- Waterproof mattress pad for our bed: yay or nay? (Not concerned about water breaking, but later baby accidents.) Recommendations?
- Edema: once your swelling appeared, did it gradually affect more areas? (Already called doc, they're not concerned--BP is low, urine clear--I'm just curious how others swelling evolved.)
- Wipes: what did you use on baby the first few weeks? I was just told (friendly advice, not medical) no pre-made wipes: soft paper towels or cotton cloth and water only for up to 6 weeks. If you made the switch, when did you start using pre-made wipes?

@jbelle I can only really help out with one of your questions. A good friend is a regional manager for mattress firm and recommended this mattress protector:
We've had it for a couple of yrs now and really have been happy with it. It's not plastic so it doesn't make any crunchy noises. Just thought I'd recommend!

Alright STMs. Stool softener for after birth. Yay or nay? If so, care to make a recommendation?
FTM but I've always heard "yay" ( a big "yay"). I picked up some Rite Aid brand Colace the other day to use.
Does that have a laxative in it too?? I don't know if I should get the kind with or without laxative. I don't want to be running to the bathroom all the time.

On the formula. I agree with @legallyginger.
I also got that Similac sample in the mail last week. I can't figure out how they found me. I've never signed up for anything with them and just moved to a new house a few months ago. Creeeeeeeepy.
I have no idea either! Maybe it has to do with registering or something? It was a happy surprise though!
How are you guys getting these samples? I wanted to keep a small amount on hand just in case I needed it, although my plan is to BF exclusively. Apparently Big Brother doesn't know I'm pregnant (

I've never heard this...STM's - is this true?
The NICU the twins are in have been using the Pampers Sensitive wipes on them since they were born. We also used bought wipes with DS and never had any issues.

I received awesome samples from both Enfamil and Similac. I registered with both of them months ago specifically for the samples and coupons so I would think that's why they were sent, but like pp, it came in the mail under my maiden name. Very strange since I used my married name when I signed up. I shopped at Destination Maternity too so I'm sure they sold my info as well.
The stool softener is ordered. also got tucks pads with witch hazel, dermoplast, peri bottle and some hot or cold breast soother things. Anyone want to weigh in on some other PP recovery supplies?

I need to ask this here since I probably should've asked this months ago... It's there an app for these boards or can you use tapatalk? I tried searching (boards and app store) but couldn't come up with anything, but I thought I've seen it mentioned before.
@addisonsmom22 I bought all of it on Amazon, although Target or Walmart would prob carry most of it. The nipple soother things I know I saw at Target (lansinoh brand). I had other stuff I was buying on Amazon anyway so I just put in one order to save on trips if I couldn't find everything I wanted at one store.

@jbelle Our hospital just has paper towels and water and DH asked MIL to bring our Pamper's Sensitive Wipes instead. DD got a HORRIBLE diaper rash and freaked out the nurses because it got so bad so quickly. They said that's why they just use water and when we got home our pedi also told us to just use water for a while. We probably switched around a month old. I don't know if she was just extra sensitive, but this time around we're sticking to water and no commercial wipes for a while (and I'm telling DH not to wipe so hard in case he was wiping harder than he realized to get the icky meconium off).

Yes, yes, yes--start at least 2wks before your due date so there's enough time to prime the pump. No laxative, just softener. I use a generic version of Colace.

Mattress pad- I say go for it. We have one because our mattress is way too expensive to allow any whoopsie to happen (be it pee, squirting or spilling a drink in bed). The brand : Guardian, comfort mark II. We don't even notice it to be honest and it has been effective.
Another question here. At my newborn care class at the hospital last night they said we should keep the thermostat set to 68 while sleeping. That seems very high to me, we do 60 while sleeping and 67 while awake and home so hubs and I are just going to roast and never sleep again at 68 at night. Did the lady make a mistake with her numbers?
Here's a dumb question for ya! When getting bottles, wouldn't it make sense to buy strictly 8oz bottles but a variety if varying flow nipples? I'm just thinking that eventually the 5oz will be tossed (or stored) because I'll be needing more than 5oz... So why not just feed out of a bottle with more capacity from the get go?
The first downside is maybe that 5oz bottles take up less space in fridge/cabinet/diaper bag... But aside from that?
I had this same question... Do you plan to FF or EBF? I was told that babies won't really ever take more than 5 oz if breastmilk at a time so the bigger bottles aren't really needed. They drink a lot more at each feeding if you are using formula, and then bigger bottles would be needed.
@katieg314 Not sure where you heard that about them not taking more than 5 oz of breastmilk at a time, but DD and my nephew both took at least 6 oz of breastmilk at a time once they were 6 months old. Our pediatrician said 6 oz/feeding was pretty standard.

that is such dumb advice, sorry! (I already went off about this earlier in the thread...) Keep your thermostat at whatever temp is comfortable for you,and just dress your baby appropriately! (Eg, onesie + warm footed sleeper + warm swaddle or sleep sack, and maybe a hat for cooler temps? {I'm not sure if hats are on the "no" list for sleeping bc of SIDS.}) I hate the idea that babies are so fragile that they must be kept at a precise exact temp. See this article already referenced in this thread - https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-21537988
Where do you all get your Raspberry Tea Leaf (if you're drinking it) - is it at normal stores, or should I go to Whole Foods? Or a Tea Store?
WF would certainly have it. My regular grocery store (Giant Eagle) sells it in the "health food" section with the rest of the health food teas (Traditional Medicinals or something like that is the brand.) A tea store might have it, but make sure to specify "rasperry leaf" tea instead of just "raspberry flavored."

<br/> our newborn care nurse also cautioned to not be playing with thermostat high and low overnight like we do now. she actually said between 69 and 72 for temps, but made it more like take your number of layers and add 1 like pp said. our LO will eventually be upstairs, where it's warmer anyway, so we will probably still do the high/low thing overnight.
March Siggy Challenge .. What I miss the most during pregnancy
We keep our thermostat at around 64 during the day and 62 at night. If we are cold sometimes we turn it up to 66 but not often. I thought I read that it wasn't so much what temperature but that it didn't vary too much as infants have a hard time regulating their temperature. I don't plan on turning up the heat just for the baby. I'm a FTM though so what do I really know, lol.
Finally have a dumb question... That I did google but just want to double check a few opinions vs what doctor google said.... When you are effaced, true that you could go into labor in a few hours or you could not go into labor for weeks still? Aka effacement pretty much doesn't effect when you go into labor since it can be hours or weeks?
I've been 50% for weeks now.. I'm still working and no signs of a baby for me! She did say though to watch for heavy contractions (obviously) and for him dropping. He hasn't dropped so I'm probably gonna have a 42 weeker fine by me! Dr gave us a goal of 36 weeks so being 37 is a blessing.

It is my understanding that its in the same ball park as being dilated and still is no real indicator. I have been at 80% since 31w and now I'm almost 36w. I was checked last Sunday so almost 4 weeks after being told I was 80% and I was still there.
Maybe this isn't dumb, but certainly not separate-discussion worthy:
Do I even bother buying some newborn diapers for when we come home? Or just go with Size 1 (I'm assuming that's how sizing works, haven't really looked into it much yet)? I'm almost 38wks so he's not going to be too early, and I've heard it's not difficult to get a good stash from the hospital.
I have to ask cause it's driving me nuts
Is anyone else's stomach super loud?? It goes between a growling sound and almost like a bubbling sound....DH is accusing me of holding in giant gas bubbles until we head to bed.
Mine has always been kind of vocal, but I've definitely had more instances of the bubbling sound the last couple months. I'm pretty sure it is gassy, but I don't even try to hold it in anymore
I have a dumb question that I can't seem to get an answer for from Dr. Google. Can the baby move up during the third trimester? I always hear about babies "dropping" during the third trimester. I feel like baby girl has been pretty low this whole pregnancy but within the past week I feel like she has moved up in my abdomen. I was so smug about her being so low and now I can barely breathe this past week!

@andreabills baby flipping was my thought as well.
Thanks ladies, hopefully she flips back soon, I feel like an asthmatic 85 year old!
@Drensik, I don't think you need to put curtains up right away just for 3 months. You can always play it by ear and put some up if you feel baby isn't sleeping well in a non-curtained room.
So I was gifted a huge container of baby powder. I remember discussing on here that you aren't supposed to use it on babies anymore, is there any other purpose it might serve that I should save it for? I'm just wondering if there is any other possible use for it, or if I should add it to my BRU registry and try to return it...
Does anyone see the need for a Carseat Canopy? They seem to be more for baby girls or even moms? https://www.carseatcanopy.com. Can't you throw a blanket over the top, or do they fall off?
March Siggy Challenge .. What I miss the most during pregnancy
I am so glad we have this thread... FTM...for all the girls that have had their, babies, excluding the multiples is it "normal" to go this early, are these girls due at the beginning of March? I am not due till late, 26th, so I don't totally get it...

Alexis was a June baby, we just used the light muslin blanket to keep the sun off of her.
Someone talk to me about period like cramps. Google is telling me could be contractions, could be normal. Do contractions HAVE to wrap around to your back? My cramping is in my thighs and abdomen/ute area.
Also, been meaning to ask this to all the STMs of ftms who have had their babies. Was your labor similar to your moms at all? I know some people say that your pregnancy and labor may be similar to your moms. Only reason I wonder is because my mom had super quick labor with all of us (hour tops, just in time to make it to the hospital).

My dumb question is where should the baby be sleeping during the day?
Do most people use the crib in the baby's room once the baby is on a regular schedule?
Also, i'm assuming most people just let the baby sleep wherever in the beginning as long as they're sleeping?
Correct me if I'm wrong, I honestly have no idea!
