While I completely agree with the restaurant asking them to leave, I am very surprised that the Chef went on Twitter to announce it. I feel like he should have stayed out of it.

I wonder if the parents were upset that they were asked to leave?
Maybe they should just post a sign that says kids under a certain age aren't allowed. I guess the restaurant assumed no one would bring a baby to their upscale eatery.

If they were upset, they have no reason to be so. It is common sense that you don't take a baby to a high-end restaurant. It is known.

I didn't know Melting Pot was a chain until recently. There's one underground in downtown Portland, and the entrance to that one was the only one I had seen before. Fondue does not call to me, so I've never been.

The Melting Pot I went to was attached to a mall... in Tucson AZ....No idea if it's still there, this was several years ago.

Really, if I go to any restaurant with a bar, I sit in the bar if the girls aren't with me.

I mean, the rule of thumb is obviously that if a restaurant offers a kid's menu, it's a family-friendly restaurant.

If it does not, then maybe you should reconsider going there with a child.

This is not rocket science.

Did this actually happen and wasn't staged or anything? I don't doubt there are people out there with so little common sense that they would do this. I agree that a baby shouldn't have been in that restaurant, but all of these inflammatory viral messages/actions from business owners are making me roll my eyes lately.

Who wants to be with their kid so much that they would go to an even semi-nice restaurant with them? The only times we've done that with DD is because my ILs were in town.

And she was actually pretty good.

But yeah, if I'm paying $50+ per person, I can afford a babysitter.

I'm probably mildly insane for admitting this, but I don't really mind other people bringing their kids out. I have an expectation of dealing with kid drama or leaving, but other than that I find the mess and noise comforting. Plus kids are hella cute. Knowing that I'm extra tolerant, I tend to sit near people with kids or get behind them in line at Target so I can be nice to them and they can relax a bit.

My own kids are demons so I try not to take them out for meals, even in mall-adjacent locations. But we have been known to pop in for a happy hour here and there when we can be in and out quickly in a noisy place. I have a weakness for martinis made by someone else.

Loud kids don't bother me. Even pre-kid, screaming on a plane didn't phase me. I like to make faces at kids in public, lol.

Wasn't here yesterday, just saw post & haven't read through anything

My first thought was, Hell To The NO would I want my kid at a restaurant like that. First, I don't want to pay for $45 mac n cheese (which I'm joking because I doubt they have a kids menu) Secondly, I'd assume they have a wonderful wine list and I'd want DH and I to indulge with out our kids around. So my vote is no kids but not for other patrons strictly for myself

I live in an area with a lot of high end dingin options. I don't think little kids belong at them.

1) I won't pay a lot of money for food my kid likely won't eat.

2) I wouldn't want to be out at a nice place and be eating a fancy meal and have someone else's kid yelling.

There are lots of dingin options for parents with little kids. Parents should go there.
