Safe makeup?

Does anyone know of the safest makeup products that can be used during pregnancy? This is my first and I'm 5 weeks along

Re: Safe makeup?

  • I've just read so many things about changing certain products because of all the chemicals in them. I am by no means freaking out or consider myself a "delicate little flower." I Just want to make sure I'm not using harmful products that are being absorbed through my skin.
  • *facepalm*

Please pick up a good pregnancy book (NOT What to Expect When You're Expecting) and have a read.

I'm very surprised at some of the judgmental comments on here. Sorry not everyone on here is an "expert." This is my first pregnancy and I'm waiting for my drs. appt to further get my questions answered. But in the mean time, I've decided to ask people like you. I've been reading so much online and was confused as to what is safe during pregnancy. No need for comments like "face palm." If you're going to be negative or judgmental about my questions, please don't waste your time answering. And I will be purchasing a highly informed pregnancy book, thank you.
  • You're just a troll. Get off of this site if you can't be helpful. It's not a stupid question if all you've been reading are things telling you to stop using this and that, and makeup with salicylic acid shouldn't be used. And I'm pretty sure you had some off the wall questions when you were first pregnant! So quit being judgmental. Why do you even respond if not to be helpful. Nobody needs your advice.
  • And I've never used this site before. That's what I thought the forum was for. To ask questions and get helpful answers. If you are going to be a troll and a rude bitch, don't waste your time replying to my stupid questions.
  • I apologize, I shouldn't have called you that. However, I think it's very immature of you as well to be as rude and judgmental as you have been. We are not in high school and this is not fb. I have genuine concerns and maybe "stupid" questions. All I'm saying is if you can't be helpful, please don't respond.
  • Wow! I'll keep that in mind. Thanks for your help! I have SOOO much common sense now. Thank you!! =D>
  • And yes, you grown, oh so mature, experienced ladies are trolls. But thanks for welcoming me to this site. I now know how to conduct myself.
  • Thank you. A simple answer to my stupid question. Thank you for not being rude. I will stick with what I use.
  • Here you go! Sounds a lot like you
  • I will now keep using what I have been. I would have been ok with your advice had it not been so rude. Thank you, my usual items ( besides the liquid makeup containing salicylic acid) will stay out of the trash
  • I've learned my lesson. Will do!
  • Hahaha. Yea you wouldn't wanna throw that stuff out. It's expensive! Is it ok for oily, acne prone skin?

OP- I mainly just lurk here and honestly the responses you got from the so-called "bullies" are the exact same responses I would get from irl friends if I asked the same question. They are not trying to be malicious, they are just showing you how ridiculous some of these concerns are. Understand? Try not to take it personally.

Anyway, glad to see you decided not to throw out your stuff.

  • Yes thank you. I do feel less concerned about it now. But in my defense, I think any new timer or "newb" at anything always have silly or "ridiculous" questions. And I happen to be a silly newb with this pregnancy stuff. I've realized I shouldn't take all those crazy internet site scares so seriously. I feel much more at ease. Thank you
  • I will be checking out Barnes and noble to see if they carry those books. I'm sure they'll help answer all of my crazy questions.
  • Thanks for the advice! No drama here if you read the last couple posts. Everything is fine, I got my silly question answered. Thanks.

And I'll be sure not to eat my makeup lol. I was only concerned with the makeup I have that has salicylic acid in it and my anti aging products/makeup since it's been said that certain anti-acne creams with these ingredients are a no-no because they can be absorbed through the skin. I'm just going to keep using what I have and discuss any concerns with my dr. I'm at ease, not worried about it anymore.

    It's just eyeshadow. You're good.

  • @meery82. Thanks. I probably should've been more specific about the makeup I was referring to. Specifically Clinique liquid foundation with salicylic acid. But I think I'll just use my Mary Kay foundation without the acne aid
  • @jendem8 thank you :) I appreciate your reply and advice. I'm just a newbie trying to learn lol.

Had an IRL friend asked me the same question, I would've done a *facepalm*, asked her if she really thought her question was at all logical and then we would've laughed about it. I am a fan of common sense.

  • On this paranoid note, is it okay to use Crest Whitestrips?
I'm being featured in a new pregnancy/motherhood blog during the month of October, so if you ever wanted to know more about my pregnancy, birth, and motherhood experiences than anyone ever should, check out my posts in the link below! :)

  • First trimester..... always delivers the daily drama.

Just to be fair, several of the 'you're an idiot for asking such a stupid question' responses included, 'just stay away from retinol or salicylic acid'. Sort of makes it sound like a legit question.

cjespinoza, If you think this is bad, try using the word preggo in your next post and you'll see how much fun the ladies will have at your expense.

  • My OB told me that Salicylic acid was fine. I had a lot of skin blemishes early in 2nd tri and asked about using it, and she said there was no issue with it. Unfortunately it only helped minimally at clearing my skin.

  • Unless you're powdering your nose with coke I'm sure makeup is ok

My OB never told me to avoid those. Makes me think it's not such a hard-and-fast rule as, say, avoiding high-mercury seafood.
Just to clarify, I agree make-up is pretty benign. I just think flaming someone for asking a question that did, in fact, have some legitimate responses made me feel a little sad for her that she became target practice.

  • You ladies are awful
Harsh. Jumped in here from 2nd tri group to see what all the fuss was about. Let the girl ask her questions. For us FTM this shiz is scary, new territory. No question is stupid. She obviously did do her homework and googled or searched and came back with conflicting answers. She came her for advice and you all attacked. If you want to joke, remember it's all how you deliver the message. No need to be snarky!!!

She got real answers that were also funny. This was not harsh.
