So sad about putting baby in his own room

DH and I want LO to be sleeping in his own room by the time I go back to work next month, so last night we tried it out and put him in his crib. He was perfect; he babbled to himself for a little bit (I saw him on the monitor, it was cute) then peacefully fell asleep without fussing at all. The problem is me...I couldn't stand the thought of him being alone in his room and not in the bassinet next to me. I missed him so much that I went in his room, woke him up and put him in my room in the bassinet. It made me so sad and I need to get over it. Anyone else having issues putting LO in their own room?

  • I understand what you are going through.  I am going back to work next week and wanted to put my Little into his room before too, but I don't know if that's going to happen.  I like having him next to me in his bassinet.  It will get easier, I put my older two in their room before I went back to work also.  Just do what ever makes you comfortable.  Try it again and see how it goes.
  • @katemw guess you need to leave the board now..... ;)

Lol this is what I was thinking when I read this!

  • I think I would do the same thing!! I want him close & would miss him!!
  • I'm glad it was so easy for you. I usually try to let her sleep in her crib during the day when I'm trying to get stuff done around the house. But at night she is in bed with us because I just have to see her right there when I wake up, I'm too attached right now. I'm sure in time you'll adjust, every mom is different :)
    Welcome Lily Anna!

  • We'll, I think having the baby in his own room is amazing. However, I did have trouble moving DS1 back in the day. Try starting with naps to make yourself more comfortable. Give yourself a couple days of that then go for the night time. It really is nice having your room back.

  • I'm glad to know I'm not the only one that feels this way. I really am so attached. The nap idea is a great idea, i'll try it out for a few days then start trying again at night. It really would be nice for my husband and I to have our room back to ourselves. Thanks for sharing your experiences ladies!

@Cashingn2 I wish I was a PERFECT mom like you. How could I live with myself with doing the "most ridiculous thing ever"? How will my son ever recuperate from being woken up?!?

    Wow..Seriously? LOL!!!

  • If you want the baby in your room then leave the baby in your room. I've been back at work for 2 weeks and LO still sleeps in the RNP next to me. You still have to wake up for a motn feeding anyway.

  • We co-slept with DS from about 6 months until about 2 years old.  It was fine up until about he was 1 year old.  Then it became very disruptive and DH and I never got good sleep.  It was a nightmare to get him out of our room.  He was out by the time he was 2 when DD1 came along.  Up until he turned 5 DH would have to lay with him to get him to sleep.  He was so dependent on someone being with him and it was a nightmare if we left him to cry for sometimes hours!

When DD1 came along, she was in her crib from day one.  We never did CIO, but we'd let her fuss a bit and she'd always put herself to sleep.  She was and always has been a terrific sleeper.  We are doing the same for DD2.  So, I'm a big advocate for letting them sleep in their room, in their crib.  Only because we ended up with so many more sleep problems than we ever expected.

  • ooohhhh it was a joke! This thread really is becoming hilarious with all the jokes...

@cashingn2 my perfect mom comment was just a joke...lighten up already.

Anyways, THIS silly FTM will continue to work on not feeling sad and missing LO when he's not next to me. Moving him to his own room is something that needs to happen sooner or later but that doesn't mean when it does that it won't be hard. Napping during the day in the crib will begin tomorrow. Thank you ladies for your feedback.

  • @cashingn2 I'm not as good at jokes as you are and I would hope that anything anyone says to you on an internet forum wouldn't actually make you cry, especially if it would ruin a perfectly good bowl of ice cream.

Well that was enough entertainment and joking around for one night, i'm going to eat dinner with my husband then cuddle with little man before bed.

    Have a great night everyone!

  • Hey at least I was the one who was really joking about waking their sleeping baby! Lol.
  • That's an excellent observation considering this is an internet forum for mothers who, one would assume have motherly/family oriented commitments. I signed off at 6 (at least that's what time it was here in Boston) for dinner and time with my family. I'd love to spend endless hours shooting the shit on the bump but my motherly/family oriented duties take priority over everything else in life. That's how it is...for me anyways.

  • OP I get it. I cried when I started putting DS in my RNP right next to the bed instead of having him on my chest one night. He has never slept anywhere but in the room with us.

But, you're definitely going to need thicker skin if you want to join this board. Lighten up!

My point was not what you were doing but the fact you felt the need to announce it.

  • I love this post! It's the perfect time waster while my son is napping and I'm all caught up with Keeping up with the Kardashians (yes I love Kim K.). I felt the need to announce my motherly duties as a way of pausing the post until I could return. I didn't want to miss anymore jokes or opportunities to read between the lines.
