@cfreymc : the only trouble with your last post is that the hard drugs like cocaine, meth & heroin are drugs that can capture the "just curious" very easily.
Some kid in HS or college that is at a party & tries it can spark a very crazy addiction. That's what happened to me. One of my coworkers offered me a line & I just tried it. Bam, occasional use becomes regular use. Then you start using like it's your morning coffee or evening night cap. Then you start using more just avoid feeling sick. Build a tolerance & you start looking for other, more satisfying methods to deliver your high. It becomes a very very bad habit very quickly.
Reading about the PSH situation made me sick to my stomach. There is something about the hard drugs crack and heroin that I just don't get and I can't wrap my head around that kind of pain that someone would want to ecape from. Heroin is so scary, it is slowly taking over small towns like the one I am from. Whatever works...we need to figure something out. It is ruining a lot of lives and towns are crumbling due to this epidemic and Ohio is being hit particularly hard. @PrimRoseMama my mind is blown by your confession and major props for your recovery and resolve to stay sober.
My only theory about tackling addiction is trying to maybe address the demons with therapy & vigilance from parents. However, some of my friends who struggled were able to hide it from everyone. You get very skilled at hiding.
I was outted by my boss at work who threatened to tell my husband & call the cops if I didn't confess all. She did me a solid & even though I was angry-- it was the best thing she could have done.
Prevention is a mystery? The dungeon of the mind, self-loathing & addiction is a very very ugly beast.
PrimRoseMama Congrats on your sobriety and thank you for sharing. I know quite a few people who struggle with addictions and your story is an inspiration. I am so happy for you that you have come so far. I hope the same for the people in my life struggling.
I am already over the coverage of the Olympics. Mainly because they won't stop talking about the oevel of terrorist attack threats. It's in freaking Sochi, Russia, WHAT DID THEY EXPECT???
@Prim--you are so amazingly strong to get the help you needed and get your life back on track! I was even torn on voting yes or no on legalizing pot here in CO, to be honest--I get that the legalization is a lot about using resources normally used to prosecute minor offenses for a better use, but I think becoming a mom made me slightly more conservative (I'm fairly liberal)--I just don't like the idea of pot being super available and out there and easier for kids to get, or the possibility of there being more drivers under the influence out there (I don't know the research on this one and whether the legalization increases it more or not). I guess that it's just up to us as parents to teach our kids what is acceptable and what's not, just like we would with alcohol or other legal "drugs."
UO--I LOVE me some Uggs--I live in Uggs in the winter (two pairs boots, and a pair of the slippers/moccasins that I think mer is talking about) and flip flops in the summer. And Minnetonka moccasins in the fall I've got my bases covered! Comfy shoes FTW. I don't think I have worn heels in nearly three years.

Of course. And I have tried some harder drugs, I was lucky to not get hooked. I just don't think that decriminalizing will make a person who would not have tried it otherwise, try it.

I haven't bought eggs (aside from being out at breakfast) in 8 years. I hate the egg production business...so sad. All of our chickens are pampered and free range
In Oregon, decriminalizing MJ means that having less of an ounce is a "violation" (a ticket), where having more is still quite illegal. IMO that's a good way to stop wasting resources arresting minor drug users (especially the POC because it's pretty much a fact our justice system is racist), and instead only go after the dealers.
The war on drugs has NOT worked and all it's done is put a lot of young men in prison. I don't know the right strategy but it's not the one we have, so something needs to change.
Agree. Most come out of lock up in a worse way than when they went in. Also, you can totally get loaded in prison.
I judge vegetarians who don't eat meat for ethical reasons, but don't buy cage-free eggs.
I don't get people who go vegan/vegetarian/fillintheblank-free for health reasons and drink alcohol and smoke cigarettes. (Yes I know someone like this)

I'm of the opinion that you should do whatever you think is best for your family without giving a rats ass about what other people think. They aren't there.
You want to CIO -- good for you, do it. Extenction? Fine do it. Up to you, your kid.
You don't want to CIO -- Good for you, don't.
You want to BLW -- Good for you, do it.
You don't want to BLW -- Good for you, don't.
You want to tummy sleep -- Good for you, do it.
You don't want to tummy sleep -- Good for you, don't.
You want to SAH (and are able) -- Good for you, do it.
You don't want to SAH -- Good for you, don't.
You want to vaccinate -- Good for you, do it
You don't want to vaccinate -- too fucking bad do it anyway it's the right thing to do.
You can't vaccinate (medical condition) -- Pray/cross fingers/hope more people vaccinate than don't so that herd immunity isn't sacrificed.
I'm also not going to pretend I don't judge... I know I get judged and I don't care. I make decisions based on what is best for my children/family... You don't like it... here's where you can get off...
I think people worry too much (not just here in general) about what everyone else thinks and instead of having discussions there's too much arguing and butthurt. You do you, and I'll do me... I'll like you either way, unless you don't vaccinate for selfish reasons like you think it causes autisim, then I probably won't talk to you anymore.
This rant brought to you by a FB friend who is batshit crazy.
I agree with some of this but not all. I have worked with way too many dysfunctional families who have used the " it's what is best for my family " excuse to justify things that truly aren't best for their children and can have both harmful short term and long term effects. It may be good for the parent but it's not always good for the child. This is not in reference to one specific thing but more towards the whole " it's what is best for my family " line. I have seen it used as an excuse or justification all too often. Just my experience.
That's fine. But I'll bet at the time they thought it was best for their family. Hindsight is 20/20.
I think the circus is cruel and I refuse to take my children to it. My kids are always disappointed that they don't get to go when it's in town, but oh, well. They'll live.
@mainerocks yep. We have around 50 we sell the eggs we don't eat at a market for 5 bucks a dozen. I think we almost break even on feed etc this way but I've never actually done the math. My SO has had chickens since he was a kid and enjoys collecting different breeds and what not.
We have one chicken that I wish would just die (I know that sounds awful) We've had him for 7 years and he's an ass and hates me. Mean chicken.
@Carrie3102 in some cases, they still think it's what is best for their family even when it is so blatantly obvious to everyone else that it isn't. They just can't see outside of where they're at. Obviously that's some extreme cases but it always starts with the " well this is what's best for us." I always want to ask them- what's best for whom? You? Or the child in question?
(Is it who? Whom? Grammar loving friends, weigh in?)
UGH!!!
Ok fair enough. I forget sometimes that there are those idiots out there who don't have their kids' best interest at heart... I just have a hard time imagining that, and I forget your line of work...
However, I stand by my statement (excluding bsc parents). Parents have to do what they believe is best for their family. Outsiders can judge all they want, but they are likely seeing the situation through rose colored glasses.

Whom. The way I remember is with the letter m. If you can replace it with 'him', (or 'her') then it's whom. You would say What's best for him? Not, What's best for he?
Like, you'd say: Whom do you love? Because the answer is: I love him. (Not I love he.)
No. No friggin way do I want hard drugs legalized, or even decriminalized. Sorry I don't want joe blow pedaling his bullshit to my kids.
MJ legalize it, tax it and regulate it, just like alcohol and cigs, but the other, no fucking way. Sorry. I know what addiction looks like and I want no part of that being available to folks legally.
I have to go to Freeport today and pick up some things at LLBean. I'll have Finn and Thomas with me. Parking in Freeport is such a major PITA and who knows if Tom-Baby will even cooperate? I think that LLBean should have designated parking for parents with young kids.
Why stop at LLBean? I think all stores should have parking for parents with young kids... I get anxiety when I have to take them both to the grocery store, Parker is a horse! Having to manage them both from the back of the parking lot to the store makes me want to spit nails.

@Asbromle, I am cracking up that you have a mean chicken, lol! What does he do that makes him mean?
I am not touching the drug debate, but I will add my two cents into the Ugg debate. I like Uggs, in the winter and fall, but it drives me demented when I see people wearing them in 60+ degree weather, and its absolutely stupid when I see girls wearing Uggs with a mini skirt...if its warm enough for a mini skirt, you don't need Uggs, and if its cold enough for Uggs, put some damn clothes on!
@jackson290721 I like them but they're a pain sometimes. They don't always like to go back into their "home" at night but we have to put them away or animals will get them and that's sad.
When I have to put them away alone, like if my SO is on a trip somewhere, it's really funny because it's like they know they can take advantage of me and they make it 10 times harder to be put away. Some go in on their own and others are stubborn.
Dccornel I wore boots this morning so my feet were warm and cozy too. Uggs just don't do it for me. Especially not when people where them all day in my office, which I've seen done on occasion. What!?
I don't own Uggs. I also don't own skinny jeans. Not that I have anything against either, I just don't own them lol
I don't like them for myself but don't mind them on others (except in my business office). One other exception, and I think the reason I was turned off from Uggs from the start - when they first came out, I saw pics of celebs in LA wearing them on 65 degree days. Um, what? This just totally goes again my Maine brain. Boots are for cold weather, snow, etc. Boots in the warm sunshine = silly.
I basically live in LA (an hour north) and I love my uggs - on a cold day -because my other shoes are flip flops! BUT- I HATE IT when I see people wear uggs and shorts or skirts... So so ridiculous!

The problem is that Joe Blow (lol at the name) is already peddling that shit to your kids. Its a fantasy to think that the illegality means pack of access
Yes but if I catch him and call the cops he goes to fucking jail... where as in that world he would not... see there's a difference.
These drugs are not ok. They ruin lives and entire families.
LLBean doesn't even have a parking lot right next to the store. They have this small one which is a short walk, but that one is always full (of course). So then you have to drive around looking for a spot and then hoof it in. Sometimes you have to walk 15 minutes and cross multiple streets just to get in the store. I have to pick up a sleeping bag, a backpack, a headlamp, and wool socks and carry them back to the car with my kids in tow. And I can't use the double stroller bc their doors aren't wide enough to accommodate it. So annoying.

No one ever knows anyone's full situation, for sure. It's easy for outsiders to judge and have opinions. No one really ever knows the full story.
I feel fortunate that for the most part, other people's opinions just roll off my back. There are a few things that get to me but for the most part, if someone tells me off because they don't agree with something that I say, I can shrug it off. I don't get butthurt over much on the internet.
Strangely one of the things that does get me is comments regarding me nursing. Like when someone IRL told me that something must be " wrong " with my breast milk because DS has asthma even after over a year of nursing and DD is sick so much even though she's EBF. I almost cried because of that ridiculous comment. So silly.
That person is lucky they were talking to you and not me... I have a nice way with words when I'm truly heated.

@sdtchica13 he chases me around and spurs me. He's made me bleed on several occasions and he's not even a regular sized chicken. He's a banni chicken which means he's half the size. He chased me to my car once and tried to get inside with me in order to continue his attack. He's a very beautiful chicken but he's so damn mean.
FYI banni chicken eggs make the best hardboiled eggs ever because you can just stick the whole thing in your mouth.
@sdtchica13 Birds can be really mean! My first job was at a petting zoo and we had this male duck named Wanda (yes, you read that right). Every time you went in his pen, he would run up to you and attack you and chase you out. He was such a dick. He was a duck dick.
@Asbromle usually I would but Liam needs a new backpack and everything online other than the fugly pink print packs are on back order. Ridiculous. Also, Owen has a list of supplies that he needs for camping with his scout pack this weekend that I just got on Tuesday.
On the drug issue, the things my brother did to myself and to my family while an addict were atrocious and I can't get behind decriminalizing hard drugs. Should they have to go to rehab as part of their sentence? I think so. I only know that my brother didn't get clean until he landed in jail.
My UO: If you're going to be pissed at someone on Facebook but won't call them out on it and just do it passive aggressively because you're afraid to start something or you are worried about what people will say against you, then don't bother posting in the first place. Ok, I have one sure to rile up the J13 crew. It blows my mind when people buy and are able to consume, extra large caffeinated beverages like Venti coffees or Big Gulps. I'm more tired than I've ever been in my life. And I get the need for daily caffeine. But holy shit, that much caffeine in one day is gross to me and makes me feel awful.
