Trying to Get Pregnant

NBR: No Poo

I want to switch to "no poo" but there is nowhere around me that sells raw honey or coconut oil. Does anyone have any suggestions? I prefer brick and mortar stores over online.

Re: NBR: No Poo

  • I'm not really sure what this is, even after I googled it. Is it a shampoo or a frizz product? Also what do the raw honey and coconut oil have to do with it? You can buy coconut oil at target, if you have one near you. I buy everything from amazon prime so I'm probably the worst to give advice

  • It's a shampoo without harmful chemicals.

Check out MamaNatural. I think she has a No Poo recipe. :)

I buy coconut oil on amazon.

  • Lol! No poo is literally no shampoo. You wash your hair using natural shampoos instead of the ones on store shelves that are filled with sulfates and carcinogens.

I should have said that I want to switch to A DIFFERENT no poo, because I already do it. I currently use baking soda and apple cider vinegar but my scalp is getting dry (not to mention that the pH levels aren't balanced). I am wanting to switch to a recipe that uses raw honey and coconut oil.

Are you sure nobody near you sells pure coconut oil? I get mine at my local supermarket. I know Trader Joe's sells it too. Check near the olive oils, this is the most common brand I see, I'm fairly certain I have even seen it at Walmart:

Not sure about the raw honey, I get mine from a local market. Do you have any farmer's markets in your area you can check out? I don't use either of these products as an alternative shampoo though. I like to make a paste out of baking soda and use that. Sometimes I add essential oils just for fragrance or flake control. I follow up with an apple cider vinegar rinse (mix 1 part water and 1 part ACV in a spray bottle and spritz all over, then rinse) and then I condition with the honey. I put the coconut oil on my hair last, I don't rinse it out so I use sparingly so my hair isn't overly oily. I've also used extra virgin olive oil but my hair seems to like the coconut oil better.

ETA: Aaaand now I see your reply where you say you already do what I'm suggesting, LOL.

  • My local grocery store sells these things. Do you have a Trader Joe's? Most major grocery stores now carry coconut oil since there's a greater demand for it. If your store doesn't have raw honey, check out a nearby farmers' market.

I was under the impression that the stuff at Walmart had additives in it. I'll check it out when I go shopping tomorrow. And I am a flake and just remembered that my great uncle has his own hive. Maybe I'll give him a call and see if I can get some from him...if not I will try trader joes. I don't live close to one but I think that there is one down the street from my son's eye doctor in St. Louis.

Is it weird that I'm disappointed that this isn't a thread about constipation? It's definitely what I thought I was walking into ...

Sorry, I'm not of any use on the actual subject at hand.

  • I thought the no shampoo method involved mostly not using products in the hair at all and just letting the natural oils be. No?

I am obsessed with prime... perhaps one of the best decisions I've made.

  • I don't know if you have already done the coconut oil mask, but my girlfriend uses it and she said to not put too much in because it can take forever to wash out. It's great to use as lotion after a shower too.
  • The best place I've found for both coconut oil and raw honey is Costco! They have good quality ingredients..
They've stepped up their game in recent years and I love it. It's so much cheaper, and the quality is still there for both ingredients.

But, if you're planning on eating the honey also (separately of course, I'm not insinuating that you'll eat your shampoo;)) you may want to stick with the farmer's market. The health benefits are better for local raw honey and what I get from Costco isn't local!
  • How would anyone be able to ever ever ever ever get honey out once it's on their hair?  I'm boggled.
    image
I was wondering this as well.
So late, but the nerd in me had to answer - pure honey is water soluble, so it actually dissolves and rinses out quite easily. I'm guessing it's the "fake" stuff that is hard to get out.
