Hey ladies,

I was diagnosed with Factor V Leiden (Homo) and Factor II mutation when I was 18 after being hospitalized for multiple PE. I have been on Coumadin ever since. My hubby and I just found out I'm pregnant and immediately switched to Lovenox. I currently take 60mg twice daily. Looking for ladies in my same situation to help with the fears that go along with a high risk pregnancy. I have my first ultrasound with my Peri scheduled for February 7th.

So far so good

I have had bleeding twice, once at 7w and once a yesterday but both stopped quickly (within the hour). Both babies are healthy and growing!

I'll be your Lovenox buddy! Hetero Factor V Leiden diagnosed post-pulmonary embolism. I am 21 weeks pregnant with di/di twin girls

I take 40 mg / day...and am bruising from injections now more that my belly is getting bigger. I am also finding it tough to pinch enough skin for my daily shot.

Congrats and well wishes for your first US. I have been on 40 mg of lovenox once a day plus baby aspirin since week 8 and done really well. I have a an MTHFR mutation, factor v Leiden, APA and a problem with my protein S they found at my first 8 week visit. I have never had any clotting problems but a family history caused me to get tested. Tomorrow I will be 34 weeks and will soon be switching to heparin twice a day to allow the possibility for an epidural. Thought the pregnancy there has just been increased monitoring and testing and I have to see an MFM. But if you have any questions about what to expect or anything feel free to ask as I found it helpful when I was early in my pregnancy. Good luck and best wishes

KaraBear4409: Wow, 30 weeks! You are getting close. Such exciting news. I am hoping the Heparin doesn't burn as badly as the Lovenox. I already have red speckles on my belly.

BeesKnees181: Twin girls! Congrats, that is so great! I am so happy to hear all of these good stories on Lovenox and knowing baby(ies) are doing so well.

I already have a heard time pinching and i'm not even showing yet, just bloated haha. I was hoping it got easier!

I was a little nervous about a pregnancy with FVL but it seems like Lovenox does a good job.

Aademoas: Aww you will have your little baby so soon! I am happy about the increased monitoring so I can always know what's going on.

I'm so excited but nervous for the journey. Hoping my little baby and I have a healthy pregnancy.

You can do the injections on the back of your upper arms or the front of your thighs too. I find spreading the love helps!

Arms are a bit tricky, but my husband does all of them so it works great.

Hi everyone! I am 30 weeks pregnant and have no history of blood clots but discovered Yesterday that I have one

I am currently in the hospital on lovenox 60 mg twice daily. It totally sucks and hope the clot dissolves! I wish everyone well congrats on your pregnancies!

Well, I have been on bedrest for 3 weeks and when I would get up to go to the bathroom my leg would turn red. I just thought it was because I wasnt used to being on my feet and my doctor thought the same. The scary part is I had no swelling or warm spots! I talked to 3 different doctors about it ad they all said its not a clot. After complaining about it again my doctor said well you can have an ultrasound for a "peace of mind" and then I was shocked to hear that I have one! It is in my groin and doesn't feel good. I hope these meds work! If you have any suspicions always trust your gut!

Scary about the clot! My family is terrified I will develope on during pregnancy. I am hoping that's not the case and lovenox protects me. Glad they caught it in time and can protect you and baby!

I finally got my first bruise with Lovenox! Hoping it won't be a reoccurring thing. I am currently 17 DPO. My EDD according to my last menstrual is 9/29/14 and 10/3/14 according to ovulation. Guess I will get a more accurate one on 2/7/14 at my first ultrasound. Praying everything looks good and I have a healthy little baby growing. Only a few people know right now. My hubby and I are keeping it on the DL until I get through my first trimester. 2 years ago when we weren't trying, I ended up pregnant and lost the baby only two days after finding out at 5wks 3days. This time I was trying and prepared. Switched to Lovenox at 10 DPO as soon as I got my BFP! I have also been taking prenatals and extra folic acid for months. It has already been such an exciting experience knowing our little baby is growing each day.

sarahnoelle88 I hope that your bruising is minimal, I started brushing around 12 weeks and it hasn't been pretty. As my OB and MFM say it looks like I went a round of body shots with Muhammad Ali. My MFM said icing the injection site before may help bruising.

Thanks for the advice Aademoas. My bruise isn't very bad and is already fading away. I hit some blood with that injection and I think that is what caused the bruise. For the most part is hasn't been so bad. It's still early and new and I am sure I will get the hang of it.

Hey ladies, just checking in! Think I am getting the hang of my injections. I found a nice spot that doesn't hurt too bad and leaves a tiny little mark that heals fast.

Just 4 more days until my first ultrasound! I'm a little nervous that it will still be too early to see much but hoping for the best. Friday will be exactly 6 weeks for me if I go by my ovulation.

How is everyone else doing?

First ultra sound is sooo exciting!! I am doing fine, hit some blood vessel yesterday and it is looking terrible

Have an appointment tomorrow with my MFM so I am looking forward to that, but still bumming out about not being able to do the mat21 test due to lovanox.

I haven't been on for a few days. Last week was very stressful. Saw the MFM on Wednesday for our 35 week check and she said fluid was low... Even though it have been drinking a gallon of water everyday! Fluid dropped from 15 to 6 in 4 weeks. If we drop below 5 they want to induce. Because delivery my be sooner she moved me to heparin 2x per day and NST and US to measure fluid every three days. Today fluid was at 12 and NST was great! So happy for good news.

Everything looked normal with my twin girls at yesterdays us/OB appointment. Their anatomy, heartbeats, and development looked good. Hoping we keep this up...just want a boring pregnancy. And I ended up getting the good Lovenox from the pharmacy (i.e. the ones with a built in safety). Previously, I was getting a different brand that I didn't like as much.

Ylvelill: They can't do the materniT21 test on Lovenox?? That was a test I wanted to ask my Peri about on Friday. How does the Lovenox affect it?

Aademoas: You are getting so close to having your little one! I am so excited for you. I am also curious how you like the Heparin compared to the Lovenox. Heparin doesn't come pre-filled like Lovenox right?

Some people can some people can't, my blood I guess is too thinned for them to get enough baby DNA to test. We tried twice and then they told me sorry no reason to try again.

Question for you ladies: I have read in the Lovenox info that spinal/epidural procedures on Lovenox have been known to cause paralysis. I assume this is why we are switched to Heparin later in the pregnancy, but is the risk the same with that? I am having a repeat c-section and was under general last time due to the circumstances and would like to avoid that if possible, but not at the risk of paralysis. I will obviously be asking these questions at my next appointment but was curious if anyone here had any knowledge.

(Also, if anyone can tell me how to get rid of my old signature I would appreciate it! I deleted it last week, but it is still hanging around!)

From what they told me, they switch you to Heparin because it's got a shorter half-life, and will wear off faster, and because they can reverse the effects of Heparin by administering additional medications. So, in theory, you would not be under the effects of an anticoagulant when you get the epidural. (Correct me if I'm wrong, ladies).

The heparin doesn't sting as much but it is not as convenient as having the prefilled syringes. Also having to do multiple shots a day causes me to have to find places while we are out and about to do them. All in all they are not too bad. I can't wait to hear about your ultrasound and how it goes on Friday

The MFM said the same thing about heparin they switch you because you can get an epidural 6 hours after the last dose opposed to 12 hours with lovenox. I just switched to heparin and it's not too bad.

I am glad to hear that the Heparin doesn't burn as much! How many times a day do you have to do it? I'm already on twice a day with the Lovenox and I just switch from left to right. I'm just so glad I got the hang of it. I haven't had a mark in days and the old ones have cleared up.

Doesn't even look like I do the injections anymore!

Just found this thread and wish I had seen it sooner! Im 23 weeks and on 40mg Lov daily since week 10 bc of Factor IV mutation. I did have a blood clot back when I was 18 from estrogen in taking birth control so was vey nervous to become pregnant. I found a great Hemotologist and high risk OB and they both assured me that experiencing another blood clot, especially with Lovenox, was highly unlikely and that I should have a normal pregnancy. The shots hurt and leave bruises but oh so worth it!! Hope that helps to put some of you at ease:)

There definitely used to be a weekly check-in, when I was pregnant with my daughter. I keep checking this board to see if it's still active. I'd love to see it start back up again. It was great for new ladies because it had links to tips and tricks for Lovenox users. It was also a general check in for any blood thinner including baby aspirin, but it was mostly Lovenox.

Britt&Max2010 megmegs is correct there is a shorter shelf life on the Heparin and there is an "antidote" in case they need it. I was very scared of the rick of paralysis, but most doctors will schedule an induction or c/s so that they can manage how much time you are off the Heparin. I was in a fog when my daughter was born, but I am pretty sure I was given a Lovenox needle within hours of her birth so that I could resume.

Hi Junebug317, same thing happened to me when I was 18. The clots were brought on by the birth control. My family is pretty nervous about the pregnancy, but I have tried explaining that's what Lovenox is for haha. Do you have to take Coumadin regularly when not pregnant?

Chusum, wish they still had that check in. I do recall it before I started trying. It was just a few months before my wedding but doesn't look like that board is active anymore.

Megmegs, last time I picked up they only gave me two weeks worth? Maybe once I am further along I can ask for more at once. It would be a pain going back every two weeks. My prescription is $5 each time.

I get mine in increments of 60 syringes. They tape the six boxes together in this long row, so I walk out with a package that's around two feet long; it cracks me up every time.
