UO Thursday

Since it is officially Thursday... Let's hear 'em ladies!

1. Our church always throws a baby shower for each lady who is expecting. Only thing is they always schedule it right around the due date. I really don't want them to schedule mine that close to my due date, because I would rather know what I am getting and what I still need before LO gets here. My friend had her baby before her baby shower was even scheduled. I am scared that will happen to me. I want to nest and I can't because DH wants to wait and see what we are getting from the showers and then buy what ever else we are still needing. I want it all to be ready now, lol.

2. There is nothing wrong with wearing yoga pants as maternity pants. They are way cheaper and do the same thing. I've been wearing them since I discovered a sale on Black Friday.

  • I totally agree with pp about piercing baby's ears. I don't see how it isn't abuse?!?! If we inflicted that pain on a child for any other reason wouldn't that be abuse? Is it ok cos it's seen as "pretty"?
Having said that- it's 100% not my business what others do with their daughters and piercing, but my daughter got hers done when she was 9 as she kept asking and I wasn't allowed to get mine done til I was 18.
This LO is a girl and she sure as hell won't be getting them til she asks and understands that it will hurt and that they need to be looked after.
  • I have another one. Even though i think it's bratty to complain about ppl organising showers for you, I am still totally stressing out that my friend tells me all is fine and invites will be put this week for 2/2 BUT I KNOW she doesn't even have all the addresses yet as there are a few I haven't forwarded yet and she hasn't asked.
I think id rather not have one as now I'm just all pregnant anxious about it.
  • On the note of baby showers, I have two people that are supposed to be planning my baby shower and who both told me not to worry about anything except to give them the addresses but now I am expected to come out of pocket to pay for the cake (my baby shower is Saturday) so as of now I don't have a cake.... Am I wrong for thinking this is totally crazy?

No you're not wrong! I've never heard of that. Did they maybe not realize how expensive it is and need help or are they just putting it off on you??

    Anniversary

  • I know everyone gets pissed when their provider reschedules appointments at the last moment. So. Let me tell you.

Last night I checked my schedule and for the THIRD TIME IN A ROW the scheduler put patients in during my MW visit. I had told her to block off that time. And then I told my manager that I had told her to block off that time. And then my manager reminded her AGAIN to block off that time (because, obviously, this is a recurring issue).

    AND SHE STILL SCHEDULED ME.

OK, this is more of a Bitchfest Monday but my UO is that I am frustrated to the point of not giving a flying eff. She (the scheduler) is going to be canceling my afternoon clinic (again!) and I am NOT going to feel guilty. Even though it means I'm making my patients do the same thing (reschedule an appointment) that I refuse to do.

    Uuuuuuuggggghhhhhhh. So frustrated.

  • People who always seem to have gone through what you are going through, but their story is better and they come of as all knowing, because when it happen to them, it couldn't possibly had happened to you that way. And I just can't believe people flock to them.

  • I got my ears pierced in kindergarten and then many many years later In high school got the second one done. The second ones are definitely closed up, and I was "more responsible" then lol. I do see some babies with pierced ears and it seems like they might be too young, but it might be part of their culture too!

On a side note, it's only 7:45 and I don't go in until 2 and it's snowing. And I know it will stop. Lame to call out, right?

My ears got done when I was around 5 I think? They've never closed even though I never wear earrings.

I'm having a girl and haven't decided what I'm going to do yet. If you want to then do it and if you don't then don't- it's simple. I don't need to judge anyone who gets it done for their LO
  • If i had it my way we would be piercing her ears young around 1 or 2. But my husband flat out refuses right now.

My mom left it up to me and i was to terrified to do it so i waited until i was 15 and always regretted it because i wanted yo wear the cute earrings like everyone else. Thats my real reason for wanting to do her ears so young. Vain i know!! =]

My UO is that i know showers are a gift but i wish they were having food i want to eat. They are serving sandwhiches...why can't it be hashbrowns and hamburger helper (thats all i crave these days!!) its silly but at least i get cake!

  • I grew up outside of town where everyone has their own well for water. Some city water tastes absolutely terrible!! This is why I go for bottled water when I'm not at home...
  • Oh on the tap water thing-- i'm all for drinking it. However, i'm from the houston area and it is awful!! I mean the worst water you will ever drink. Absolutely dreadful!

We bottle and have a filtered pitcher. I want to get a filtered bottle that i can take with me.
And this is less because i am creating waste and more because i am spending a ton of money on water.

I hate tap water. I really think it tastes disgusting. I am a huge water snob and just can't make myself drink it.
Uh oh! I hate when people only drink bottled water. Most tap water is not only safe but better regulated than bottled water. I think it's irresponsible to create so much unnecessary waste with all those plastic bottles.

We have a well and the water just doesn't taste good. So we go to BJs and buy the huge 5 gallon jugs and use those for drinking. But we also return them when they are empty so they get reused. I rarely buy the plastic bottles but when I do, I use them over and over again or recycle them.

I like this solution! I'm a total hippie when it comes to most green things, and it makes me really upset to think about the waste that comes from plastic bottles. I'll buy a bottle if I'm out and need it, but I hate the thought of people having bottled water at home. Especially if they don't recycle! There are lots of ways to drink water at home without it being from the tap, if you really don't like the tap water.
  • I hate piercing kiosks in the mall. I will never, never ever let my children go to one. If theyn want a peircing, be it ears, nose, bellybutton, they can wait until they are old enough to go to a professional studio. I'm a huge piercing/tattoo snob. Kiosks are so unsanitary and unsafe I can't even imagine why they still exist. A studio is much cleaner, they use disposable needles (as opposed to gun that can't be cleaned), less risk of injury and infection, the have more training... I can go on and on.

Also, if my kids turn 16 and say they want a body piercing, if they can pay for it, then I fully intend on taking them to get one. I had seven by the time I was 18. They're removable and can eventually close up. I see no problem with it.

  • Growing up we didn't have city water and it all came from cisterns. You couldn't drink it so you had those massive bottles delivered (like at an office) for a cooler. When I was in high school the local grocery stores started having refillable stations and that made it a lot easier!

But it completely spoiled me because I like my water ice cold like it came out of the cooler.
  • @samjustice, I don't see an issue with CERTAIN body piercings. The ones I have a problem with are those that 'stretch' (I am totally out of the loop on what they are called!) your ears or nose or whatever and have that bolt-looking thing in them. Wow do I sound old!! I refer to them as CLM's....or Career Limiting Moves. An individual will most likely not be able to get a professional job in a conservative type workplace if they have some big gaping hole in their face from a piercing they got in their teenage years...or worse if they are still wearing said bolt in their face. Honestly same goes for large visible tatoos on the neck or lower arm. I think that at 16-18 you can make a lot of decisions, but in a lot of respects you are still an immature child at that point when it comes to something that will affect the rest of your life. Not you, personally, but you as in the general population.
  • I hate driving. I live in a big city, and public transportation is a big reason I like living here. Right now I drive to work every day, because it's an awkward location where it takes 25 minutes to drive, but about 90 on the train (or really, the 3 trains!). I'm glad we have a car, for things like Target or grocery runs, but I hate that right now I drive our car pretty much daily. And don't even get me started about parking on he street in our neighborhood. But that's a bitchfest Monday kind of thing, so I'll try to hold it in! :)

I really dislike body piercings. I don't have a problem with people doing it if they want, I just find them revolting. I have no idea why.

eta: I don't know why I said that - I do know why. I have a puncture phobia. The thought of something piercing your skin makes me want to vomit.
  • My UO for the day is in regard to my dr practice. I know it's standard to meet all the dr's in the practice in case your normal one isn't on call the night/day you deliver. Personally it's a huge PITA for me though because I have to adjust my work schedule around meeting these different dr's when I made it completely clear that I could care less who does my c/s. I think if I was having a normal birth I may feel differently because I would want someone who was supportive and that I 'liked' but given that I'll be behind the little half curtain with virtually no contact with the dr, my only concern is that it isn't their first rodeo. Other than that I could care less who does the surgery! I know it's policy so it's kinda just how it is, but it annoys me!
  • I don't like Girl Scout cookies.

  • I have another one:

I hate using The Bump. I can't tell who is who on my phone (since there are no siggys) and I am rarely on my computer. It is just a pain in the ass. I can't wait until the FB group starts becoming more active.

  • I love tap water, mostly bc I like water just below room tempterature, I don't like ice or really cold water!  I do drink from bottled water bc of conveinance and do reuse water bottles... I hate to create the garbage from the bottles but mostly I hate spending the money for them!

I think little girls with earrings are so cute, but I don't have to worry about when/if to pierce as I'm an all boy mom... well my 13 yr old wants to pierce his ears thankfully in GA you have to be 16 or have a parents permission.  I don't mind if boys do but I think he needs to be older so 16 sounds about right...

My UO for the day: I think almost all diaper bags are ugly and a huge unnecessary expense.  I'm not big on purses either so I just don't get it.. plus my dh is going to probably be the daytime care giver so I prefer plain/black bag to big floral, colorful, pastel, lime green (yuck!), etc...

@kelley72 we are water twins. I HATE ice water!  And I only drink water out of a bottle or with a straw!  So I have several re-usable straw-cups at home and work!  I also LOVE my Camelbak bottle.  Since BFP I drink 6-7 of them/day!  bottles, straws...no ice. only way to drink water!
No! Straw + ice all the way; THAT is how you drink water ;)

  • Not sure if this is a UO or FFFC...oh well.

One of my friends has a toddler whose favorite show is currently Doc McStuffins. His birthday is coming up and even though it's his favorite show, his dad refuses to let him have a Doc McStuffins birthday party because it's "too girly" and people will make fun of him.

I think that's BULLSHIT. Your son doesn't give a crap if the show is too girly, he's three. He just knows he likes Doc and he likes her talking animals. It would be super easy to have a Doc McStuffins birthday party for him. I hate that he's not allowed to like what he likes because you don't consider is masculine enough.

Ds loooooooooooves doc mcstuffins!!! (Stupid DH got him hooked on that, octanauts and Henry juggle monster. The ass hole.)
My UO is I really like the Octonauts and Henry Hugglemonster. He's roarsome. lol ;)

I also don't like feeling pressured to buy GS cookies from friends...
Unfortunately I love the cookies but also don't really like the idea Girl/Boy Scouts.  Plus it's hard saying no to the adorable little girls asking me to buy cookies as I'm leaving the grocery store.  So that's my excuse about how I end up buying and eating at least 5 boxes of girl scout  cookies every year.

  • @ariaamante143, I think they are called gauges! I 100% agree with you that they are gross...but even more than that, you are totally right that people are going to have a tough time taking you seriously in a business setting if you have some big a** hole in your face.

Also let me add to this...I think mohawks or faux-hawks on people older than college-age look absolutely ridiculous. I was at a luncheon yesterday that was bankers, lawyers and accountants and there was one guy in his 30's whose hairstyle was very obviously some sort of mohawk when he wasn't in a suit. He looked beyond ridiculous. You're in your 30's dude...get over it, you aren't a punk rocker!

Stretched ears, I think, are fine to a certain point. I'd they stay small enough (say, the diameter of a pencil), they will close right back up as a normal piercing would. You would never tell. I had a roommate who had eara stretched to two inches and it was absolutely disgusting. And I totally had a hoop in my septum for a very long time hahaha. It was a small one, but cute :) I don't have any right now, though. Took them all out for work and they all pretty much closed up during one shift.

As for tattoos, I hate face, neck, and hand tattoos. However, my bank teller and a pharmacist we visit both have full sleeves their hands up. I'm personally waiting until I get my dream job before I tattoo any where highly visible or impossible to keep covered, like my forearms.

oh, 3 of my 4 boys have participated in cub scouts, one is now doing boyscouts... it really is a wonderful organization and just like many things the overall common opinion/belief is scewed by several really poor decisions/actions, etc. by a few individuals.  Anyway... My son loves the activities he is able to participate in and I have no issues with the religious theme of scouts.

I have a hard time saying no to the cookie sales... I end up buying way too much every year

  • I think people who go to party stores and buy all the matching crap to go with their party theme are crazy and unoriginal. That junk is expensive, and it all just gets thrown away! Plus, I think party tables look awful when every plate, cup, napkin, tablecloth & centerpiece is covered with pictures of whatever theme is being done.

Also? I hate goody bags that are full of useless, crappy toys. If people would put just a little bit of time into their planning, they could come up with some great favors that probably cost less and are actually put to use! I'd rather my kid come home with a decorated cookie than a bag o' crap that I'm just going to throw away.

  • My UO is that I do not like the beach. I hate the feeling of sand and I always feel dirty when I leave. The water is usually freezing as well. I am definitely a pool girl.
  • @laura8388, I could be making this up but I thought I remembered reading an article that stated that a Pit Bull's original 'job' was a therapy dog because they are incredibly tolerant and patient. Also the list of dogs that tend to attack or bite the most does not even include pitbull's in the top whatever. It does however include many smaller breeds like a chihauha. I think it is totally dependent upon the particular dog! I have a chow-chow lab mix. chow's are not traditionally friendly, family dogs and people were shocked that we would consider adopting her when we planned to have a family...they are up on the list of those not allowed in many kennels in my area (along with pitbulls). She is the most patient, tolerant sweet dog I have ever seen.
