  AKA "The ring of fire"  I believe it's when the baby's head is crowning and you start pushing.  At least that's my understanding.  From what I hear it's inescapable -- epidural or no epidural.  My husband suggested to the birthing class that we play "Ring of Fire" by Johnny Cash when that starts.  I did not laugh.

  This is not true. I've had 3 vag deliveries with epi and hell no did I ever feel the dreaded ring of fire. (Confession: much of my reason for an epidural is my fear of the ring of fire pain!)

  This for me too (and the stitching up part).  I have committed to trying med free this time.... trying but I am not fully convinced I can brave the fire.  I'm a wimp!
