So in 2011, I went to have my long periods looked at. I left with a bottle of Provera and Clomid from my GYN. That evening, we conceived without ever taking the medication. My mom would tease me that I'm stubborn. All someone has to do is tell me that I can't, and I'll do it out of spite. My GYN said I couldn't have babies, so boom! KTFU. When we started to struggle emotionally to TTC this time around, my mom just said, "Make an appointment with a doctor. When they tell you that you can't have babies, you'll get pregnant on your own."
At my last RE appointment, I mentioned that I just confirmed O, and she suggested that it would be too ironic if I got pregnant on my own because that's what happened the last time. Her progesterone test said I did not O, so I started on Provera to begin our first medicated cycle. Although I wanted to rely on the progesterone test, my chart was looking sooo pretty. It has the most obvious and sustained Post O temps. I looked at other charts, to see if that's what it looks like if you temp while on Provera- mine looks different. So, stubborn as I am, I convinced myself that I knew better than my RE's blood work and took a test.
Cycle/Month: Cycle 4. 20 months since going off birth control, 15 months since my first post BC period. Long cycles suck balls.
CD/DPO: 56/12
EDD: October 15
What we did: I lost 15 lb. I drank a lot of water/green tea, but that was for the weight loss. We were preparing for my first medicated cycle. We hit O-4, O-2, and O. We got pretty lucky because we hadn't had sex for a full week prior, and most of a week after.
Symptoms: The only reason I tested was because my chart was pretty. Having PCOS and being medicated, my charts are NEVER pretty. I have no symptoms, but if I had to stretch and make assumptions out of correlations, I have had some pretty sexy dreams the last three nights.
Telling DH: I told my 10 year old first. I needed her help to tell me if she saw a second line. We conspired to do all kinds of cute surprise things, but decided to not do anything like that because DH never acts surprised. So I just told him, "Hey, while we're at the store, I'd like to pick up a digital hpt." He was so confused. "You think you're pregnant?" He didn't like the price of the digitals, so we bought a couple WalMart cheapies. The line was so faint, but it was there. I started crying, and he was comforting me with, "Aw, it's OK, honey." He did not understand that a line was a line- he thought I was upset. I peed on 9 sticks yesterday afternoon/evening, from two different Wondfo batches and the cheapies. All of them were super faint. DH just looked sad and skeptical, which was not the reaction I wanted. This morning, after 3 +hpts, I ran to the store for that digital he didn't want to buy. It said "Pregnant," so I finally got a hug. I still don't think he believes me.
The Mushy Stuff: My plan before joining this board was to take a test at the first of every month. We had sex a lot (we avg every 2-3 days, just because we like sex), so we figured I would get KU eventually, even with my crazy long cycles. It was by following the lead of others experiencing IF/2IF that I decided to make an appointment with an RE. I finally have my diagnosis--something I should have gotten when I was 16. When I joined, I was naive, ignorant, and pretty much just dumb. I didn't know how ovulation worked; I didn't know the FW was so small. Hell, my first post was asking if it was OK to take expired Clomid because I just had it lying around. To be honest, that question was the reason I joined TB. The responses made me cry, and I was angry. But I followed suggestions, destroyed the medication, and learned about my body. My daughter already knows about eggs, ovulation, and the importance of understanding how your body works. She is years ahead of where I was at her age, and I have you all to thank for that.
