping I can just skip the next two tests and not have to worry about what I eat for a brief period of time???
I put like a teaspoon of jam on my toast this morning and my numbers went CRAZY. oh well. experiment failed.
I tried the exact same thing this weekend on my English muffin and did not tolerate it well at all. I bought the strawberry flavoured cream cheese instead and it does the trick for my sweet craving..

I took a break while waiting for them to analyze my week worth of numbers and get back to me. I felt guilt the whole time but it was nice. Sounds like your docs response will make the decision for you.

Cream cheese is a good idea!

Well they never called me back or called in a new RX so no testing it is!
I only had one last pregnancy, but they strap a monitor to your tummy and it monitors fetal movement and your contractions and heart beat, I think. It's been awhile.

I was at my 33 week appointment today and the midwife said no NSTs as long as my GD is diet controlled. As for ultrasounds, I'll have a growth check at my next (35) week appointment and then likely at my 39 week. They said growth u/s every four weeks, but I'll likely only need those two. I've never made it to a full forty weeks, so it's unlikely I'll be post date.

I start my NSTs tomorrow. Praying this baby actually passes them because my last baby never did.
Good luck!!
Can you explain what's included in the NST? I was just thinking it was listening to the heartbeat but I have noooo clue.
You get hooked to a heart rate monitor for baby, a uterine monitor for you and then a clicker to count movements. Every time baby moves, you click and they look for decelerations and accelerations with the heartbeat and any contractions you may have. I've been going twice a week since 29 weeks. Most NST's have been 1/2 hour, but one last week was about 3 hours because she wasn't cooperating and failed so I had to have a bio physical profile.
Sat through my 3 hour class today. No snacks provided during the class and I forgot to bring my own - almost had a hypoglycemic incident in the middle! Haha!
I'm actually strangely relieved to start testing/tracking tomorrow so that I can see if I'm keeping myself in line. It's been difficult to restrain myself without the accountability, I am somewhat embarrassed to admit. Here's hoping this goes well....
I'm completely ignoring the advice on how many carbs at this point and just trying to eat some with every meal/snack, eat the kinds I like and what and how much makes me feel good. I think theres hysteria from some people about ketones. I eat plenty of calories and I doubt with eating even 100-150 g of carbs today I'm making large amounts of ketones.
you aren't required to test for keytones every day? I have to pee on a strip every morning to make sure I'm not making keytones. have yet to have one show I am. I hate this stupid diet, i'm trying to be patient but it makes me feel so crappy.

really? i had wild blueberry preserves on my toast with breakfast and my 2 hr was 97. Guess i lucked out!
Rrrrrachel well that's cool! Wish it hadn't been mentioned to me! My husband and I typically eat low carb and my diabetic nutritionist told me that she was worried I was passing keytones after hearing our regular diet.
I don't consider myself low carb, although I probably am based on the food pyramid. I know that if i went on an Atkins forum or whatever and described what I ate and said I was concerned about ketosis I would probably get laughed out of the room.
Mama to a little girl born July 2011 and a little boy born April 2014!
yeah, when I say low carb its not like we go out of our way not to have carbs, we just don't eat nearly as many grains and breads and such as most of America. We prefer the protein rich diet with lots of vegetables and fruits. I'm so tired of these doctors telling me to eat things I would normally never eat. how is it healthy for me to eat 3 slices of bread to get my carbs up if I'm feeling full and fulfilled without it? Never would I have gone off on my own after eating my afternoon snack to find something to bump my carbs another 15g to meet my 30g requirement. an apple and peanut butter should be good all on its own. its a nice balanced snack and makes me feel good. why isn't that enough?
Feeling guilty and ashamed for eating half a chocolate bar, but there's only so much restriction I can take. T_T Hoping my endo tells me that my shower next month will be a "free" day, or I'm gonna be a sad panda.

So I have been doing the diet and testing thing for a month now. My numbers up until this past weekend were always borderline needing insulin. Now I am on break from school for a week and my numbers are unbelievably low in comparison (no change in food choices). I mean a meal that would be 129 has been like 88 this week. I used the control solution twice now and all seems to be in working order but still....!!! I even had a buffet dinner with a pie dessert as part of the meal last night and it was 93!!! I thought numbers were supposed to be harder to control because the hormone gets stronger, not crazy easy like this!?!?!? Any thoughts?
SoulTermination I made cadbury mini egg cookies for DH to take to work and during the process I ate 2 cookies..I really wanted another 4 or 5
We're only human! I think giving in to your craving once in a while is not a huge deal..Think of it this way, I am sure you could have polished off the whole thing but you only gave in to half a chocolate bar so I say good for you!!!
I think we're all doing the best we can and that is all we can do.
@spalumb9 I think stress may also play a factor in blood sugar levels. Mine are always lower on the weekend then during the week and I am fairly certain it is due to work stress. The stress you have while in school may be why they are higher.

sounds like being out of school has lowered your stress level! go you!
so I started glyburide last night. I did not sleep, at all. Not sure if that is on me or the meds. Either way I woke up this morning with fasting at 78 which is right where they want it. hoping I don't crash and burn with the rest of my numbers all day. they are worried that since almost all my 2 hour post meals have been in the 90s that my post meals could go hypoglycemic now. fun fun.
Speaking of cheating. I was feeling really lousy yesterday and came home from an appointment and wanted a treat. So for lunch I made myself a root beer float. It was within my carb limit but so not what I should have eaten. and you know what It was good! and my sugars 2 hours later were normal so I'm just going to let it ride and not feel guilty.
So I was instructed yesterday that I should not eat any fruit before lunch, but then I was told Greek yogurt is a good snack - even with fruit in it. Do you guys avoid fruit in yogurt before lunch? Or is that taking it too far? I guess my tests will play out as they will....just not sure there is enough fruit in this Chobani to register?
I had a bad experience with fruit and Greek yogurt. Made me spike and crash and feel terrible. It was kind of scary. But I'm sure plenty of people eat it with no problem.
