  • All your strapless haters, it is because you didn't have a Maggie dress.  I have double d's and I assure you I was supported to the max!  Dress of steel!

I didn't have a Maggie (not even sure what that brand is!) I had an off the rack dress from David's bridal that was $100. I just seriously lucked out big time. But I have DDs also and they held up great! I had a Victoria's Secret corset under so that could have been why.

I am not really sure if this qualifies but I am so sick and tired of people telling me I "will understand once I'm a mom."

No, if I make plans a month a head and say I will be there at such and such time I will be there. I will plan my day and time around my kid and the schedule. I will not constantly use them as an excuse. Granted there are times that are unavoidable. But a screaming one year old can surely be calmed down by daddy...

Also I am sick of hearing of how I won't want to leave the baby with anyone or do anything. I would go fucking mad! Just because you experienced it one way does not mean I will experience it the same.

Why can't people stop making excuses, and just say "I can't wait to see you as a mom" rather than telling me how "I will be and feel."
DH is getting very tired of this as well! I haven't heard it too much, but he has a couple times. We are first-time parents, but we have VERY strong ideas on what we expect of our children as they grow, and what we expect of ourselves, etc. We have seen a lot of right and wrong over the years of watching people we know have and raise children. We have spent years having these discussions. So many try to tell us we'll do things differently, we don't get it because we don't have kids yet, and so on. Delivering a child does not bestow on anyone the ultimate knowledge of how to be a perfect parent; nor were you part of our conversations regarding what our parenting methods will be. I'm just waiting for one of our parents to start up with this, they'll be shut down very quickly.

  • While we are on the subject of weddings, I just don't get all of the big hooplah over big weddings. I must have just been born without that particular girl gene. DH and I eloped, without telling anyone, just the two of us, on the beach, and I wouldn't have it any other way. We did have a reception the next summer at our families' insistence, but it was only a handful of close friends and our families.

Not that there's anything wrong with big weddings, if that's what you're into, I just can't wrap my mind around spending thousands and tens of thousands of dollars on this one day! It just blows my mind. And I find 99% of wedding part pictures cheesy. But, again, I'm pretty sure I was just born without the gene required to appreciate these things.

My UO is potentially really flammable: It's terrible for your health, it's a smelly disgusting habit, etc. but sometimes I think a man looks really hot when he smokes. When DH and I first met, he smoked cigarettes and even though I am so grateful he quit for so many reasons, I have to admit I found ot sexy in the beginning. I know, I know. WTF.
i can't get on board with the smoking is sexy thing, but i will say that i looove when DH has beer breath. i could make out with him forever after he's had a good beer.
@Christinaruth74 - I totally agree! Why is beer breath (the good kind) such a f#*@ing turn-on?!

I get it.  Ours would probably have been smaller if not for input from immediate family (and as my parents funded it, I felt the need to consider their input).  But it was still small, fairly casual, and outdoors, and we cut costs where we could because I just couldn't understand the need for all the little things that just ate up money.

And @pistolpackinmomma, just had to say that my wedding was also outdoors in August in Ohio!

  • OK I thought someone forgot about UO today because I was looking for the usual title.

My UO. I don't get why people wear shoes in the house. And I don't mean if you're going in and out or about to head out for the day or night. I'm talking slipping on flip flops to go from the couch to the kitchen to make a sandwich. The sound of a flip flop flipping and flopping around every step you take is annoying.

    It's a BOY

  • OK my UO is pretty lame, but I'm one of those people who like the following: conversation hearts, candy corn, and black liquorice. Usually people are strongly on one side or the other about all of the above, and I fully admit, I love all the candies!! I do not discriminate. I will admit though, that preggo food aversions turned me off to candy corn this year, but I'm confident I'll get it back next Oct.

Slippers are an exception. In fact if you're going to wear "shoes" then slippers are the way to go. They were made to be worn in doors to keep you comfortable. Flip flops are not! Imo. and all you can hear is the shoe flopping against the heel every single step that is taken. Gahhhhhh it drives me batty

DH does this too. I grumble about it because it's his boots and they hold dirt and rocks and it's annoying. MIL got me a sign (because FIL does it and drives her bonkers too) that says "life is full of choices, take off your shoes or clean the floors" and I love it. I will say now that we've moved to a nicer house he does better about taking his shoes off.

  • I wear shoes in the house 99% of the time.  Otherwise my sciatic nerve feels like someone is stabbing it with a knife.  But I wear birkenstock clogs that I really only wear in the house... so they're almost like slippers.

MIL has to do that too. I count them as slippers. She also only wears them in the house not outside so I see them as different I guess.

  • My UO: Since we're on the subject of wedding dresses, I don't understand how any bride (whether you are paying for it or someone else is) buys a $2K+ wedding dress. You are literally in the dress for a matter of hours and I could never justify spending that much $ on a dress. I may get flamed on that one, but eh.

    @Peaceb0ne - #firstworldproblem
I'm with you! I ended up buying my dress at a bridal consignment shop. I looked it up at the time, and it sold normally for over $12,000 (totally out of my budget) and I bought it on payment plan for $750. I still thought that was expensive, but there was no denying that the dress was the one. It fit perfectly that I didn't need tailoring of any sort. I'm always recommending that shop!

Valentine's Day is dumb and I'm willing to bet that most people who take it super seriously haven't the first clue of who St. Valentine was. I don't know why people care how much someone else spends on their wedding. Unless, they majorly splurged on their dress and photographer/videographer and are feeding their guests chicken fingers and tater tots with a cash bar. Then you're a horrible person.

DH's cousin went super cheap with everything. I mean we DIY'd as much as we could but their reception was at a local college hall. They served cafeteria food. I shit you not they had the same chicken tenders that they serve for lunch. My mom works on the campus and said that they could have had much nicer food for not much more. We ended up leaving the reception to go eat because the food was not filling at all, or good. There ended up being a huge group of us at the same restaurant eating. To each their own but we thought it was kinda funny that many of us went out for dinner right after leaving. They had a dry wedding. Ours wasn't completely dry but no open bar/kegs because we didn't want the responsibility that comes with serving alcohol. And our families have issues with too much. My mom was pissed I didn't want a kegger but I didn't want to go to jail when someone did something stupid. We settled on cans in a cooler because it couldn't be traced. But we had damn good food!

I 100% agree with all of this. My MIL is totally on the Pandora train right now, and she got me a Pandora bracelet for Christmas with a little baby carriage on it. Well, sometime after she bought it but before Christmas, FIL asked DH if he thought I would like a Pandora bracelet. DH's response was "Definitely not" (good boy. :)  ) Unfortunately, it had already been purchased, and that message got back to MIL, who still gave me the bracelet, but told me about 5 times that day that I can take it back if I don't like it, and I spent the whole day assuring her that I like it.

I actually prefer the look of the bracelet without very many charms on it. My only issue with Pandora is that if you actually fill up the whole bracelet with charms, you suddenly have like $500 on your wrist, and if you're going to spend that much on a piece of jewelry, IMO, it should have gemstones on it. :)

Plus, the lady at the jewelry store said the leather Pandora bracelets aren't strong enough to hold more than about 5 charms, which just seems ridiculous to me also.
