Can anyone explain why some people on these message boards get so snarky when someone talks about wanting to know their baby's "gender" versus saying they want to know the "sex" of their child? Yes, I know the two are different but it's SOOO pretentious, rude, and frankly, embarassing the way some people feel the need to point it out.
I just read a post where some asked if other women were going to find out the "gender" and four people wrote something to the effect of " ugh, I hate it when people say gender and not sex". I can't help but wonder why they bothered to read the post when it clearly (GASP) used the word "gender" in the post's title.
I think some of them must have just learned the difference and now they have to act like the word police. It's sickening and rude to steal someone's thunder with such pettiness.
To me it's the equivalent asking someone how they are doing and they answer, " I'm good. How are you?" and then replying with " I'm WELL" and exaggerating " well".
Yes, there is a grammatically correct answer and yes, it is correct to say "sex" not "gender" but we all know what the person means.
Can we agree to stop being smug, judgmental mommies and start being a little kinder? I get so disappointed reading some people's negative replies to someone's happy/excited post. Lighten up ladies! You know who you are! :-)

Wow. I find this post to be far more annoying. Just saying...
I just love it when someone is complaining about preachy, self-righteous posters that suck. You know, when they are doing the exact same thing.
How do you see where you are going with your nose up in the air like that?

But...but... Ignorance is the new black! The sparkly baby-powder scented dreams of blue or pink nappies is all that matters! Dream squishers! Can't we all just ignore the push for equal rights?!

I would duck if I were you. He or she might not be one for talking after that adorable conversation...

Also, who picked my children's genders since we don't have a god or gods?

Thanks for calling me disgusting and sorry, I'm not going anywhere. What are you going to do about that? Call me another name? Get a life!
And...

It's a damn fact! There is no opinion to be had.

Im not going to get into the religion side of this debate. But i do think its important to use correct terminology.
Shockingly, is is entirely possible to throw up and think about other things (like how disgusting some posters in this thread are) at the same time.
Sex and gender are different. That's a fact. Not an opinion.
Your interpretation of the bible doesn't change facts.
Same here. Theres been no dtd since ds was born end of july.
But but but...no.
We're not discussing opinions on gender and sex, we're discussing facts.
Let's break it down with a silly, yet easy, example.
If I came here and said that tigers were my favorite kind of dog, you'd correct me by pointing out that tigers were cats, not dogs.
If I responded, "That's your opinion," you'd think I was an idiot because it's NOT an opinion, it's a fact. There's no opinion to debate.
Well, that's what everyone is trying to explain to you. We're discussing the factual differences between sex and gender. You're interchanging the words as if they mean the same thing.
well, that was cute.
