I don't like "boxed" chocolates (I.e. Russell stover) from Walgreens/CVS/grocery stores/wherever because I think they taste super awful--almost like plastic.

They do! Like they have been sitting in the store for years because they haven't sold--icky

Yeah, but it's kind of like finding $20 in your coat pocket that you forgot was there. Yes, it was your money all along... but you haven't had access to it, and it suddenly arrives in a lump sum like a happy surprise!

Exactly. It is like an accidental / forced savings account. Especially when it is a mortgage interest refund... because hello, it isn't like you get other debt interest refunded (Cars, credit ,etc).

I know this is relatively unpopular on this board, but...

I just can't fathom having a separate checking account from H.

ETA: it just seems more roommate-y to me, then husband and wife-y, to say : I'll pay for this, you pay for that, etc...

This probably isn't unpopular but Chuck E Cheese is the absolutely worst. I successfully avoided it for 3 1/2 years with James until last weekend when he was invited to a birthday party. It wasn't that fun, the kids didn't really play together and the moms didn't get to visit much because we had to help our kids, and despite my desperate attempts at hand washing and sanitizing James still got sick.

My goal in life is to stay as far away from Chuck E Cheese. Luckily they aren't super popular here, I think we only have 1 in the entire city.

Honestly we just haven't gotten around to it yet, we have the whole thing planned out to merge, and it just feels like such a hassle. I think that is part of meeting older, marrying older, each being home-owners separately and having to keep paying on my house for a year after marriage,etc... We share everything though, we don't consider it "his and hers" money or anything like that, we just pay all the bills out of his account (Except for daycare, because I Have the daycare FSA all set up at work), and I pay for all the fun stuff, LO stuff, daycare, etc...

But the plan is to merge it all into one household account, but then have small separate checking accounts for our individual "fun" stuff (ie, manicures and fantasyfootball). I absolutely refuse to not have SOMETHING (credit card and bank account) that is only in my name, because it is bad for your credit to not maintain something of your very own.

The archaic setup of our parent/teacher conferences boggles my mind. I have to sit in my room for 16 hours a year (4 nights, 4 hours each, after I have taught a full day, and have to teach the next day). In four hours I have no more than 5 parents (of 70 possible) come to see me. Of those, they almost always have students earning As and Bs. About 2 parents a year come to conferences for students who aren't doing well in class. Parents have access to their students' grades online 24/7, as well as what we are currently doing in class, and can email or call anytime. Why can't we move into the 21st century with our conference setup? (Maybe this isn't an UO with other teachers...)

That IS crazy. I think it is important to still have conference night that parents can plan on, but they should have to request an appt so that if you don't need to sit there for four hours, you don't have to. What a waste of time.

Yikes, I really disagree unless there is at least some small medical reason to do so. Statistically speaking, vaginal births are definitely better for mom and baby than a c section "just because."

Yes! Not to mention that a C-section is WAY more expensive, and the insurance companies have to pay the brunt of that bill. My insurance comes out of taxpayers' pockets since I work for the state. I don't think that the taxpayers should have to pay for me to have major surgery because... why? It was more convenient then pushing the baby out? If it's medically necessary, absolutely, 100%. But I think if you want to get an elective c-section, you should have to pay the difference out of pocket.

Whoo boy...totally, repectfully disagree. More dangerous to mother and baby, WAY more costly to insurance companies...nope, nope, nope.

And in regards to the seperate accounts...we have them. Love it. We never fight about money, which is awesome. I pay certain bills, DH pays certain bills, and we take turns with other stuff. I would never have a joint account.

My UO... I hate potlucks for events. If I host something...I'm welcoming you into my home and WANT to provide you with food and drink. I see BYOB, or "bring a dish to share!" and my mind goes..."tacky".

ACK! We have a dinner club each month and rotate who hosts it (group of 15 people). The host does the main dish and everyone else is assigned an appetizer, side item or dessert. I LOVE it and that way it never gets too overwhelming to host (which we do often, since we have more space).

So unpopular but I am so jealous of all the snow some states are getting!! Houston sucks! It's bright and sunny and not even that cold. Yea I know if I was actually there I would hate it but I have not seen snow in about 6 yrs!

Haha...I do this with a group of girlfriends too.It still bothers me. Whenever it's my turn to host, I really just want to tell everyone that I'll take care of it, but I don't....thats not fair to the other people who really love the potluck aspect.

A few days before I was supposed to go in to be induced, the midwife asked me if I would prefer to elect for a C-section. I said no, but I asked her if that was a common thing they ask and she said they had to ask now. Idk if it's just out here or what, but it kind of surprised me because I thought C-sections were reserved for medical necessity.

As someone who works on a contingency fee frequently (meaning I don't get paid unless I recover for my clients) I can tell you there aren't a lot of "frivolous" claims. Why would I invest 2 years of my time and thousands of dollars in expenses if I have little chance of getting paid? Juries of people like you are the ones who decide cases. You, the American juror, aren't going to award my client anything for a frivolous case.

And I think you are putting waaaay more faith in corporate America to pull bad products than is warranted. Ford, for example, made an economic decision not to redesign the Pinto fuel tank because it was cheaper to settle lawsuits where people were seriously injured or killed than to fix the damn product.

I hear ya! We call ours "student led conferences" now. So you have to set up a bunch of centres for them to show their parents. And then you're their to discuss they progress report and IPP. It mostly just ends up being an evening of your students (and their siblings) acting like wild animals and tearing your classroom apart. Ours goes from after classes to 730pm. The parents in the last appointment always, without fail, want to talk your face off about something completely unrelated to school. It's such a long day.

I do see your point. But in this specific case, its a user error issue that people have blown WAY out of proportion.

As far as frivolous lawsuits go, it may not happen as much in corporate America, but between my husband working with law enforcement and my friends who work in the medical field, I hear about juries giving awards to frivolous lawsuits more than I thought actually happened. And from a justice perspective, it bothers me.

"Hear about" juries giving frivolous awards. That's the part that annoys the bejesus out of me. That is plain old fashioned propaganda from the US Chamber of Commerce and insurance lobby. Do you know of specific cases where juries awarded damages that were unfair? The rumor milk =/= evidence of an actual problem with the US legal system. It costs tens of thousands of dollars to sue a doctor that effs up. No one is going to bring that claim unless there is some merit to it.

Ha! It's just us and a bunch of our good friends and an excuse to get together once a month and binge eat and have some drinks

We do a different theme each month- for example I did a make-your-own-pizza night and I made homemade dough and prepared a bunch of fancy toppings and everyone brought coordinating dishes and we gorged ourselves. Last week we had a southern theme with pulled pork, cornbread, greens, etc. It's a delicious way to keep up with friends all over the city and in the suburbs.

I have been trying to start a supper club with our group of friends. There are only four couples. I really need to try harder. I think it would be so much fun.
