I've never had a flu shot and been scared to get one, but with the flu going around like crazy right now thinking I should. Especially since they say pregnancy women need it more. Your thoughts on it and during pregnancy?
My doctor advised that I get one so I did. I did it in the fall during early second trimester. You should ask your doctor, but I believe most say to get it in most cases.
I got mine as early as I could. My friend opted not to get the flu shot while she was pregnant and ended up getting it. She got a fever and had to have an emergency C-section before she was full term.
Ask your doctor, but I think it's much riskier not to get the shot.
My boss got the flu shot (which he gets every year) and still got the flu. Its a hit or miss. I think the strain that's going around is different than what they predicted. Remember the strains change and mutate, so not everything is preventable. BUT they are helpful.
I did as I have gotten the flu twice in my life and it was awful. I can't even imagine getting the flu while pregnant (colds are awful lol) so if anything can slightly help protect me I am taking it. I have gotten it every year for over 5 years since my last job had alot of exposure to sick people in teh winter.
The flu shot also helps protect your baby if they are born during flu season since babies can't get the shot until after 6 months. If you're scared to get the shot just imagine how scared you'll be if your baby has to be hospitalized because they got the flu at 2 weeks old.
I got one with my first Daughter and I got it with this pregnancy too. I see it as a "Better safe than sorry" situation, and my Ob/Gyn says it can help my baby if I get the flu shot so it helps her be protected.I would just say that you need to remember that getting the flu shot does not guarantee that you won't get the flu. With my first pregnancy I only got one little cold. With this pregnancy, even after getting the flu shot, my entire household got the flu. We were all throwing up and my brother got pneumonia. I guess this year has been really, really bad with the influenza A going around, at least in this area.
Yes get it! I got it and I did catch the flu but it wasn't as bad and I didn't have to be hosplitized just stayed home and took a Z-pack for my cough...Doc said if I didn't get the shot then me and the baby would of been in trouble...please get it
I also have asthma and it turns in chest infection and pneumonia very fast so they put me on that to be safe, happens every year. After I got sick I started to cough green mucus stuff and they wanted to make sure I was going be ok. But blood test showed the flu virus also so I got a double wammy....
It's in the best interest for you and the baby. I think it's silly that you would consider Not getting one. Especially considering how many infants get sick this time of year. You're about to push a baby out of your body and you're scared of a needle? Woman up and get one. This should be the least scary thing in your future.
FFS people, the stomach flu is not influenza and is not what the vaccine protects against! Please educate yourselves! Also, influenza is not treated with antibiotics. It is a virus, which is treated with Tamiflu, which is an antiviral. I'm guessing out of all the people squawking about how they got a flu shot and still got the flu, the vast majority of them did not have influenza.
And after seeing the way H1N1 has been tearing through the hospital I work in this year, anyone, pregnant or not, would be an idiot to opt out of a vaccine.
Absolutely. Even if you have a bunch of (mostly illogical) reasons not to get it for your own self, please get it to protect your baby. Babies are not able to get their own vaccination until 6 months, so if they are exposed in those 6 months, the consequences could be awful. And should you get the flu while you're pregnant, it becomes risky for your unborn baby, never mind how miserable you are going to be, not able to take most of the usual OTCs to feel better.
I have gotten the shot every year for 5 years now and have been flu free and happy. The shot is nothing, as was pointed out earlier - you've got much bigger physical sacrifices coming up in your near future!
I personally didn't get mine. I was sick for 3 months & didn't wanna risk getting sick for a few more days. Sounds silly, but that was my reasoning.
Hey, I've gotten sick daily this entire pregnancy and still got a flu shot, because I'm smart enough to realize a few days of being mildly ill from a rare side-effect is much better than being hospitalized with the flu.

& the rare side effect you're talking about isn't so rare or mild for me. Worse than anything I've been sick from. I've been hospitalized from the flu shot. My dr. reccomended I not get it because of what its done to me in the past. So, please don't speak on my personal decission when you don't know the half. But ya'know, good for you & your luck with the flu shot & blah blah blah. Mine hasn't been the same.

I gotta say it. I totally feel sorry for her kid.
As do I for your child. (:
LOL. Not sure why. His mother isn't an ignorant pothead moron.

No, but the example you're setting, yaaaknow, the judgemental bitch one, is terrible. Oh & not a pot head. I've smoked pot yes, but I don't anymore. & also, not a moron. (:

Says the girl who posted asking if her kid will be fine after she smoked pot until she was 4 months pregnant. Let's not risk the flu shot, now.
I didn't know I was pregnant until I was almost 4 months. & knowing it could risk my childs' life, according to a real life dr., not a bunch of bored judgemental moms, to get it, I, as you would've too, opted out. Thank you.
@katieebuug, if you were sick for 3 months, how did you not figure out sooner than your 4th month that you were pregnant? Too stoned to care?
Well, that's how I figured out, I didn't have morning sickness until almost my 4th month (which is when I found out) and ended in the end of my sixth month. Who said morning sickness was just for the first 3 months?

I had mine with my first and had it with this child as well.
Not sure why you haven't had it yet, but I suppose it would depend on how far along you are.
