Holy Rib Pain!

So who else is dealing with this one? My ribs have been killing me for the last couple days and I think I might lose my mind! Not really, but this is driving me nuts. According to the midwife its totally normal but irritating. I didn't get this one with my last pregnancy so I was a little surprised by it. Anyone have any tips for relief?

Re: Holy Rib Pain!

  • I didn't know rib pain was a normal symptom of pregnancy. No idea what that would feel like but I know aches and pains and I hope you feel better soon! Have you tried changing positions, a bath, Tylenol?

I noticed it the other night while trying to lay on my side. I never had it with my first either. So far I haven't found anything to help. I'll be interested to see ideas!

  • Just today this started happening! But it's more of my ribs... And whole midsection. Hopefully just growing pains that will come and go!
  • It is your ribs on both sides, because rib pain is a sign of gallstones and that does happen to pregnant women.

  • Mostly just on my left side. I actually have had gallbladder issues since DS was born and its definitely not that! I guess its just the ribcage stretching to make room for everything.   :(

  • It's a normal symptom of things shifting around in there. I don't get it always but it hurts most when I lay a certain way. Here's what helped reduce it for me:

A Preggy wedge pillow to properly support my growing bump as I sleep on my side or even lay on it while watching tv

Stretching: seated spinal twists help and so does standing about a foot from the wall and reaching my arms up as high as they can go against the wall; then I take deep deep breaths and continue to stretch my body as much as I can. I do both for just a few minutes each when I'm really hurting and I find it very helpful!

    Hope this helps :)
