I wanted to like this, but no. I know plenty of working mothers who don't feel guilty and for whom it wasn't a difficult choice. And not all of us thought about those choice in 11th grade. Hell, I didn't care about kids in grad school or for years after. I think it's fine to acknowledge the struggles of some, but problematic to paint this image that all mothers of a category have the same experiences or struggles. They don't. And it kind of perpetuates this notion that all working mothers are so woe-begotten or divided on their choice. What was with the line about no lunch or coffee breaks? That describes no working mom I know.
i am in sales and today i visited a customer that i haven't seen since my bump popped out. the first words out of her mouth were, "wow your chest is huge!". um, thanks?
@loherrim - ha! I don't sound like that *at all*, lol. I'm fact, I do t sound like that so bad that we don't want to use the name Clark because I say "Claaahhhkk" and it's awful, lol.
@lizardbreath14 - he's beautiful!
Speaking of pups... Has anyone else's pup been attached at their hip?? My dog won't leave my side... And just climbed on to the couch and basically sat on my lap. Too much.

YES. As I type this he's just staring at me adoringly. He follows me everywhere and he always wants to sleep curled up next to me. He cries outside the garage door when I leave in the morning He's always been a mama's boy, but damn dude lol!

This sounds just like my dog. My cat has been a lot more cuddly and loving since around the time we found out I was pregnant but now all the sudden my dog wont leave me alone. I love my dog to death but he isn't a small dog (not huge either though) and its starting to get annoying. He has to be literally up in my face as in inches away from my face staring at me. If he is sleeping its right up against me and his head on my stomach all of the time. I kinda wonder if he can hear her moving around in my stomach. He has never slept with his head on my stomach until I was able to feel her moving around and now does it all the time.

I made homemade pizza for supper and it was yummy! I ate WAY too much and now I feel like a total hippo. I'm gonna be Two Ton Tilly by the end if I don't cut that out!
@joules235 do you know what university in NZ he would study at? Would he get to pick?
I'm obviously a little biased but think NZ would be a amazing place for you guys to go, especially if you are into the outdoors. It's a great country for road tripping and outdoor activities. You can drive from coast to coast in less than a day. The downside is the cost of living compared to the US, but that is probably going to be an issue in any of the places you mention. I think at least the US dollar is stronger against the kiwi, as opposed to the euro or pound.
If you decide NZ is a strong contender I'd be totally happy to give you as much insight as I can.
Even though we are technically 'away from home' right now DH and I would love to go and live in europe for a year. Probably either France, Germany or Switzerland. It would be dependent on him getting a job/contract over there (hes a software developer). For now the idea is just lurking in the backs of our minds. Maybe in another year or so.
@joules 235 I have heard from many other people that most countries will allow dual citizenship however the US doesn't recognize them and if living in the US, you must claim one. That was what I was told a few years ago when looking into a US/Thai citizenship. What I am not full sure is if the claiming dual while living abroad how much the US will recognize it then.
DD likes me to 'wock' her for her naps, so I went to her room wrapped her up and sat in the rocking chair then kissed her on the forehead. Obviously there was a buncha static cuz it gave us both a pretty good zap! She clapped her hand to her forehead and said 'ow!' Which made me laugh a little too hard!
@joules235 Sorry about the job falling through! But this sounds so exciting if it does come to pass. I'm a lil jealous...
I just sliced the side of my foot open on a staple getting ready to help dh out with the snow...now I am afraid to walk on it for a bit (not to mention it stings!!! ( )
THUNDERSLEET!!! I'm working from home during the storm and saw a huge flash followed by the loudest and longest rumble I've ever heard. DH thought a train derailed (we live near the tracks). It took us a little while to realize it was lightening and thunder. As soon as it was over it started sleeting like crazy. The lightening must have struck very close.
I don't think you would need health insurance, we have a good national system. Generally the only reason you would have health insurance in NZ is if you wanted to go thru the private system instead of the public system for some reason (e.g. to avoid a waist list for some surgeries). Most people just go public. We strongly considered taking a trip home to have the baby. But with the cost of flights and then thinking about switching care providers, plus needing to pay health insurance here up till 8 months or whatever anyway we decided against it.
As far as car seats I'm not sure? A lot of our cars are Japanese imports if that helps (lots of Toyotas!). Other than the steering wheel being on the other side of the car I haven't really noticed any big differences between cars in the US and NZ. I'm a FTM though so car seats haven't really been on my radar. Here's some info about care seat safety standards: https://www.babystuff.co.nz/Articles/About+Car+Seat+Safety+Standards+in+New+Zealand.html
In terms of citizenship. My husband is a dual NZ/US citizen and was born in NZ. His mother just registered him with the US as 'born abroad'. That was 31 years ago though so I'm not sure how much things have changed. But I know dual citizenship is still allowed by both countries because I just become one recently. When we have LO we will just register her with NZ as born abroad in the US and she'll have dual citizenship too.
One thing I will say about cost of living is that NZ is much more expensive to travel thru than to live in. Things like adventure activities, drinking and eating out are expensive. But rents, groceries etc. are not so crazy. Especially if you find somewhere to live where you can have a veggie garden, it's a great climate for that type of thing. It's also easier to buy things like free range eggs and all of our dairy and meat is grass fed.
Another question. If we have out third baby abroad would they have dual citizenship or just be a us citizen?
The short answer is maybe.
You can have dual citizenship as an American, although I've been told that the only country that it is recognized with is Israel. I think if you want to get them US citizenship, they'd have to renounce any foreign citizenship. Most people who are dual citizens, like my dad, had their American citizenship first and applied for a second citizenship at a later point.
I vote that we start a new ss aw thread tomorrow and in the title put "valentines edition" so people can aw what they did or got or whatever.
All in favour?

Getting a 1 year work visa is pretty easy in NZ, I don't think you would have any trouble. Check this link out: https://www.immigration.govt.nz/migrant/stream/work/worktemporarily/requirements/
