I think you should have to retake the driving test every few years, not just when you reach a certain age.

I think there should be required parenting courses before parents are allowed to leave the hospital..really before they get pregnant, but that's not realistic

I think washers/dryers should be considered a requirement in apartments/rentals. $3 a load is killing me.

That shows her true colors. She was an Oxfam Ambassador for 8+ years. I guess the Soda Stream money was a lot sweeter than rewards of human rights activism.

There are hundreds of different religions/denominations. To me, religion is man made and causes people to lose focus on what really matters. Seems like some religions are more concerned with proving another religion wrong and disproving their validity instead of actually doing what Jesus did.

Religious? No. Spiritual? Yes. I'm all for believing in a higher power, but not letting it dictate how you live your life.

Like @TrueBeliever925 I had religion stuffed down my throat growing up (not necessarily the same way).

If you didn't eat, breath and live Christianity you were beat in my house (spare the rod, spoil the child). No tv, no radio, no nonchristian friends(pre-approved by my parents) or activities. Until I was 16 or so I was literally dragged kicking and screaming to church. My parents had prayer groups come in to pray at my bedroom door that I would repent and devote my life to god. My dad would put his hands on me and start praying if I left my room. To this day he still sends me letters/texts/emails telling me my whole family will burn for all eternity in hell if I don't change my ways.

As a teen I became depressed and eventually suicidal. I can't even count how many times I was told those thoughts were "from the devil". I was denied "real" help as it was my own fault for being a sinner. People prayed for me, that's all I got.

My childhood is an extreme example of how fucked up religion can make you. I realize that not all religious people are like that (not by a long shot). But my past has made me very, very bitter towards the church.

I do not hate people who are religious. I'm all for people believing what they want to believe, but don't push it on other people.

I know saying I hate religion may seem extreme, maybe if I said "I hate what religion can do to people" would be more accurate. In any case, I don't think the word "hate" is extreme in my situation.

I am agnostic but I can see where @revez is coming from. From what I remember, her parents were extremely religious and are/ were very critical towards her during her upbringing. I think being religious is great, but when the church controls all of your decisions, it can be negative.

I firmly believe that a government has zero right to tell anyone what they can or cannot do, provided it doesn't infringe upon the rights of anyone else. Period. I don't think a government has any business telling someone what to do with their body when it comes to abortion and in the same vein, it doesn't have any business telling someone what to do with their body when it comes to the drugs they want to put in it.

If I were to pick and choose, saying "I don't like that, so I'm ok with that being illegal, but I like THAT, so THAT should be legal" I would be displaying very childish, one-dimensional thinking.

The argument isn't that it should or shouldn't be illegal. A lot of things should be legal.

The argument is while it is illegal, you are putting your job and children at risk by doing it. You can have legal repercussions, you can lose your job, or your kids can suffer for it. Going to jail or getting your kids taken away for doing drugs isn't going to make a statement to the government. Simply being against a law does not prevent its consequences if you break it.

I agree...my dh smokes pot...my father will smoke now and then...my boss smokes...my bosses boss smokes. Yes smoking can help calm you down after a long stressful day. And yes I agree I prefer that to popping a prescription pill that is full of chemicals...what you do in the privacy of your own home is no ones business. Legal or not. One day weed will be legal everywhere and this point will be moot. Irresponsible to smoke weed? Hell no not in a safe environment with adults. But to each their own.

@lisarene77 I've tried that. It's still too strong. & @speshul I make hot chocolate and put instant coffee in it, but I can't seem to make it any stronger (more than a weak teaspoon). I really do want to like coffee. I'd rather drink coffee for caffeine than soda.

Pot is a chemical too. It is also a crutch if you use it to calm down. There are other ways to relax and unwind. Excersize, yoga a bath. Why do we have to turn to any substance to relax?

It was a response in relation to your comment about the others' "it's illegal" argument. You replied (paraphrasing) that it's not a valid argument because the government infringes on peoples' rights.
The "it's illegal" argument has nothing to do with the validity of the law. It has to do with the consequences for the rest of the family of breaking said law.

The reason some people are judging the pot smoker, is that it puts the family at the risks I mentioned previously because it is illegal. If it were legal the smoker would not be putting the
family at risk.

I'm all for legalizing it. If anything at least medicinally. I think it would do wonders for anxiety.

TrueBeliever925 Have you tried different blends? I only really like breakfast blend and a few others. When I first started coffee, I could only drink starbucks lattes or macchiatos. I love coffee with LOTS of foam. I'm more of a tea person anyway. Irish Breakfast tea all the way!!

The government has the right to mandate the USA because it is the USA government, elected by the USA. If you don't like it, feel free to leave. Period. Or use your vote as your voice.

And if you think making things illegal is as simple as someone saying, I don't like that, I'd argue that is very childish, one dimensional thinking.

I haven't. I love the smell of hazelnut. I should really try that. I'm always envious when you guys talk about how much you love coffee and how many cups you've had for the day. I'm always sitting here with a soda, which I really want to kick. I figure it's probably not the best of trade offs if I drink coffee with tons of stuff in it, but ohhh well.

I think being able to complain/criticize the government is the best part of living in the USA

And I have zero problems with people complaining... IF you do your part. I don't think you should complain if you havent used your right as an American to vote.

People who vote may not always be in the majority, doesn't mean they have to be happy about the outcome or never voice an opinion contrary to to the majority outcome of a vote. Nor does it mean they will never vote again on an issue.

Also having an opinion that is contrary to a current law in no way makes anyone less of an American. Not sure where that statement even came from. Exercising her right to express an opinion contrary to current law is about as "American" as it gets.

I guess my UO is I hate the "I am more American than you"....*shoves flag down throat* sentiment.

On the religion debate. I agree with @CaliforniaDream87

I don't believe in God or Jesus. But, If you live the best life you can, and are kind to people, and if that to you means being Christian and believing in Jesus, then fine - so long as that means that you're trying to be the best person you can be.

However, Religion, as an institution, is corrupt and very rarely is it actually about being who this "God" wants you to be. It's at the root of most major atrocities on the planet.

I have no beef with God and I don't blame it on God for what I went through. I don't believe God and religion are the same (again, spiritual not religious). It's ok though, I was telling @TrueBeliever925, I think those experiences will help me be a better mom and if LO wants to be religious when she's older, she can. I know what it's like to be a "disappointment" for not having the same belief system as your parents.

Did I say ever they DIDN'T vote? Nope, I didn't say that nor did I imply that. I was simply stating MY opinion that if you don't vote I don't feel you have the right to complain.

Perhaps you should re-read what I wrote because I also did not imply that I was Mrs. Patriotism. For Christsake I posted the nyan-cat as a gif!
