Feeling Scared 1st Pregnancy

It's my first pregnancy and I had spotting a week ago, called the doctor and they said it was normal based on the color, but I swear every time I go to the bathroom I am constantly checking to make sure there is no blood. I'm just very afraid maybe I have an ectopic pregnancy, chemical pregnancy, etc, freaking myself out.  My husband and I are just so excited to be pregnant that I am worrying myself to death.  My first appointment is not for another 3 weeks, seems like forever and my close friend had a miscarriage at 8 weeks so ever since then I am freaking myself out.  Is this normal? Is there any way to rest easy?

I love that. I'm a FTM too and constantly worry. Until our u/s next week, my emotions will be all over the place. I think this is normal, so don't fret -- try and enjoy the moment.

  • I think it is normal to check all the time.  I have done it with all of mine and never had any issues till this time around.  It is better to be aware than to not be.

  • Thanks ladies...I really am so happy, my husband and I cried when we found it, I just want to make sure that little baby is healthy, etc....the worrying has already begun! Trying to take your advice to just be happy!
  • I'm a FTM. I was nervous and scared too in the beginning. I just kept telling myself worrying over everything is pointless, bc what ever happens is going to regardless. So the the whole "your pregnant today. Be happy about it today" is true and good advise. :-) . Also your pregnancy is going to fly by I'm 27 weeks and can't believe how fast it's gone.
  • I'm a STM and i still do that even at 17 weeks. It's normal... I think bleeding is just such a common occurrence during pregnancy that even though it usually means nothing bad or serious, it's often related to something bad or serious. So it naturally can freak us out.
  • It's normal. The only thing you can do is take it a day at a time. Congrats. Wishing you the best.

  • I also check all the time, so that to me seems pretty normal. But don't worry yourself to death! Just keep thinking good thoughts, and if you have any doubts or fears that just won't go away, call your doctor or speak to a nurse. Congrats on the pregnancy! I sincerely hope everything goes well for you!

  • I think it is perfectly normal to worry. I am a FTM too, and I worry but not as much as I thought I would. I'm so thankful to be pregnant, I find myself thinking about that more than anything!
    Hugs :)
  • I checked a lot in the beginning too. So,etimes I would even go to the bathroom just to check because I'd swear I felt something dowm there. But eventually I stopped amd I'm sure you will too. Then there will be new things to worry about! But hopefully you will learn that while reasons to worry never stop, you get better at managing them.

  • Its fairly normal to worry. Worry comes from the hormone progesterone that's circulating in you. Keep certain red flags like bright red bleed accompanied with cramping in mind..rest of the moderate symptoms are quite normal
