Need opinions ASAP Update in OP

So I have a FTM freak out. I woke up today and I am spotting. I have to work but now Im afraid that this is the beginning of something worse. Should I call the on call doc and get their opinion...I may not hear back from them until after I have to be back at work. Should I just call in and go the the ER if it persists? Should I just go to work and pray nothing worse happens?

I am 17w 4d if that makes a difference?

UPDATE

I saw the doctor today (different than my regular doctor and I really liked him). We listened to the heart beat and did a pelvic exam (which was incredibly painful). The heart beat was hard to find at first I just knew it was gone and then BINGO he found it, 146 BPM. He found that the baby is very low and is concerned about that but my cervix is closed. He said something about the cervix that could be causing the baby to be so low, I can't remember what it was because I was feeling overwhelmed, or my fluid is too low. I go in on Wednesday for an ultrasound that will measure all sorts of things. Doctor wanted me to get in today or tomorrow but scheduling couldn't make it work. In the mean time I am on pelvic rest and I am driving myself insane resorting to Dr. Google. Oh, and he is concerned because I have a lot of pressure and tightness. I thought it was normal growing pains, but maybe not.

I again want to thank everyone for all the advice and support that I have gotten. You have no idea how much it means to me.

I've been bleeding heavily for 2 weeks and everything is ok, so try to stay calm (I know this is MUCH easier said than done).

Do you have any cramping? If it is just light spotting with no cramps I would say call the on call doc and see what they say (they'll probably tell you if you are worried to go to the ER, FYI). In the meantime, up your water intake.

If you're also cramping, IMO, go straight to the ER. Do not pass go, do not collect $200. In my personal experience, when my bleeding first started, the ER did nothing to calm my fears. They did an ultrasound but because it was an emergency I never got to see the baby and was just told that she is ok and to follow up with my doctor.

Also, if you choose to go to the ER please do not go alone. Bring your DH, mom, BFF, anyone. Even in the best case scenario driving to the hospital while your mind is so distracted is scary in itself, and it's best to have someone take you. And you'll want the moral support while you're waiting it out in the room.

I agree with SNLT. I would also call the on call Dr especially if they are in the same hospital as the ER. With our history, I'm sure you would feel better at least calling in, putting your feet up and either going to the ER or waiting for the on call Dr. Please keep us updated.

These are the questions the nurse always asks me: What color is the blood? Do you have any dull cramping or sharp pains? Do you have a fever or chills? Do you fill a pad or it is only when you wipe? Did you recently have sex?

Brown spotting with little to no cramps is probably the least concerning. It's still worth mentioning to your doctor, especially if you're RH negative. If you are, then you need to see the doc within 72 hours of spotting for the Rhogam shot. However, if I were bleeding red with clots, filling a pad and cramping I would go straight to the ER and not wait for an appt.

I would call the on-call doctor and tell them what's going on. You can go to work if you have to and if you feel comfortable just tell your boss you have a medical issue that may require you to leave unexpectedly from work today.

The doc will probably bring you in to do a quick ultrasound or to hear the heartbeat. They should also check your cervix to see if it's still closed.

Good luck sweets, I'm sure everything is fine. There's a bunch of us girls who are still or who have spotted in second tri (myself, SNLT, SchoolSteph, etc) and all our babies seem to be healthy and happy. It's mama bleeding for one reason or another! Keep us posted!

I had bright red spotting towards the end of the first trimester, luckily it was on a day I was supposed to go in for a checkup anyway, but I still called the Dr. they got me an earlier appointment and DH got off work early (I refused to go by myself because I didn't know what I was going to be told). It's definitely scary. Im a FTM too so i didnt know what to expect. I cried a lot before my appointment. Dr. did an exam and found nothing wrong and had an ultrasound done to check for clots and baby was totally fine. But I was told to make sure I get my water intake. I'd call the Dr. and sit down and drink water, I'd also call work and explain what's happening. Good luck! FX!

I agree with the other ladies. I'd call the on call OB and put your feet up and drink some water. But if you're bleeding and filling a pad and cramping, I would definitely consider heading to the ER.

I think so too! I like to keep an eye on you guys. Even though the doc's say the spotting is nothing it still sucks.

Thanks for the opinions. I have a call into the on call doctor. I also called out sick. Logically, I know this can be normal but I am just freaking myself out. I had a dream about this last night and yesterday my stomach was very tight, it hurt. I've had cramps but thought they were normal. Right now I don't have cramps, a little pressure but not really cramping. If that makes sense. I don't know if that has anything to do with the bleeding.

I really appreciate your words. Hopefully everything stops.

Agreed. Someone should start a thread. I would love to hear updates and might miss it if it's just in a daily symptoms thread.

I had spotting week 13 and got an emergency appointment, just to be told they couldn't find a reason and it just happens sometimes. I did get a RhoGAM shot then since I'm Rh negative. Fast forward to yesterday at 17 weeks and I spotted again. I called to see if I needed to go in, but was told to just keep an eye on it unless I had menstrual-like cramping, abdominal pressure (described by the nurse as "feeling like the baby is balling up"), or heavy bleeding.

Good luck and try to keep yourself distracted until you hear back from the doc!

Fx that everything is just fine I haven't had any spotting since week 9 or 10 but I still have a mini panic attack every time I wipe so I get it! I don't blame you for calling off-honesty how would you be able to concentrate right now anyway? Good luck and try to relax (sorry, have to say it!)!

Thank you all. Still haven't heard back from the doctor. My mom called my aunt that is a nurse at the hospital I'd be going to. She thinks I need to call the doctor again. I don't know how long I should wait to call or just go in. H is on his way home and I think we are going to decide what to do when he gets here.

Is it red spotting? Pink? Brown? Only when you wipe? Filling a pad? Recently had sex? Pooped? All these were asked when I finally called. Don't rush to the ER unless you are cramping and bleeding.

Ive been pink spotting for weeks now, finally went in and was told they couldn't find anything and not to call back unless it becomes red and I cramp. Definitely frustrating.

They found a SCH at my 7 week ultrasound and it had shrunk (but was still there) by my 10 week ultrasound. I hadn't had any bleeding until now. Could that have anything to do with it? I wouldn't think so but maybe?

I've not had an SCH but from what I've read about them they either bleed out or get absorbed back into your body. If that's correct it could definitely be from that.

It definitely can, that's what caused my bleeding anyways. My SCH was over the cervix, and the weekend before Christmas the babies shifted positions from side/side to top/bottom. When they moved they put pressure on the cervix and it seemed to cause the SCH to bleed a bit. Last ultrasound showed there was still a pocket of blood that may or may not continue to bleed. It's lovely.

I'm sending prayers that everything is okay. I too have an SCH, that has shrunk down greatly over time, but it could definitely be the cause of your bleeding. I hope your doc's office calls back soon!! Fingers crossed that it's nothing serous and that baby is happy and healthy! Keep us posted if you can!

Sending you lots of hugs. I had a gush of bright red blood this morning, but no cramps and it was just 1 gush. I am also laying around at home trying to figure out the right thing to do. I hope yours stops soon!

Still no call back. But I'm not bleeding any more. I haven't had any cramping so I feel like it may just be something I don't have to worry about. I hope. I really appreciate all the advice and thoughts you girls have sent me.

T&P for you! I have spotted a couple times this pregnancy, the last time being at 13 weeks and that one was very pink and worrisome. After that I was told that this just happens to some women for no apparent reason, but it is still very scary and not fun at all. Hang in there!

I haven't. She isn't in on the weekend, and I know they would just send me to the ER. I know the ER can't do anything for me, so I'm just waiting. The bleeding only seems to come with BMs, and the only time it was a lot and bright red was the first time, so I'm hopeful I just irritated something. I have a friend from my daughter's BMB mailing me her doppler, so hopefully that will give me some peace of mind when it gets here. If the bleeding become more continuous, or if I get cramps I'll go to the ER. Otherwise I'll wait and get in touch with my doctor on Monday.

If it was me, I would go. I was bleeding in my last pregnancy and they told me that I had placenta previa and to take it easy.. You don't need to stress either and a trip to the er to see if everything is okay will give you peace of mind.

I agree with this. I had a SCH and bled from 5weeks - 11 weeks... It finally cleared up. At my 15 week appointment I was told I have placenta previa and if I have any bleeding at all to go straight to the ER.

It's really a tough call on what to do. Ill send you good vibes

Nothing to update really. I haven't bled since this morning. I'm just having back spasms, which isn't related. I didn't hear back from the doctor, which I find more annoying than anything else. At this point I am just going to wait until Monday and talk to my doctor.

Again, I really appreciate all the kind words and advice today. I know that I freaked myself out and my PGAL brain got the best of me.
