  • I'm sorry you are getting so much grief :(. I personally like both Fallon and Livie. Pick the one you love. There are far worse names and spellings for that matter....good luck

Regarding Fynlee; the Finlay and Finley versions were seen as masculine in other areas,

Well, it's not those spelling versions that are seen as masculine, the name itself is etymologically masculine, which is probably why you got the reactions that you did.

Yeah. You just gave your daughter a boys name AND a boys name spelled incorrectly. Which, BTW, I am not all tweaked out over because I have a daughter named Emerson. However, I fully own and understand that it has a masculine origin and didn't think I could change that by naming her Emmersynn. Because Emmersynn isn't a girls name either.

Also, I chose Finlay for a son. It doesn't make his name anymore masculine because you spelled yours Fynlee.

    @mummyofsix

I secretly name crush on Emerson. :) Kudos to you for not changing the spelling. Both of your kid's names are beautiful.

Yeah the fact that there are far worse names & spellings than what OP suggested make her spellings a little better?
    :-q

I'd hate to name my child & say, "Oh well. There are worse names. So that makes this name look awesome!"

  • The tastes do not seem so broad, but I will give it a shot.  My husband is usually the one to deny all name choices and never loved the idea of Fallon (Fallyn as I would put it) , but went along with it because we couldn't agree on anything else.  Maybe this could help narrow down possibilities:

I would never choose a name in the top 300 name list, I would like it to sound good with Fynlee (or Finley, let the eye rolls commence), go with middle names Hope or Faith (family tradition), have a shortened one syllable NN

Hope is one of my favorite names. I know someone named Jillian Hope & I've always thought it was so beautiful.

The PP's have suggested some beautiful & different names. Lorelei & Georgia were on our short list if this baby is a girl.

Yes, Skeemer, but I didn't say that when I chose the names.  Obviously, I do like the names and wasn't thinking "Oh there are worse."  I'm sure some people are thinking that, as I do with some names I hear.  Everyone has their own opinions.

    I was responding to KayP79.

ETA: in other words, I realize you didn't say that. I just thought the opinion of "There could be worse" isn't very valid.

I think lyn is more feminine than lon.  I know a Braylon who is a boy and a Braylyn who is a girl.  My mom's middle name is also Lyn, I like the incorportation.

Wow.  Thank you ladies for all the opinions and comments.  This is completely getting out of hand.  I shouldn't have to defend my character and I feel like that is what I am now doing.  The comments aren't even about opinion anymore, they are disrespectful, including some of mine.

I stand by my question that you didn't answer.......what's the pronunciation issue with Fallon that you don't like?

Please don't base any decisions off of Braylyn/Braylon. It's an atrocious "name".

Please spell your children's names correctly. They will thank you for it.

  • I like different and unique. My dd is Carys and ds is Asher. My best friend's daughter is Brinlee a variation of her maiden name. However, when I saw Fallyn I thought it was pronounced Fallen. Lyvee I can live with, but still not a fan. As a teacher, please don't give a kid a name and just spell it weird to make it unique. My dd Carys get mispronounced quite a bit, but I chose the Welsh spelling. I like Fallon, but I think it's sort of masculine.

Oh Arden and Fynlee is a really cute sibset too!
  • I also understand some of your comments about who decides a legit name, spellings etc. All names started somewhere and some were probably thought of as weird at first. Also I don't think a name has to be old fashioned (Hazel, Eleanor, etc) to be pretty.

In my previous post, however, I did state I am not a fan of these spellings. I like different but not weird spellings. My mom named me Seana. Ugh it has been mispronounced my entire life. Annoying. She thought it was more feminine than Shawna I guess.

She asked for opinions and she got truthful answers. That is what this board is for.

  • Fallyn looks like it would be pronounced "fall-yin". I like original names but these spellings just don't make a lot of sense to me. Remember that your child will carry their name onto whatever they do. Their name should be suitable for a congresswoman, doctor, artist, or musician.
  • Also "Fallen Faith" sounds very depressing if you aren't privy to the unique pronunciation.
  • Maybe OP would like Elodie?

  • I think we have similar taste in names, aside from the spelling issues. Fallon, Liv, and Arden are at the top of my list for this little one. I think Livie is a cute nickname for Liv as a child, but I think she'll want a more sophisticated sounding name (Liv) as an adult. As others have said, and I'm sure you're sick of hearing, please spell them correctly for your daughter's sake. She doesn't need to match big sis. All that being said, please don't use any of those 3 names.. because I likely will and I don't want to share ;) Good luck, and I'd love to know what you end up choosing!
