My original plan was to work until about a week before my due date. This way we would have more in savings and I'd have a bit of time to get our old house packed up and relax before giving birth.
I actually ended up out of work a month ago because of cut backs. Now I'm doing small work from home jobs, hired as needed, so I stop whenever I want.
My edd is on a Wednesday, right now the plan is to work up to the previous Friday. With DS I totally could have worked that long and don't see why I wouldn't be able to this time around.
l plan to stop full time work at 36 weeks then carry on part time till 38 weeks. After that I'll be available to consult if need be, up till when I go into labor.
I'm not really doing much nesting or buying of baby stuff until 36 weeks, just trying to focus on work and 'banking' my maternity leave for now (I'm a contractor).
@britleann26 - great idea to keep your bag in the car! I never thought of that!
Being a teacher, I plan on going up until my due date. So I will be large and in charge teaching until the last Friday in May! Yippie-sounds so exciting!!!
Right now I'm planning on my last day of work being 5/23 (due June 7th). I'm not technically getting maternity leave (teacher so we will be on summer break) and I'm not planning on going back full time at the beginning of next school year. I have 18 days I can use, so I figure I should take the time off if I can. I also commute to work on LA freeways and my job is about 45 minutes from my hospital, so that does worry me a bit.

Last time I worked until the day I went into labor, a week before my due date. I was scheduled to work that last week, training my temp, oops!!
This time I will not be going back, so I intend to give a month or two notice and have my last day be May 23. I'm due the first week in June, so this will give me , hopefully, a week at home to get things situated.
My main job I'm working until the end. I am due June 2 and I would really like to make it to June. We get an extra paycheck in May due to the number of Fridays so I could use the extra cash right before! My second job I only plan on doing until the end of April/beginning of May. It's far to physical for me to be able to do it any later than that.
I'm a SS because I'll just be substitute teaching, so I will make the decision when to stop when I need to stop. Probably won't be all the way up to my due date because I'm sure I'll be getting too uncomfortable.
With my son I worked the day before I went into labor (9 days prior to due date- labor started early am on a Saturday). I plan on doing the same this time. I am very worried, though, that I will go into labor at work, which is a 45 minute drive from my house, where my husband works, and the hospital where I will deliver. I work at a hospital, but not the one I will deliver at, and I've heard so many stories of STM+ having fast labors, I don't know what I would do. Last time, I worked at the hospital I delivered at, so I never had these worries. I guess I'll just hope to go into labor on the weekend or during a time I'm not at work!
In a perfect world I'd work up until going into labor. Realistically speaking, my doctor has been not-so-subtly hinting about bedrest so I think my leave will start sooner than planned but I'm not going on leave until my doctor tells me I need to.
Those of you planning to go on leave early w/o medical reason, why? I'm just curious. I get 12 weeks, but if I went at 38 weeks knowing she could be up to 2 weeks late, that would be a month off that I wouldn't have with the baby. Ie an extra month of paying for childcare too.

If I didn't have medical reasons, I'd still want to go out a little early (and my job is just a boring desk job!). I'm a planner and would like a little extra time to get stuff ready around the house, veg, prepare for mom mode, etc.
It's crazy how leave is different everywhere. Here, you can take 4 weeks off before you due date and then 6 weeks vaginal/8 week c-section at a reduced pay. My company has FMLA (12 weeks) and CFRA, which my employer extends for 12 weeks after birth, both unpaid.
Last say will be May 13th! (due May 20). I'm not going back so it was an easy decision for me. I have a few days to get ready before the wedding I'm in on the 16th. 12 weeks and counting!
I'm per diem so if I don't work, I don't get paid. Going to go until the last minute. Can't afford not to. And I'm only taking 6 weeks off. Then I'll start out by only picking up one 12 hour night shift a week. That's my plan anyways.
I'm a SS on this one.... My due date is June 21, but my OB & MFM said they'd be happy to see me make it to June 1st. I've always had spontaneous pre-term labor that we are fighting against. So, it could be I go out on "D" day and take my 6 weeks + accrued vacation from there.
The plan is to start weekly appointments after 24 weeks and keep an eye on the cervix and baby growth so that we can keep him in as long as possible.
I'm secretly hoping they put me on bed rest a few weeks early so I can use up my Extended Illness Benefit (2 weeks) and the short disability benefit. Either way, If I dont go out on bed rest, I'll likely work from home 2-3 days/week until D day anyway.
I dont want to take any leave prior to his arrival so that I can keep it all for extending my leave.

@futuremrsw9 fmla covers me for 12 weeks which ended on the 9th of feb so my position is open to be filled. However since I'm on disability they cant let me go. Basically after the baby is born I'll go back into work and if they have an open position I'll fill it or be prn. I'm a CNA and my dr said no lifting over 20 lbs which doesn't work so well in a nursing home. But since they won't accomadate me I'll get paid short term disability until 6-8 weeks post partum depending in if I have a c section or vaginal birth. In a way I got screwed but I'm looking at the bright side. If I go back prn I'll be able to pick up shifts around dh's work schedule and not have to pay for daycare. But then my paychecks don't have a guaranteed amount of hours.
Eta a lot of women at my work place get around this by not telling them they have lifting restrictions but I had back problems at about 10 weeks that lasted until 16-17 weeks. Since I filed short term disability my dr had to clear me and she would only clear me with lifting restrictions to prevent any more pain or like a relapse with my sacrioiliac joint dysfunction. So I couldn't just tell them I was good to go.
@Mztwilson - Sacroiliac joint dysfunction sucks!! I literally feel your pain and don't blame you one bit for saying nay on the lifting!

I'm waiting till the very end to take my leave. I'll only get 6 paid weeks for vaginal delivery or 8 for c-section plus my two weeks of vacation. So I want to maximize my time with my little man before returning to work.
I plan on working until I either go into labor or the week of my EDD. I don't get any paid maternity leave. I only have a few days of PTO so I'll be using all of that up when I leave. At my part-time job, I'll probably be done by early to mid May. I hope. I teach at a dance studio and it's getting hard to teach as it is.
So I mentioned to my OB today my worry of going into labor at work, 45 min away from home and hospital...He says maybe I should take off starting at 38 weeks given my son was 9 days early and he says the tendency would be for a second baby to come early as well, probably even a little earlier than the 1st LO. I really want to work right up to delivery and not waste any leave time waiting...I guess I have some thinking to do.
I'm already on leave since my work place won't accomidate my work restrictions
Same here im not on leave because my work hasnt found me a replacement the boss seemed upset when i gave her the paperwork from my doctor and now my work can not meet my restrictions of no heavy lifting
My maternity leave is unpaid, so I really can't afford to go sooner. Going to try my best to keep working until I go into labor.
Same here. Since I do work hourly, I may cut back a little on my hours as we go along, but I don't work all that many hours to begin with.
I work 8 hours now with no break at all i am on my feet the whole time i have spoken to my boss about this and she still seems to not get it so i am looking forward to cutting my hours down to 5 or 6 hours a day if i can

Other than the fact that I'm not going back, we will be switching from insurance to dh's right before the birth. I want to make sure all of that happens before I hit the delivery room just in case there are any issues. No way can we afford any more than his deductible.
I work in a hospital so most of our staff works until their water breaks at work. Lol it sounds funny but never fails. Then wheel me to L&D. That's most likely my plan unless I get put on restrictions.
Last say will be May 13th! (due May 20). I'm not going back so it was an easy decision for me. I have a few days to get ready before the wedding I'm in on the 16th. 12 weeks and counting!
With DS1 i worked until 5 days before my due date. I worked retail and wanted to work until i had the baby but it was more convenient for my manager to just take me off the schedule on the start of the week that I was due. I'm a SAHM now so it won't be an issue this time.

My leave is per semester. I'll finish up somewhere in weeks 35 to 37 (there is a week between semesters that doesn't seem to belong to either.) This was a big consideration in planning for baby - trying to make sure my due date was not at the very end of a semester.
I'm really looking forward to the time off to nest.
With DD I was due 11/10 and worked up until 11/9. I had her on 11/17. I was SO bored that week I was out of work. Everything (nursery wise) was done and I literally sat on the couch watching bad tv. If work didn't do a big good bye lunch, I would've gone to work that week but just felt like an idiot. I hated that I burned precious maternity leave on that week.
I will work until the bitter end this time. I'd rather have the leave time on the other end once baby is here
I commute from Long Island to NYC and it takes me 1 hr 45 mins each way. Besides that, I drive 5 mintues to the train station, take the railroad to Penn Station, then the subway (with one transfer) to my work. I don't think I will be able to do this past 38 weeks, if not sooner, so I'm shooting for starting my leave at 38 weeks.
I am due on June 26th and if all goes well my last day of work will be June 13th. My DS come right on time so I don't anticipate this baby will go late. I'm in Canada though so because we get a year government paid I am not too worried about taking the extra two weeks before due date.
I will work right up until my water breaks. My work is right across the street from the maternity ward so I'm not too worried about anything. If I need to go, I'm closer than if I were at home
