$250 for my DD's birth. (I was on an HMO and this was the hospital L&D deductible.) Now I am on a PPO and the hospital L&D deductible this time will be $600.
$0 and I'm not Canadian. We didn't have a deductible or copays, and we pay about $400/month for all of our insurances. The next year started the $500 deductible and $15 copays for stuff other than well child, maternity, and preventative care. To be honest, we've probably met the $250 for me and DS has an ear infection so the other $250 is most likely taken care of. So, I guess I consider this kid to be free as well.
I don't have a deductible for my insurance, and I have an 80/20 plan. Based on paperwork they gave me, I can expect to pay $550 for my prenatal care. I'm not sure about the CS yet
Mine will be $0. I'm not Canadian either, but my husband is active duty military and as long as I deliver at the hospital on base (which I will be), it won't cost us a dime.
Thank you for his service and your sacrifice. You guys deserve so much more than just healthcare perks.

For some reason our company has an amazing plan in regards to women's health (there are maybe 50-60 women out of like 500 employees). Pap smear and regular check up once a year is covered completely, and all prenatal and L&D costs are covered 100%, and I'm able to go to the hospital of my choice, not just what is considered in network. I'm by no means bragging, just still in awe that a plan like this exists! I think I made about 5 calls to the HR department and the insurance provider to double, triple check. Crazy! But, I do agree...the costs here are ridiculous. My mom had her hip replaced a few years ago...$150K.
This is how mine was with DS, and now it's way worse. We find out March 1st what our new plan will be and I'm very nervous! Of course the new goes into effect April 1, so I have like 3 months to prepare for payment.
I have Humana through my healthcare employer. I'm a RN in a large hospital organization. I knew our insurance was amazing when we got bills for DD's birth and I'm even more amazed now that I've read this thread! We do pay a $20 co-pay for well-child visits, but that's next to nothing.
I have Humana too... we're switching from one Humana plan to a really crappy Humana plan. It's all about what type of plan you have with them.
That stinks! Sorry you have to deal with that. Insurance can be such a pain at times.
Nothing out of pocket (we are in the US) execpt for a $16/day charge while I was in recovery. The bill was about $60,000 after my c-section so I'm really happy we have such great insurance. My H is active duty Army and they cover everything for pregnancy. I even delivered off base at a civilian hospital.
Wow, some of you have awesome insurance... What insurance do you have that totals $0 for L&D? Are your plans employer based? I know some of you mentioned you are on military plans or Canadian, but besides those... I need to hear how people are getting such great deals?
I'm not sure on all that 'employer subsidized' business...Besides my spelled out coverage, I'm kind of an insurance 'idiot'. I work for a privately owed Illinois-based scrap metal recycling company. I did hear that it costs the company a lot of money to have our insurance plan, so I'm going to assume that is what people are talking about when they say employer subsidized. Correct me if I'm wrong.
Just like last time, our insurance covers everything except if we opt for circumcision that will not be completely covered. Otherwise we pay nothing for any of the prenatal care, L&D, or care for our LO. We pay for good coverage, so it's not like it actually is free but yes we feel happy and lucky to have such good benefits.
This one's already cost us more than that just in co-pays. I have no idea what we'll end up paying but our max OOP is $3,000 so shouldn't be more than that. Hopefully, we won't have to pay that much.
On average my last 3 births cost us @$1500 each out of pocket and that's because my midwife is out of network and our insurance wouldn't accept our out of network waiver request. Otherwise my insurance would have paid it all. Also, I do homebirths and the only testing I do is a 20 week anatomy scan (insurance covered all of this but maybe $30 and it was a 3D plus DVD) and then the PCU newborn test.
I'm in the US, with DS my only out of pocket was for my prenatal vit copay so I spent $30 total. This time I have a new job & insurance. I will pay a $300 hospital admission fee. Not bad at all
Guys...just remember that if the costs are sky high, you can have an unassisted home birth. Just skype with one of the BTDT moms on the board, they'll walk you through it.

$13. A two-day charge for the tv which we didn't turn on once. So dumb.
Everything else was covered, from all of my prenatal appts through L&D and my 6-week pp check-up.
I turned my tv on-it was worth it ;-) All of my other bills were covered at 100% though.
1st pregnancy: m/c began 1/12/09 d&c 1/13/09 8wks. Baby stopped growing at about 6wks.
with DS we paid almost $7k because I was on DH's super sucky woman hating insurance. This time around we are on my insurance and my Out of Pocket Max is $1000. I can hardly wait to pay the bill I'm so excited! (I'm actually kind of serious about this, I'm a nerd and insurance and retirement can really whip me into a frenzy)!
My actual L&D cost around $125 I think, but the week-long hospital stay at 33weeks ran us $1200. DS either had a $13 copay or nothing. I'm not really sure because his was billed through the pediatrician's office and I didn't really examine the bills at that point.
Though, we were prepared to pay extra for a suite. There weren't any available when we checked-in though. Oh and we paid for parking which ended up being fucking expensive.
We paid $0! Not even for parking! Plus since we have to travel more then 40kms for doctor appointments and delivery we can write off all of the medical travel/ hotel at tax time!
It's insane what you girls have to pay down south of us just to have a baby!
About $500 I believe. I am still covered under my Dads insurance and it covers all but 20% and apparently that's it. I went natural with no epidural so I'm sure that cut back on costs as well. Insurance is very confusing. :-S
I have a $600 deductible and $1,000 out of packet max. Which sounds great because we ended up paying over $3k due to an extra night stay while DS was in the NICU.
I'll end up paying $200 exactly. I have 100% insurance coverage after a $100 deductible. So I paid $100 of my first doctor bill in October, and then nothing else. I'll be billed another $100 for my January appointment, because it's 2014 now, and my insurance will cover the rest. Pretty sweet deal if you ask me! The insurance even bought me a nice Medela breast pump...fully covered. I'm very curious as to what the full cost is before insurance- I know my doctor is pricey as is the hospital I chose.
FTM but we'll end up paying $0 since my husband is active duty military. Whenever I hear other military spouses complain about Tricare it always amazes me...it's really great insurance for FREE (if you choose prime).

This! Parking is crazy. We can pay about $195 for a private room but where I delivered all the rooms were private, and our extended medical covers most of the cost for a private room.
Had many lengthy conversations with my insurance company this week to clarify this, but $250 for L&D and a $20 copay for every ob visit. I'm feeling extremely relieved and happy about all that!
Nothing with Medicaid (happened to have my first when my husband was out of the marines, and then decided to go back in), and nothing with tricare. This time its going to be 1000+, we make 238 dollar payments every month which is crazy but I started seeing them four months in bc I traded offices. We have blue cross now. Its worth it, all though I had to put in on credit last month. ):

When we had DD DH was in the reserves and we had Tricare reserve. We paid 1/3 of what we pay monthly now and it was still excellent insurance. I miss it. I can't believe how much people complain about Tricare.

We ended up paying around $3500 for DS. Then I got new insurance for myself so DD was $500 and this one will be $500. I am lucky to have a $0 deductible/copay plan for myself, but we'll have to pay LOs $500 deductible.
$0 for the actual delivery/hospital stay, but we did have to pay about $50 or so for the parking plus about $20 for the Timmie's sandwiches, drinks and crullers that my DH brought me a few times because the hospital food sucked!!
