  • I also believe that there are other exterestrial life forms out in the universe. Funny, I was talking to my coworker about the pyrimids and said of course aliens had something to do with it!

My UO is I'm so over the obsession with body images. We, as Americans, put way to much energy on how we look to other people. If you are healthy, your size shouldn't matter. No one can be the same size. That BL contestant is way too skinny. She's what, 5'5'? She needs to be at a heathy weight, not the skinniest weight.

UO: I'm not a fan of The Big Bang Theory. Seems like a lot of people love this show but I don't think it's funny at all.

I loathe The Big Bang Theory.  As if scientists needed another avenue for reinforcing the "science is for nerds!!!" stereotype.  I can't watch for longer than 2 minutes before I get agitated.

Have I encountered people like that in science? Sure.  Are they *everyone* that I interact with on a daily basis?  NO.  Do even scientists look askance at those like Leonard?  Abso-fucking-lutely.

They're not even smart nerds...I despise that show.

Not sure if this is unpopular or really how to phrase it but I hate conventional societal ideas of polite interactions. You don't have to talk to me if we're in the elevator together and don't know each other. Yep, I have lunch. Yep, it's cloudy. Leave me alone. Please, for the love of all that's holy, if there are seven of us in the elevator and I'm in the back and you're all men, don't turn expectantly and smile and extend your arm for me to go first. It's awkward and weird and makes no sense: you're at the front, you go first. If I'm walking somewhere with purpose, I don't need your quip about "Wow, in a hurry? HAHAHAHA!!!" Seriously, don't talk. Please don't come and randomly ask me about my family/friends/personal struggle while I'm trying to work. If I want to talk, I'll go to my actual friends/family/therapist.

Sorry. I really hate fake, forced interactions.

    ***************end quote*********

This so much @mauibliss! I hate to have small talk with people I don't know or don't care to talk too. It's so forced and uncomfortable. Especially when they ask personal questions. Awkward!
  • I'm not a fan of the following actors:

    Will Farrell
    Steve Carell
    Vince Vaughn
    Ben Stiller

I recognize that they are fantastic comedians and I've seen just about all of their movies, but for some reason they all just make my skin crawl.  :/
Excepting Vince Vaughn - I totally agree

I HATE taking my bra off. Mostly every woman I know tells me their bra comes off the second they get home from work. Not me. I think it feels so weird to have my bra off. I don't like the feeling of my nipples against a t-shirt or whatever I'm wearing. They feel much more comfortable covered by a thick padded bra. I don't even take my bra off to go to bed. The only time my bra comes off is when I take a shower or when it's sexy time.
This. So much this. The only time my bra is off is when I'm showering, bathing, or swimming.
People sleep in bras??? I literally had no idea.  Maybe this is one of those rare times when I'm glad to be in the genetically less endowed category? Mine comes off the second I get home.

I don't sleep with a bra, but with tank tops that have a built-in bra.
  • @Ally1986 Please don't give up the puppy! Every time I see your sig, I'm thinking.. I want that puppy!! So cute.

Regarding the Biggest Loser... Yea, she looks like she could gain a little weight. But I hate that people are "diagnosing" her with an eating disorder. You don't know.. you aren't in her food life. Maybe she did lose it in a healthy fashion.. Maybe not. I don't know and I'm not going to pretend I do..

Society is so crazy. They photoshop all the models to look paper thin. Then, when someone attains it, they bash them for being thin... You can't win.

Just be healthy! It's not about the # on the scale.

I think it's crazy that people have their panties all bunched up about the latest Biggest Loser winner because she's 105 lbs.

Losing hundreds of pounds in a matter of weeks IS fucking crazy. Working out for hours every day and eating low calories IS crazy. Why now?

They are upset because she is below her "healthy weight range" and that is like a big "no-no" on The Biggest Loser.

ETA: I watch the show and I think she looks disgusting now. She went way too far to win the money and I hope for her sake she gains 10-15 pounds back.

I agree that she needs to gain some weight back. I'm one of those people that thinks she looks really unhealthy. DH and I watch that show together (while eating pints of Ben and Jerry's, mind you) and when she came out, I was like "whoooooa she doesn't look very healthy" and DH goes "well what would you do if there was $250,000 on the line?"

    Touché DH, touché.

I don't have much on my computer, because it's a total POS, so I re-sized but lost the animation. But I guess there's enough moving around on the pages here, anyway.
You don't need a computer program. When you are in your sig edit area click the <> button. One you are there you will see the <http//:whateverGIFSITEyouchose.com>. Before the last > just type "height=200 width=200" (without the quotes) for a small square or other numbers depending on what you want. Like a big rectangle would be "height=300 width=450".
You have no idea how much you just changed my life.

I'm not sure if mine is an UO of FFFC, but I absolutely hate.... H. A. T. E. the stupid cat posts about "caturday" and all that shit. Cats make me angry. And since I have yet to meet one that's not a complete asshole, I'm going to continue to hate them. All of them.
I LOVE the Caturday posts! I started doing them, I don't know if people did them before me. I'm not going to try to convince you otherwise because you're entitled to your opinion. But if you hate the Caturday threads then don't open it because you might actually laugh at how funny they are :)
Some of them actually do make me laugh. I normally don't open them since I dislike the animal so much, but I decided to the other day since it was getting so much traffic, and I actually smiled at a few of them. I just have a severe disliking to them.

We should start a dog thread. Now THOSE make me laugh! I wish there was a good catchy title for that... Dogurday just doesn't have the same ring to it.

My former boss was a contestant on Sean's season of The Bachelor, and she left because she said it was the most awkward, unauthentic interactions of her life. I'm not sure what else she expected, but I was proud of her for not just staying for the potential fame.

ETA: She also told me how they'd do rose ceremonies oddly late at night, and how they had nothing to do except chat together.

    That's mah show!!!!
Me too! But to be honest, I don't know why I like it either. I find myself rolling my eyes a lot when I watch it but it's like a car crash... I just can't look away.

I know why I like it.  It's my analytical side and the armchair psychologist in me.  I know what ABC is doing to those people.  They ask them to fill out applications and list their deepest fears, which they then exploit to bring them "closer" to the bachelor/bachelorette.  One girl admitted she was terrified of deep water so they had her and the bachelor tour a museum of statues - deep under water wearing diving gear.  It's fascinating to watch them react afterwards.  And without fail, they all say the exact same clichés:  "This is just like falling in love!  You have to let go of control and take the plunge!"  or "This journey down the ravine is just like this journey I'm taking with The Bachelor.  We're navigating our way through the dark together!"

I also like to watch the contestants fight among themselves.  After many seasons I've learned you NEVER want to out the bad behavior of your fellow contestants to the Bachelor or Bachelorette, because it usually backfires big time.

Also, I would totally be a contestant on the show just so ABC could pay for me to travel the world, go on awesome adventures, and give me all the alcohol I want.

I am not ashamed of my fandom.  Flame away, ladies.

Absolutely no flames from me. I'm with you 110%.

  • Omg I'm so excited to see other ladies who don't like having their bras come off! I don't understand liking them to be flapping around, rolled over on, and general nipple chafing. Nooo gimme mah bra. It's even a godsend for sleeping, because normal PJs twist up and cut off my circulation. Not my bra!

You cannot lose 30% of your bodyweight in 3 months in a healthy fashion. Not possible. It may not be anorexia or bulemia, but she has some kind of disorder with either food or her workouts, or a combo of the two. She reminds me of my former coworker that dropped a bunch of weight because she ate nothing and worked out 3-4 hours a day. Then she would not eat and work out more if she gained a pound. (and then she would wonder where her daughter got her addictive/obsessive personality from. Huh. I wonder.)

Don't get me started on the photoshop crap. They are contributing to things like this happening- women chasing an ideal that doesn't actually exist.

Seriously, Photoshop should be banned on models. I've heard of this thing where girls are trying to lose weight so their thighs don't touch.. Just ridiculous.

My main point was knowing her "diagnosis". But yea, I know you usually leave one addiction for another...

RE: Biggest Loser - I am a huge fan of this show. Yes losing weight that fast isn't necessarily realistic, but these people are SICK. They are obese with other health issues and losing weight is saving their lives. Drastic times call for drastic measures. I really believe the Biggest Loser has saved many lives (not just those on the show, but family members and others at home inspired by the show).

Saying that though, Rachel went too far. She looked so good before the finale, but she looked like skin and bones at the finale. She appeared to have lost muscle mass and overall just looked sickly. Actually, the other two finalists were super skinny too (not emaciated like Rachel). I feel like usually the biggest losers are much more muscular than any of the three finalists were this year. Hopefully Biggest Loser can bounce back from this, because clearly I love this show!

  • @bbg676 That was excellent info. I was in the "meh, she doesn't look too thin to me" camp, but not anymore. I do think that she is in a tough position, having been on a show like BL, and having people everywhere criticize her whether she is heavy or thin. But like you said, I hope that she has a good support system to get her through the next few months as she gets in a normal routine.

The latest "fit fad" I heard about (not sure how long it has been a thing) was bikini bridge (equally as stupid as thigh gap):
    image
  • @crazycornball No one on my FB did, but I've seen it on Pinterest. This particular pic is from google.
  • Seriously, I actually appreciated your information but 1) a fair number of the points had already been made and 2) it was an enormous wall of text within a conversation about Disney World. She's too thin by a lot of standards. We got it.

@bbg676 - New or old trend. thigh gap. hip bones. collar bones. all bones. just ridiculous.

As person who uses the DSM and has worked in a children's psych unit, your info was appreciated. It's sad to hear youth's ideas about what "skinny, healthy, pretty" is..society is not a self-esteem builder. IMO.
