    I would tell mil she's crazy and I would refuse a joint shower. This is about a miracle you and your husband worked and created out of love and want not "teen mom" or 16 and pregnant". And as a public educator I'm sad she's drinking and smoking AND 16. I see kids that are products of this kind of environment and they struggle so much more.

    I see this as a really good way for you to be a positive role model for your niece!  My best advice might sound a bit harsh - but you really need to strap on your big girl panties and deal with this anger you seem to have toward her.  She's a teen who made a tough choice, and will have to face the consequences, but she's not a criminal.

    For what it's worth, lots of my classmates had kids in high school.  I don't keep in touch with most of them, but those that I do still talk to have children that are loved just the same as children had by adults in a marriage.  The support of the family makes all the difference in the world!

    ETA:  I would also decline a joint shower if I were you.  I wouldn't want a joint shower with anyone!


    I think this was very well said and I couldn't agree more.

    I too would not want a combined baby shower and I hope you have a great relationship with your MIL to be able to express your feelings about wanting your own seperate shower.

    No. Abigail was that BSC teen on the August board and Anna was the girl on this board that was mad she had to share her pregnancy with someone who had been trying for over a year when she got pregnant the first month. It would have been crazy if one of them was your niece!
