Tell me your irrational fears

Re: Tell me your irrational fears

  • I used to be TERRIFIED of the thought of giving birth.  And now I've turned into one of those people who want to tell others about how it was crazy intense, but really not bad.

And @jdoud77, passing semis (even in the same direction of travel) is enough to significantly raise my blood pressure.  Often times, I'll opt to drive at a snail's pace rather than have to pass a big truck, for the reasons you mentioned.

  • After reading all if these it reminded me of even more fears...definitely driving next to 18-wheelers. I have a hard time driving over bridges- the whole time I picture my car just going over the side.

When I was little I watched a really scary movie and probably up until 8 years ago I had to sleep with my hands covered for fear my finger nails would turn black ( the kids in the movie all had black finger nails and fried their parents faces off). With this said LO will not be watching horror movies anytime soon.
  • Mine is birds. I hate the things.

I'm afraid of mold. I have no idea why.

Also, when I'm in bed, even if no other part of my body is being covered by a blanket, I have to cover my feet. I have an irrational fear of someone hiding under my bed and coming out to grab my feet. Not that the blanket would prevent them from doing so, so I'm not sure what my deal is with it.

@Adrd47, I totally have that foot thing too!! They have to have the blanket/sheet on them. Somehow I got it in my head when I was little that exposed feet is how aliens decide who to abduct... So I have to have them covered! And when I check on DD1 at night if hers are out I cover them for her!

I thought of more since I last posted. I'm terrified of walking into DD1's room at night and her being gone. Along the same lines I'm terrified that I'll walk in there and she'll either be just sitting or standing there, like in paranormal activity... AND it freaks the shit out if me when she's just standing by my bed. She's done that a few times and it's freaky!!!

Also flying. I hate it. And when DD1 was a baby I was always envisioned dropping her over the railing that is along the basement stairs.

Amen!!! Me too. They are just so creepy.
  • @HBirdie I rented an apartment once before moving in with my fiance and I thought, "well this is total crap but it's cheap, yay!" Then I saw one of those bugs come out of the kitchen sink only it wad seriously neon blue. I paid for 3 months rent and my damages deposit and never ever set foot in that apartment again. Terrifying.
  • I have so many irrational fears...I'm a total scaredy cat!

I can't sleep with any of my limbs hanging off the bed because I'm afraid I will feel something touch me or something will grab me.

When DH isn't home I sleep with all the lights on, like everywhere in the house because I'm petrified that something bad will happen when I'm alone...especially an earthquake or a burglar.

I'm terrified of ghosts, I turn lights on as soon as I can upon entering a dark room.

I hate when traffic makes me stop under an overpass. I'm afraid there will be an earthquake and it will crush me. I'm essentially afraid of earthquakes, period.

I also have a huge fear of drowning or being trapped underwater.

  • I'm terrified of sloths. Yes, those creatures who barely move. I saw a picture of an extinct giant sloths skull once and about peed my pants.

Sometimes I get really freaked out by Walmart and have an anxiety attack at the store. No idea why. But it's only Walmart.

I am scared to death of being pinned down or trapped. DH found that out the hard way when he tried tickling me and pinning me down. He was bruised for days. I can't control my flailing/kicking when I get that trapped feeling.

And I have about a million irrational fears regarding LO.

Those giant extinct sloths are CRAZY looking and extremely freaky. Totally understandable feat.
