Re: UO Thursday

  • Yup. Was just going to say this. My best friend has a scar above her lip from where her pet bit her because she accidentally startled the dog. The dog was not a pit.
Hell, jack (my tub o love) gets startled and will attack. Maybe he's an aggressive breed of cat.
My mothers Purebreed Westhighland Terrier (yep, those cute fluffy white dogs from the little Cesar's commercials) is a SIX time unprovoked biter.   She is in serious denial about the need to put him down - it's bad enough that my siblings and I have had serious conversations about giving him an overdose.  Anyway, yeah - you cannot know from looking at an animal which one is dangerous.  He's the cutest thing you've ever seen and I wouldn't let him near a kid on a dare.

  • I agree with @Kacie - but only to a limit.  While physical appearance shouldn't be a deciding factor on job performance, I think it depends on the job.  I wouldn't want an OB who had a tattoo on their face or neck.  It would be hard to take her/him seriously.   That being said my husband has gauged ears and a labret piercing.  I think it is hot.  It was one of the things that attracted me to him.

Also, I love girl scout cookies.  I don't give a shit whether you pierce your kid's ears or not.  But if you do think it is "abuse" then you better not be considering circumcision either.

    My UO:
I hate the beard craze.  I like my husband's facial hair when it is nicely groomed.  Lately he has been on the stupid beard-bandwagon.  He looks homeless or like a fat Jesus.  I don't see the appeal or why anyone would want to look like Duck Dynasty.  You don't look cool, you look like a serial killer.

It's one of those skin stretchers ( like they put in ear lobes) but in the lower lip and you see through to the teeth. It makes me hurt just thinking about it
The ones that go in the earlobe reek. Omfg they stink if you don't wash them everyday. My girlfriend has them and she said she can smell them on herself even after washing them out.

I can imagine! When I wear screw back earrings they smell after a couple of days.
  • I'm sick and tired of going to my endocrinologist for my diabetes! It's an hour drive one way, and all they do is look at my numbers (which I already fax them every week) and tell me everything is looking good! I just saw my OB (another hour drive) yesterday, and she checked my sugar levels. They are fine. I hate that I have to pay $50 every time I see the Endo. I'm only doing it because I know if I don't, and there is something wrong with LO, I wouldn't be able to live with myself. I just feel it's a waste of time and $$!!

My mom has a Chihuahua. Vicious, old, and ill tempered. She's bitten me once and my two year old on more occasions than I can count. We have to throw her in the basement whenever my mom leaves the house because I said if that rat so much as growls at my kid again, I'm pressing charges. My mother doesn't believe it, since the dog is an angel when she's around. And it barks at everything. We cant have company over so she barks and growls until well after they leave. I've seriously never hated an animal so much before.

I would trust my son around my aunt's dogs (2 boxers, a german shepherd, and a pit) before this dog.

So I fully believe it's the dog, not the breed.

  • You guys are going to hate my UO! but here it is:

I think that a handful of our really regular posters can be very judge-y / trollish at times. We all say things that don't come across correctly since this is an internet forum and it's really easy to take things as bitchy or complain-y or whatever when they really aren't. I wish that we could all be a bit nicer to each other, and if someone else's post rubs us the wrong way, either ignore it or ask for clarification before saying something less than kind. On the same note, we do get a lot of repeat topics but rather than flame that person (unless they are purposely being rude/lazy about finding an answer) either ignore them or give them a valid response.....we are all here because we want a chance to be heard and we want each other's input. lets be nice :)

  • @AlexisDKruse - I love my husband with a beard and mustache - when it is trimmed nicely it looks great.  Without a beard and mustache he looks like he is 12.  But, I don't like it when it is all long and bushy like Paul Bunyan.

I think men with facial hair can be very attractive.  But, the Duck Dynasty look is not hot.

  • Here's my UO: I'm not really into personal blogs.

Regarding the ongoing ear piercing debate, I'll play: if you pierce your baby's ears for cultural reasons, fine.  But if you just do it because it looks pretty, I think it's kinda mean.  I just don't want to put my baby girl through any unnecessary pain.  If she wants to get her ears pierced whenever, that's fine, but I'm not going to make the decision for her.
Also, I had a friend come over the other night and her pacifier clip got caught on the earring and pulled it pretty hard.  The poor baby was crying and her ear was all red afterwards.  :(

  • I think I should add that I am a HUGE supporter of the scouts, and have 'green blood', lol. (girl scout color is green). I think that maybe if you haven't ever been a scout, you wouldn't appreciate the activities and experience the kids get from the program. The media doesn't do a great job of explaining what the scouts really do.

As a kid, I did the troop thing for awhile then just registered as an individual member so I could do the council-wide activities and summer camp. I must say, it was hands-down the best thing I ever did. I learned all kinds of things with girls my own age and leaders who were role models (CPR, science, engineering, leadership, etc). more importantly, I learned proper social interactions with kids of all ages. I had a hard time fitting in at school and the scouts really helped. Every girl at camp (my fav activity!) felt she was important, a leader, and made a lot of friends. I even met my best friend of 22 years at camp :)  To each her own, but I think every girl should give scouts a try...maybe not the troop thing but at least the camps or big council activities. they were just so much fun!

I really dislike body piercings. I don't have a problem with people doing it if they want, I just find them revolting. I have no idea why.

eta: I don't know why I said that - I do know why. I have a puncture phobia. The thought of something piercing your skin makes me want to vomit.
@babylimas: Just curious: Body piercings, like even the ears or just other parts?  I personally wouldn't pierce anything besides my ears but I don't really care if other people do.  I don't like the gauged piercing though.  Yucky.

I was a Girl Scout growing up, my UO had nothing to do with the organization, I just don't like the taste of the cookies! I'm more of an Oreo gal anyway.

And this would be a FFFC, but I just skipped every post on here about dogs and piercings. (and maybe because I have a huge irrational fear about piercings. I don't even have my ears pierced because I'm terrified of them getting ripped out).

  • I hate watching movies. Every time someone wants to, I just think about how I'm going to be bored and anxious for the next 2 hours. Theaters and 3D movies are even worse.
OMG ME TOO.  DH thinks I'm so weird because I hate movies.

  • I guess my opinion about the ear piercing stems from me being a total sook. I nearly cried EVERY time DS had his immunisations so I cannot possibly even entertain putting my baby through pain for no good reason.
And this is why my LO will definitely not have hers done until she asks.
My husband is Australian Aboriginal so I get and respect cultural things- but I still think I wouldn't agreed to it if it was in his culture either. And he is such a softie that he wouldn't let our LO go through any unnecessary pain either.

I also wouldn't even dream if asking my dr when it was ok to pierce lo's ears.
Pretty sure in Australia a lot of us aren't into that kind of thing. Having said that we are also very multicultural so there would definitely be ppl that do it for cultural reasons here.

I don't think "everyone on death row did really horrible things beyond a doubt." I'm aware that wrongful executions have occurred and that death row inmates have been exonerated based upon DNA evidence, prosecutorial misconduct, etc. I'm also aware that various states sentence defendants to death for crimes other than murder. With the case at issue, the Defendant allegedly struggled to breathe for 10 minutes. That must have been horrible. However, I can guarantee you that the young woman he raped, stabbed twice, and murdered suffered an exceptionally more painful death. This deadbeat made a choice and he had to suffer the consequence which, in the state of Ohio, meant death. Frankly, I don't believe people that have zero regard for the lives of others deserve to live the remainder of their lives in humane conditions. Did something probably go wrong with the administration of the lethal injection in this case? Probably. I think it's semi-ironic that this POS had to suffer in light of what he did to the victimS in this case.

Oh believe me.. I have done tons of research on the death penalty. My major is Criminal Justice. (Currently I am planning on finishing my degree after LO is born.) I am for the death penalty in certain cases (not all) and this one I was for it. I am sorry I have no compassion for him suffering for 10 minutes (which hasn't been proven yet). It sounds like we pretty much agree on his the outcome of his execution.

I think it is dumb to pierce a babies ears. You obviously aren't doing it for your child, do you really feel the need to use your baby as a human accessory? Wait til they want to do it, that way they appreciate it more! There is always bracelets and cute shoes :)

    @maddeegal
There are other reason why people get little girls pierced ears. It's not always a "fashion statement" A lot of people do it for cultural and religious reasons. With that being said I will have my LO ears pierced because in my culture it's the norm, I wasn't brought up with the "American culture" but I will also have very cute shoes. :)
People seem to have taken mine a little more as an attack. If people do it I don't find it to be a huge deal or anything. If it is your culture than I will not say one thing against it. I just know a few people who do it plainly because they are setting their sweet daughters up to be what I refer to as "professional teenagers." I don't hate people who do it, I just personally think it is unnecessary. If you have a reason that makes it necessary then go ahead. I just think babies look cuter without them, they keep that little innocent, "I was just born," look! I'm not letting either of my girl until they can ask, but I'm not gonna tell others not to. :)

Yucky.
I don't mind ear piercings. Where I grew up out of the country it was common to have lots of ear piercings (I used to have 3 which was very minimal, some of my friends had 10 in each ear). We would add them in with ice at slumber parties. I don't think I really saw other piercings until I was older, which might play into why I find them icky.

I also used to have a belly button piercing, but I kept it for just a few months when I was 17.
