But why would I pay that much when I can go to Once Upon a Child and get it for even less. They just had a dollar sale and I stocked up on tons of name brand clothes for both of my kids and spent 1/10 of what I would have had to pay at TJ Maxx and most of it looks brand new. Most consignment shop will only accept clothes that look almost brand new.
I think it comes down to preference. I had mentioned earlier, previously worn clothing can be stretched out, etc. due to how the last child wore it, so it may not fit how you would like it to fit. If you buy it new, no one else has worn it, so you do not have to worry about if it has been stretched out or not. Again, if that works for you, that is great. Obviously, I am very finicky with clothing and prefer it to be new and not have to worry about if it was stretched or previously worn, etc.
When I think of "hand me downs," I did not think of consignment shops. My mind went straight to a friend or family member giving clothing, regardless of the condition. So, sometimes it could be faded, stretched, etc. Another thing too is that not everybody has the same taste in clothing. What one person likes for their child another may not. So what ever hand me down you receive may just be full of stuff you just do not care for, then you are stuck.
My kid is wearing a onesie and sweats right now, I dare you to look at him and judge him. You can't. He's freaking adorable. Anybody that "has to" have their kids in designer clothes is either new money or hood rich. I'll have my handbags forever, I put them away in their dust bags and boxes in my closet, my kid will be in his clothes for the next month, during which he will shit and puke all over them. Coming from someone who does like designer things, I'm telling you your UO is vapid.
First of all, when did I say i was judging anyone? I said it was personal preference. Secondly when did I say I "had" to have my children in "designer" clothing? I never did. I said I like certain brands and stores and do not like others. I said nothing about designer. Gymboree is not designer. Janie and Jack, not designer. Circo and Cherokee, not designer. Koala Kids, not designer, etc. So if I DID say something about "having" to put my kids in "designer" clothing, please show me where. Nowhere did I say I "had" to dress my children in Burberry, Marc Jacobs, Kenneth Cole, etc.
"I am a clothes snob about what my children wear and I despise hand me
downs. I won't shop certain places or put them in certain brands because
I do not think highly of them." <<<Where does that say I "have" to put them in "designer?"
1. I f'n love wine. Love it. I would pour myself a glass of wine right now if I wasn't baby wearing and my mom wasn't here to judge me. That being said, I am with my girl St. Lucia. Chardonnay, ew. Also, moscato and Riesling, ew. Give me a Sancerre or a Tempranillo any day.
2. Brittannie, your wedding sounds perfect, I wanted to run away and get married but my mother was not on board and I ended up having an over-the-top wedding. It was so fun for us but probably because I was so relaxed and didn't care as long as we were married at the end of the day.
3. I wished mishkaroni a happy dirty thirty yesterday. But I was challenging her to bang 30 guys also. So it's okay.
4. I am anti-French manicure.
5. Devynnmarie, to each their own but is this part of the reason why you guys didn't work out or did you two have an open relationship?
6. My UO: I don't think it's bad to spend a shit ton of money on a handbag. My first Chanel sells for $2k more than what I bought it for, so I tell myself it's an investment. I probably am materialistic. Currently, my "everyday" bag is a Celine, my fancy bag is a Chanel and my low key bag is Louis Vuitton.
That being said, TilapiaBread, your UO is ridiculous.
@cfox815 I love you!! Let's go wine tasting wearing our babies. I'm doing it all next week!!!
@taviabrad I guess LA & NYC are behind in fashion if juicy is so popular.
I do not live there so I don't know. What I DO know is based upon where I had worked, there was a growing demand for it and still is and I have also noticed where I currently live the demand is also high. Just because the demand is high does not mean every single place in the country is going to want it. Some places love tru religion or 7 for all mankind, but you go somewhere else, and people are wearing something else. That does not necessarily mean nobody wants it, It just means that particular area doesn't wear it as much or that particular area has a higher demand for other stuff.
I am a clothes snob about what my children wear and I despise hand me downs. I won't shop certain places or put them in certain brands because I do not think highly of them.
I know a lot of snobs. They look down on other people because they don't meet their idea of what is acceptable. I am a bag snob, I admitted it in a prior FFFC. I judge people with fake bags.
If you're going to say you won't allow your kids to wear certain brands because you judge them or you are a clothes snob, stand by it. It's a UO, own your unpopularness. Don't backpedal.
Finally, since you spelled it wrong twice, it's True Religion, not Tru Religion. A clothes snob should know that.
I never said I judge them because I don't. I already said I was a clothes snob, which is why I will not put them in just anything. You can be a snob about something and not judge other people for it. So I do not quite understand what you are trying to prove when I have stated it was personal preference.
Thank you for the spelling correction. I do not wear much true religion because usually their stuff does not fit me, however, there is still no excuse for the error. LOL.
You never did answer my question though. Where did I say I "had" to put my children in "designer" clothing?
@cfox15 you win. Tavitasbald, you've been served... isaac is in a target onsite and hand me down sweats and he is adorable. And imagine that... it all fits!
I hate when people refer to a 30th birthday as "Dirty 30". It sounds gross to me, like a challenge to bang 30 dudes in one night or something.
I was born in '84 so all my friends and I are turning 30 this year. I'll be seeing this phrase on FB and gagging a lot.
a person with an exaggerated respect for high social position or wealth who seeks to associate with social superiors and dislikes people or activities regarded as lower-class.
Thanks for that, however, a definition does not equal someone's personal reality. I do not dislike anyone nor do I dislike certain activities just because a "lower class" person does them. I am a snob about it because there are certain places I just will not venture due to I never shop there, do not like the store at all, or I do not like the quality of the clothing or how it is made. That is a snob. It has NOTHING to do with looking down on people. CFox said her son was in a onesie and sweatpants. Guess what? Burberry has onesies, I don't buy those. Carters, Gymboree, etc has onesies, which are brands I do buy. So how can someone look down on someone because their child has a onesie and sweatpants on, when there are tons of brands that have these exact things? The type of clothing has nothing to do with it, it is the brand and certain quality of certain brands I do not like.
I am still looking for where I allegedly said they "had" to be in "designer"
Your opinion. We agree to disagree. Most of the time if someone speaks about views, of way of thinking, or their opinion it is developed from personal experience. Nobody is going to form their view by looking in the dictionary about what they experienced. If we want to use that logic about the english language:
I am a clothes snob about what my children wear and I despise hand me
downs. I won't shop certain places or put them in certain brands because
I do not think highly of them.
brand does not equal designer according to the English language.
I never said designer in the first place, but based on your logic of the English language, brand does not equal designer. Rather, it is a kind grade or make marked with that particular logo, trademark or however they choose to identify their clothing.
@cfox15 you win.
Tavitasbald, you've been served... isaac is in a target onsite and hand me down sweats and he is adorable. And imagine that... it all fits!
That's great, I am glad it does. Lol@been served when she can't even answer a simple question of where I allegedly said I "had" to put my kids in "designer" clothing. still waiting for where I said it. FYI I never said I did not like Target. So again, your point? I am glad your hand me downs fit though. Not everybody is as lucky due to stretch, shrinkage, etc.
TableBread,
Gerber owns the word "onesie" so I was referring to Gerber.
Usually when people use words, they want them to mean what the words actually mean. Not some meaning they made up in their head. As dollphnfreek showed you, the definition means you expect a certain level and look down on those who do not meet that level.
Again, just own your UO. Don't backpedal.
I don't consider what I said back pedaling. from the get go I talked about personal preference. I do not judge people just bc they have a different taste in clothing. lol. Everything I say I am speaking of from personal experience, as does mostly everyone. That is all I am saying. If you are asking me to own it you need to own the fact that you twisted what I said because I NEVER said I "had" to put my children in "designer". It is very simple. Do not twist what was said I will not keep asking you to show where I said it. So I will ask AGAIN. Where did I say I "had" to put them in "designer?".
ToastedBread Can you please learn how to correctly quote. You are driving me insane.
ToastedBread is actually a very funny name. Maybe I should change mine to that. When I hit "quote" that is how it sets it up. Is there a way to change the setting? I don't know why it is doing that.
For those who are all "ILOVESEAWORLD!" I need to know how and why you can support a place that has knowingly allowed a dangerous animal to kill multiple people and STEALS babies? How would you like if I cornered you in the hood and stole your baby and then made it sleep in a metal crate and do tricks for me all day and if it didn't do it right I'd starve it?
I also hate the circus.
Marlena lives in hand me downs from friends. The clothes are in near perfect condition because their babies only wore it for like a month and I have pregnant friends who will be getting the clothes from me, so they'll be twice handed down and are still near perfect. I also enjoy hand me downs, "Oh you don't like this anymore or it doesn't fit? Fuck yes I'll take it. FREE MOTHAFUCKKKKKKAAAA!" Most of my maternity clothes were HMDs as well. I also LOVE Platos closet. NO FUCKING SHAME! I'll also take your leftover food, thanks bitch.
I have an UO (don't hurt me @cfox815) I think expensive purses are kind of stupid. My husband got me a Fossil purse for my birthday a few years ago (it was 75$ and to me that is a lot of money) and I love it. I love it because it has birds in cages... I like birds. If the purse was from KMart I still would have been stoked on it because I like birds.
TapewormBread,
You're really hung up on this question. I'm sorry you used the word "brand" not designer.
I still think you're either hood rich or new money by being a clothes snob for your kids. My friend that works on the Maury show told me the guests on the show always say their babies can only wear certain brands. That's the only people I know of, besides you, who care about such silly things. Have you been on the Maury show?*
I still think it's vapid and there's nothing wrong with hand me downs. Your kid fits in the clothes for ten minutes.
But, going forward, I will use the term brand instead of designer because it seems to upset you so much.
Also, LOL at you thinking Juicy is designer.
*no judgment. It's my guilty pleasure. I would probably recognize you.
CFraud why are you avoiding the question? Because you intentionally twisted around a thread and now cannot prove something was said because it was never said in the first place? It is silly to care about brands yet you judge people who have knock off purses? Is that not the same thing?? I never said Juicy was designer so try again. Juicy is actually considered a "Premium" brand which is below designer. So again, do you wanna show me where I said Juicy was designer or are you just gonna have the imaginary post in your head that I said it? LOL.
I am glad you know of people on the Maury show that care about that stuff. I wasn't aware you associated with such. LOL. It is more likely that you would be on there as opposed to me considering there are "people you know of" that act like people on that show that care about such things.
Also I am curious how you would recognize someone when they don't have a picture? Just a thought. LOL@Never answering my question. I rest my case.
@cfox815, I also judge those that buy fake bags. Mostly because of the people that make and sell them.
My OP: I don't have a problem with elementary schools taking part in programs like Feed My Starving Children. I don't care that it is a religious organization. When I volunteered with my cousin once, not one time did I hear about how amazeballs Jesus is. The kids are volunteering for an organization that feeds people and they get to feel good about themselves for helping others?! PERFECT. Where do I sign my 10 week old baby up?
@Dapostrophe I have to bring my own polish because they always have HORRIBLE color selections! All kinda neon and frosted polishes. ew! Doesn't matter where I go either! AND...STFU to the lady talking divorce all up on your wedding day!!! ugh so sorry, girl!
Haha, it's ok. I came home in tears and my poor DH was like...please go to your salon and have them fix your toes! In the end I didn't because I had some drop dead navy Badgely Mischkas (designer name drop because that's what this thread is about) to cover them up.
Now, if I could only find some in my kid's size...
This requires a photo.
Six years of infertility and loss, four IUIs, one IVF and one very awesome little boy born via med-free birth 10.24.13.
That should be towards Fox being that she is obsessed with twisting around my threads. I believe she said something first not the other way around.LOL. Mean Girls is one of my favorite movies.
Sigh, TupperwareBread.
Why are you obsessed with me?
I can barely read that I'm getting so bored with you.
I judge fake bags because they contribute to human trafficking and I don't like people who feel the need to keep up with the Jones so badly, they carry a fake bag. Probably why I don't like someone that needs their kid in certain brands. It's about putting on a fake front.
I didn't avoid your question. I answered the question. You used the word "brand", I used the word "designer". Get over it. You're trying to project and backpedal because you can't own your UO.
Haha, CFraud. It's fun to be so unoriginal you steal my schtick.
There is a prior thread where you list all the brands you said your kids must wear and how they are not designer. Juicy was not included in that. Again, own it.
I'm not sure why it would be bad that I "associate" with television producers. But, okay.
You rest what case? As an attorney, I have seen many people represent themselves. You have not presented a case to rest.
I'm not sure why you can't quit me.
LMFAO@"Why are you obsessed with me when you took the liberty to TWIST what I said and are STILL talking to me. If i am boring why respond?
"brand", I used the word "designer". Get over it. I never said I 'had" to put my kids in "designer" and you are so stuck on yourself and not being wrong that you can't even admit it so YOU get over it. You're trying to project and backpedal because you can't own your UO. I believe you are avoiding a question to avoid admitting you are wrong. LOL.
There is a prior thread where you list all the brands you said your kids
must wear and how they are not designer. Juicy was not included in that. There is a rule we have to list EVERYTHING? No point in listing everything when I got my point across. So..what is your point? I also did not list ALL the brands that they wear, I listed some because some asked.
Again, own it.
Again, own you twisted my thread to cause drama
I'm not sure why you can't quit me. Yet YOU responded to my UO and kept typing back and STILL are, so wouldn't it be YOU can't quit ME? haha.
I am going to laugh at you responding to this again after saying I can't quit you, when you are doing the same thing. Hahaha.
This isn't an UO (I'll try to think of one, but, dang, I'm boring) but a question: How, exactly, do baby clothes get "stretched out of shape"? What the heck are you and your babies doing with these clothes? If I find that I'm having to stretch clothes to put them on our baby, I figure they're too small!
Of course, most of her clothes are consignment or hand-me-downs (some from when my DH was a kid!), so I'm obviously not a connoisseur of baby clothes. If they cover her up and don't annoy me, and they're clean, she'll wear them.
Iris born Halloween 2013! 6 lbs, 1 oz, 18 inches long
Oh, here's my UO: baby clothes that say "Daddy's little cutie" or
"Mommy's little peanut" or whatever annoy me. I can't explain why,
exactly, but I do.
UO the second: I find it weird when people
refer to baby boys as "little man." We don't call baby girls "little
woman," so what's up with that?

I love those shirts, they're sooo cute to me. I like "Mommy's lil monster" tehehe.
I think I get the "little man" thing because I call M, little mama or just mama... I don't know why, I just do. It feels right?
I am a clothes snob about what my children wear and I despise hand me downs. I won't shop certain places or put them in certain brands because I do not think highly of them.
Just curious about what brands you put your kids in and what you look down on. Humor me.
If you thought I "look down upon" certain brands I apologize if it came across that way. I do not think highly of certain stores because I do not think they have very good products and a lot of it comes from I never shopped there or was shopped for there growing up. If however, others want to dress their children in that stuff that is fine, it is just personal preference.
To answer your question most of their stuff is Gymboree, Janie and Jack, Ralph Lauren, Juicy Couture (for my daughter), Carters and Koala Kids/Baby and brands that Nordstrom carries. I got a few things in there from Target that I find now and then. Circo or Cherokee Brand. Usually if my parents send them clothes we get a lot of Baby Gap, Ralph Lauren and Gymboree.
Honestly I have tons of CK, Ralph Lauren, Quicksilver, and. Janie and Jack stuff besides just Carter's and stuff from Target and there's no discernable difference in quality. And even if there were, It's not like the clothes are going to be worn for any length of time since he's growing so quickly.
I guess I just don't understand why you would care when everything is going to be covered in shit, piss, snot, drool, and vomit.
But the other infants are going to judge your LO!
I have said it before and will say it again it comes down to personal preference and the the "look" that you like or what you are used to. My daughter does not really vomit, drool or having a runny nose that much and rarely does she have diaper blowouts. My son has not done much of this yet but he is still young. I just migrate towards certain brands. I do not see why that is a bad thing as everyone has different tastes.
I actually notice that Ralph Lauren holds up and washes better than stuff I have gotten at Target. I do not like CK because it has fit both of my kids funny. Sizing in Target is weird too because a lot of their stuff goes from 12-18 months straight to 2T. I forgot about Guess and OshKosh, those are good quality as well. Janie and Jack stuff fits them well also. Which of them do you like best?
Is anyone just following this thread now to see what new name @cfox815 comes up with for designer mom? hahahahaha I needed this laugh today. Thank you!
I personally find it funny. So if she is trying to offend me she failed. LOL.
I am a clothes snob about what my children wear and I despise hand me downs. I won't shop certain places or put them in certain brands because I do not think highly of them.
My child wears only hand me downs :-) I buy them on purpose. The only new items were gifts from other people... Also, a lot of the hand me downs still have tags.
I can't wrap my brain around caring what brand a baby wears - I also don't think that it's fair that my kid be better dressed than me.
My UO is that I think sleep training is a bit of a waste of time (for our family). Just let the baby sleep when she is tired, I have so many friends who are OBSESSED with sleep training and all I see it doing is stressing them and the baby out. I just don't get it. Is it worth the tears for your baby to sleep at specific times vs. when they're tired if you keep with a routine? We have a routine, we just don't stick to a time table. Astin sleeps just fine through the night... I find it unnatural. (Sleep training)
I just don't get the hand me down hate. My kid has some 4th generation hand me downs. Some of her clothes went from DD1, my oldest niece, and my youngest niece before her. Which means it was probably worn 3-6 times before she wore it.
She also has red hair.

It is just personal preference for me as an individual. That's why it is an UO. If other people want to do it, that has nothing to do with me so it does not bother me. Does it happen a lot where you receive them and they do not fit her because she is built differently?
Does it happen a lot where you receive them and they do not fit her because she is built differently?
I get that different brands fit somewhat differently but I don't see how something would fit differently just because it was worn before. They're kids. If something doesn't fit them, it's because it's the wrong size. I don't know about you, but the hand me downs I've received haven't been from people who have had custom clothes made just for their kid.
