What do you call it?

Binky, paci, soother, noonie, etc. Some of you may use a few of these, but what is the word you use most often when referring to a pacifier (to other adults). Think of it like if you were sitting next to a stranger in a public place. Your LO accidentally drops the pacifier on the ground. You say to the stranger, "Oh! That darn _________! It always falls!". Also, where are you from?

I call it a "soother" most often. Ontario Canada here.

ETA: I had never heard "binky" until I watched Toddlers in Tiaras for the first time. My in-laws in Pennsylvania say "binky" also.

I voted ss. Initially, I didn't want to use a pacifier so my thought process was to call it "pacifier" and not make it "cute". Well now I can't live without the things so whatever name rolls off the tongue. Pacifier, paci (least favorite), blinky, bink, chupi, chupo(Spanish), sucky thingy (how I imagine LO would call it).

Well, I'm an idiot. I read this as mother fockers and didn't understand the point other than randomness. I get it now.

LO won't take one but we call it either a binky or a pacifier now. My mom called mine a fa fa when I was little. Might be a Midwest thing? Or a crazy mom thing most likely

I saw "paci" to the baby but "pacifier" to other adults. We always called it a binky growing up, and my mom still does, so every once in awhile I say that too.

I say pacifier. My grammar nerd heart is swelling at your use of an apostrophe in "Paci'".

And then spent several minutes deciding the proper placement of said apostrophe along with quotations and period in my reply.

My awesome mother in law calls herself a "motherfaker". She tries to soothe Auli with the rocking chair and lullabyes. But Auli knows it's her and not me. My MIL is hilarious!

Also... I see 3 votes for "soother", and only two people (myself included) have spoken up. Who's the other voter?

Soother and Ontario here as well. Though it's a "soo" in our house now, which is what DS1 called it when he started to talk.

My MIL calls it his "plug". That drives me nuts.

Soother and Ontario here as well. Though it's a "soo" in our house now, which is what DS1 called it when he started to talk. My MIL calls it his "plug". That drives me nuts.

ETA: I just remembered that DH calls breastfeeding "plugging her in". As in, when Auli is crying he says, "plug her in".

I call it a binky, actually "binky-bink" to DD, but to adults I usually just say pacifier. But the plug thing reminded me that a friend had a pacifier for her LO that said "Mute Button". Totally tacky, but pretty funny at the same time.

I bought that thing for a friend. It was her DDs favourite soother of all time. It was an impulse buy item at the checkout in the baby department of Sears.

I'm a SS. LO will not take one no matter what, so I really don't call it anything. But I would call it a binky or a pacifier if I did.

I call it a paci to DS and sometimes DH. To other adults I just say pacifier. I live in Missouri.

I call it a pacifier. I only use "paci" when writing (as in, a list of things to pack). Dh often calls it a "sucker," which works great until wet use the word in public and get weird looks.
eta: I didn't hear the term "binky" until i was in high school.

Because the question mentioned talking to a stranger in public I had to go with pacifier. If I'm talking to dh, mom, dad or mil it's paci. Orlando, FL here

I voted paci' because that is what I hear adults call it most often. DS has 3 wubbanubs. Each one has a name and we call them by name. Giles the giraffe, Monty the monkey, and Rupert the elephant.

On the coast of NC and use "paci". Never heard noonie or dummy. A lot of people say binky, including me sometimes.

I voted SS.. I say pacifier, paci or Fooler. Fooler is what my mom has always called it. All 3 come out pretty equally but I try to use pacifier with strangers. TN/GA here (where I'm from and then live now)

My MIL called it "nip" to start off but I really don't like that so I'm trying to change it to paci. I like the one syllable thing.

We use paci and binky interchangeably , I tend to say bink because if he's to the point of needing a pacifier I am usually flustered and yelling to DH that I need a bink. We live in New York. My MIL and FIL say plug... I'm not a fan of that.

This. We got ultra clever over here and call the duck wubbanub, "ducky," and the elephant wubbanub, "Ellie." Ground breaking stuff, I know. We also call it a paci. My dad calls it her noonie and the ILs say binky. We are all from Western Pa.

We call it a paci with the kids but if I was talking to an adult , other than DH, using the example you gave I would call it a pacifier. I'm from Wisconsin, but we live in Michigan.
