NBR: Important events around due date time

Does anyone else have an important/special event coming up around the time we are expecting our LOs that they'll likely be missing?  My dad turns 60 ON my due date, and my mom would like to plan a surprise party for him.  This is usually right up my alley in terms of the planning and whatnot, but she already knows that I'll be out of commission by then- I'm likely going to be a scheduled c/s prior to my due date b/c of complete previa.  So, I could be either recently PP and recovering from a c/s, or if i get lucky and can try vaginal delivery again, potentially still pregnant.  I'm not interested in trying to dress up and look nice and host at only a few weeks PP from a c/s, or bring my newborn around for everyone to grab at... also not interested in having my water break in front of friends and family from around the state.

So I'm just bummed that there's not much I can do to be there, unless my mom were to plan it extra early or later in the summer, but I wouldn't ask her to do that on my account.  Does anyone else have something they'll be missing because it falls to close to your EDD?

Re: NBR: Important events around due date time

  • I'll be disowned if I miss my mother's 50th on May 25th. My EDD is 5/2, but we will be having a RCS. Our new Dr is saying 39 weeks. Our original Dr, who delivered our first, had no issues with 38 weeks since I went into labor naturally at 38w1d with DD1. I would really like that one less week of pregnancy, and one more week of healing time before our long trip for the party. I'd also like to not endure labor again since DD1 was an elective CS to begin with. But things will happen how they do, and if we can't schedule for 38w I'll probably go into labor again anyways. Recovery really wasn't awful for me the first time. DD arrived Thursday morning, we had our shower that Sunday.

  • My moms birthday is 2 days after my due date. I have no idea how we plan to work around that but my family is pretty flexible so I don't think it'll be an issue.

  • He is due on my birthday :/ which is great, until you take into consideration that every few years Mother's Day lands on May 9th...so I could potentially be doubt screwed lol. Hopefully he plans accordingly like his brother did (EDD Dec 24th) and comes a week early!
  • My Lo is due the day before my brothers birthday .. lucky its only a phone call for me since he lives 4 hours away .. and he's hoping I deliver that day ... Best birthday present ever he is saying lol

  • My little brother graduates from college right around my due date.  It would be a roughly six hour drive to attend, so I am counting myself out of that activity.  Luckily my family is very understanding.

I also would like to take a professional licensing exam in April, but I will be 36 weeks pregnant then.  Made it just past 37 weeks with DS.  Not sure if I want to travel the hour from home at that far in my pregnancy.  Also, this will be my last pregnancy, and I would rather spend it preparing for baby's arrival and just enjoying being pregnant rather than studying whenever I have a few minutes to myself.  Blah, I'm really not sure what my decision will be on this one, and I need to decide by the end of this month.

  • It would have been my mum's 50th birthday on 04/28 and I'm due on 05/04, so there's only a 6 day gap. I have a feeling she may turn up early.

  • My ILs 40th wedding anniversary is the day before I hit 37 weeks. As this is a twin pregnancy I likely won't go past 37 weeks. We were going to plan a huge party for them, but now I don't know what we'll do. I'm hoping my SILs go ahead with the planning and we'll just see where I am when we get there! It's a pretty big deal in DHs family his 2 uncles just had their 40th anniversaries and their kids threw big parties for them so I'm sure MIL is expecting something big.

  • I am hoping for a Mother's Day baby ;;)
  • Not exactly, but DH has to go out of town for work when baby will be less than three weeks old. I'll be on my own for a few days with two small children and a two week old newborn while recovering from a C/S. Feeling a little nervous about that to say the least!

  • We will be missing my cousin's wedding. It is 2 weeks before my EDD but is a 13 hour drive away.
  • My dad scheduled knee surgery for two days after my EDD, in another state. The thing is, my mom will be here and he won't be able to drive himself home from the hospital! Other than that, May is the one month where nobody on either side of the family has a birthday or anniversary.

  • My mom and I are supposed to see Phantom of the Opera 2 weeks before my due date. If I can't make it, one of her friends is going to go with me.

  • I am co-chairing a rather large event on May 10th. We have been organizing and planing for almost a year. My c/s was suppose to be May 7th. I was able to talk my Dr into moving itbto the next Wed, May 14th. Then I realized my hooligans will have PreK and kindergarten graduation on the 20th (3 days after I get home). While I was about to go bat-shit-crazy from the 3 weeks they were just home (today is the first day back to school since Dec 22....Xmas break and then a week of snow days!) I am now excited bc they will have to make up a few days at the end of the year. I am hoping the push back graduation too. I am the room mother for both classes so there a lot to do. Not to mention, indont want to miss it in general.

  • Yes :( my SIL is getting married in Miami FL May 31st. if I end up giving birth on my due date, that will only leave two weeks until her wedding. We live in Ohio so we would probably have to drive something like 20 hours in a car with a two week old baby. We would really love to go but I don't think it's going to work. Plus if I go past my due date, he would be even younger. Its just too much that we would have to plan in too many variables. I wish they would have waited a little longer but oh well.
  • I'm a teacher and due May 31st. My last day of school for the summer is just one week before. I'm hoping to make it that long!! My son was a month early!
  • Mine and my husband's families have a ton of birthdays in May, so I more than likely going to miss out on those parties. My husband's godson's birthday is the day after my due date... I feel bad that we would most likely miss his...
  • I'll likely be missing Easter. I'll be missing my cousin's wedding (Destination, 3 hour flight or 24 hour drive away). I'm bummed, but the welfare of my kid and my sanity are way more important. :)

  • Our 3 year anniversary is May 7th and my cousin's birthday is May 9th.  This LO is due May 8th, so we'll see when she decides to arrive!  We have a 1st birthday party the weekend of May 17th as well, so I'm hoping LO is already here so we can stop by for at least a few minutes.

May is my family's crazy month. I'm due 5/1, followed by Mother's Day, my sister's birthday, my nephew's birthday, my birthday, and the Yankees come to town. I'm almost hoping that I go in late April to give myself a little extra time to get geared up for everything. Worst case scenario, my OB lets me go until 5/9 and I potentially miss out on the Mother's Day gathering and my sisters birthday. The events are all fairly low key, so I can go, looking a hot mess and sit on my butt. My mom and sisters will understand. :)

We'll see what happens. The only "big" thing after that is a destination wedding in August that we may or may not be going to.

  • I'm in a wedding in March and DH turns 30 3 days before my due date!
  • Due date is 5/28 and our wedding anniversary is 5/23.  As much as I'd prefer for DS to have a birthday separate from our anniversary, I know we have no control over that!  We'll just have to wait and see what happens...although, by that point, I'll probably just be ready to give birth and meet the little man! :)

VERY similar situation for me. My due date is May 30 and my sister is getting married on May 25. I agreed to be a bridesmaid prior to getting pregnant because, duh, it's my baby sister! I am also looking at a possible C/S, due to the fact that I have Crohn's disease and have developed and had surgery for fistulas in the past (vaginal deliveries can cause more fistulas to form if you are prone to them). So, like you, I will either be recovering from a C/S, will have delivered naturally (if we end up going that route), or will be heavily pregnant. Luckily though, I'm a teacher, so I will have ample time to recover regardless of what happens.

Still no clue what to do! I really REALLY want to be in the wedding, but I also don't want to be a hindrance to my sister's special day. Hopefully you're able to figure out what works best for you! :)

  • My cousins wedding. He's getting married the week after my due date in Utah and we're on the East coast, so I don't think a 6 hour flight would be doable even if baby decides to come a few weeks early. I'm super bummed for completely shallow reasons. The girl he's marrying is from money and her family is sparing no expense for there only daughter's wedding, so it promises to be a big affair - and while that's not my personal style I love to be a guest at those types of shindigs!   L-)

I'm the MOH at my twin sister's wedding in Chicago 6/6 and my due date is 5/5. We contemplated on driving from NY to Chi, but a lot of people told us that driving for 14 hours with a newborn could be challenging due to feeding and diaper changes and we'd be stopping every couple hours so looks like we might fly with a 4 wk old.

The hospitals here aren't allowed to schedule csection before 39w unless medically necessary. Some babies are just not ready earlier than that. -

With DD, DH was in a wedding in Chicago (2hour flight) 2 days before my csection. With this LO I'm planning on getting tickets to a show 4 days before my csection. I can always give them to a friend if I go in labor early,. My csections are planned at 38w because I can't go into labor. I tried to push my Ob to go to 39w for the LO's sake, but she won't do it, they don't want to risk going into labor.

  • I'm due May 2nd and my birthday is May 5th so we will see how the actually birthday ends up relative to mine but likely I will have just given birth shortly before and wont feel up to much for celebrating.

I will most likely miss my  BFF"s stagette which is scheduled for 2 weeks after my due date.

I'm also bummed because at her wedding LO will probably only be 7-8 weeks old and I want to be able to party like a rock-star but that wont be possible as I am not leaving a baby that young overnight and can't be hammered if I have to come home and do night duty.

  • I'm due a during my husband's medical school finals. We will live :-)
  • Does getting paid for Memorial Day count? I hate having to use vacation and sick pay and therefore having to "waste" a paid holiday. Why didn't I plan this better: after July 4th but before Labor Day. /sigh on me for bad planning.

Oh and DH's sister wants him to come to her baby shower 6 hours away from home during the month of April. I'm really hesitant about it considering if I go into labor early and him not being here. I think I'd kill someone. Maybe his sister. Maybe him. (I have no history of early labor so I'd really doubt this will be an issue, just a very small concern.)
