February 2014 Moms

short & pregnant

Just curious if there's any other ladies besides myself that are finding it a little extra difficult to reach things more than norm. I prob looked like a little kid with a ball under my shirt trying to reach my prenatal pills the other day....oh & I'm 4' 11"

She thought she'd get super special treatment and extra special sympathy because she's SMALL.

So she clearly has it worse than everyone else.

  • OP, pregnancy is funny, if you aren't up for that attitude, then perhaps you need to find people who share your, pregnancy is serious viewpoint, because we are all pretty much cynical over that way of thinking.  Yes it's hard to reach stuff when you are pregnant, there is always someone in your way regardless of height.

  • I'm 6ft tall. My hips and back never hurt. My bump never gets in the way. Bending over is super fun, especially to get things out of my grocery cart or washing machine. And reaching? Nbd. Reaching's my favorite!

    Uh, welcome to pregnancy?

  • Just to be clear wasn't trying to have a bad additude about being pregnant or short, was honestly just looking for light heartedness or funny stories. And def wasn't trying to make myself "extra special" because I'm short. So sorry if it at all came out like that. Just trying to make friends, not make people annoyed with me

I used to belly dance and am pretty sure 90% of the stuff we did would kill me right now.

But seriously, OP.  No one can bend with a pregnant belly, except super wonder unicorn pregnant ladies.

  • Query: I'm just shy of 5'6". Do I go with the short people or the tall people?
    image

(OP, you're just gonna have to laugh with everyone and ride this one out.)

I'm 5' 7 1/2". I think the half tips me over, right? I also have freakishly long arms, so there's that. I'm usually the person who gets asked to reach something off the top shelf by old ladies at the grocery store, and I've been crossing everything that no one will ask me lately. Because it ain't happening.
Oh, you're definitely on team tall.

My tiny t-rex arms will be pouting in the corner. I am never asked to reach things (except when standing next to my 5'1" mother).
Not team tall, team Because Not Small....

I'm the team not small in my family coming in at a massive 5'6.  Seriously, next to my sisters, I'm the Khloe.

@bookshelves Do you have an inch or two of arm sticking out of your long sleeves at all times?  If so, I can relate.  Ape arms.
  • Am I in the minority in that I can still bend down and touch my toes, the floor etc? I can't straighten back up again mind, so its not something I attempt unless its vitally important.....like I dropped peanut m & m's on the floor and the bag is now empty :)
  • @cksmith29 Yep, it's hereditary. Here's a picture of my mom and I when I was a child.

    image

    =)) =)) cannot. stop. laughing!!!
    image
  • I'm realllyyyyy small. like so small, DH almost steps on me and crushes me. LO and I will co-sleep when she's born but in her bassinet, not in the big bed. I don't want to get lost in the covers.

OP you may have gotten more of the response you were looking for if you actually said "does anyone have any funny stories about not being able to reach something" instead of "blah blah blah I'm really short and have a ball for a belly."

Bending over doesn't happen without Tums first, mostly I just tell people I can't bend over anymore because pregnant haha.

  • When I drop stuff I used to pop a squat with my belly between my knees like a bad music video dance move. Then baby's head got all up in my biz and that would make it feel like he's about to bust outta there x 5000 so now I use one of those robot arm grabber things that annoying 6 year old boys use to terrorize their sisters. Works for up-high stuff too!

  • I think we all are. It's not just "because small". I promise you.

  • Can I get in on this. I know I have an outside baby now, but when I was pregnant I was still able to shave my legs. Bending sucked and many timse if I dropped food on the floor I left it for my dog. Oh I am also super short(4"10'). I would love to ask some of you ladies to reach things for me. I usually climb :)

  • I made my boss bend over and pick up my pen that I dropped in the middle of a big presentation. She had to crawl under the table. She owed me anyway since the big butt comment.
