Random Friday Thoughts

Just because I want to chat about all sorts of random stuff....

*I am waiting for the guys to come over to fix our windshield.  They will be calling my husband before they come over, and as long as he isn't busy he will be able to call and let me know.  Since I BF, I really hope he is able to let me know so that I can feed the baby before they come over, otherwise they might end up with a free show.

*It's snowing so hard here, I can't see across the street.  My sister lives about 20 minutes away, and it's not snowing there at all. ugh.

*Our local minor league baseball park is on fire.  It's making me more sad than I expected it to.  I've been there a lot, and it's one of the places DH and I went on our first dates.

Anyone else have random thoughts today?

  • I'm glad someone else called out a lady on @BlondieBia21's Facebook for telling her to let T CIO. I wanted to but didn't want to create shit in her FB. It made me happy that someone else did.

  • SO just changed LO's diaper and it was a sweet potato mess! It was disgusting. Orange and smelt disgusting!

I want to go eat froyo so bad but SO thinks froyo is gross and a waste of money so it looks like I'll be making a trip to the "grocery store" by myself.

Call me crazy but I wish it would snow here already. I'm in WA and we normally get a to of snow. We still don't have any and it's 30 degrees out. Boo. I want some pretty snow to look at.

I sure I'll be back with more later :)

That makes more sense.  I was sitting here thinking, wouldn't the snow help put out the fire.

    My thoughts exactly

    Can I play?

I let myself get all worked up reading about sleep training, CIO, not CIO ect. We transitioned LO to her own room yesterday and she could care less. I put her down drowsy but awake and she goes to sleep on her own, when she wakes up in the middle of the night she doesn't cry (unless something is wrong) she babbles and goes back to sleep on her own (no more MOTN feedings!) and shes napping better than ever. I feel silly for all the "research" I did when clearly LO runs her own show.

Im jealous of all you getting snow! We are under the same system that just dumped snow in VA but its not cold enough here so we just got pounded with rain and wind boo!

I just downloaded panstoria (digital scrapbooking) and its AMAZING, Im having a blast while LO sleeps

That's been my week too. The random bursts of screaming is adorable, but so freaking annoying. Especially when my mom called and proceeded to think I was neglecting my baby.

  • I was just wishing it was Monday so I could "bitch" about the rotating blackouts we are having. Apparently there is a power shortage due to colder than normal temperatures, so we need to have blackouts to save power. If that's what we have to do then fine. But it doesn't make sense that we have to go without heat while malls are still open (using tons of power!), the Christmas lights that the city filled the parks with are all lit up, confederation building is lit up, etc. There was an accident last night because the lights went out at an intersection, along with all the street lights in the vicinity (im sure there was more than one accident, but this is just one that I saw). Come on NL Power get your priorities in order! Shut down non-essential power (malls/businesses/etc) if you need to, but this is bullshit. Vent over.
WTF?! not a smart use of power at all..... :-/

I love having FB Bumpie Friends.  1) I get to see lots of cute babies all the time without people having to be AW's and 2) I am surrounded by people who are going through the exact sleep deprived experiences as me which make me feel a little more normal.

I was thinking this this morning. You're all awesome. My whole FB has just become women in the same boat as I am, plus all the cute babies.

That's too funny about @BlondieBia21's aunt on FB.

  • If you can't feed gremlins after midnight what time is it safe to feed them in the morning?
  • I think BBQ sauce is awesome and I definitely need to start using it more! I just heated up some popcorn chicken for DS and I and realized we had BBQ sauce and it was delicious
  • Wipe warmers are the best, unnecessary invention for babies ever. I should put one in the bathroom for myself...

Also, is anyone else having a harder time changing diapers now that the babies are sticking their feet in their mouths?

  • Back story - my school was hit by an F3 tornado in June 2011. We're in a temporary building. I don't want to go to work on Monday even though I've been on vacation for 2 weeks. The heat doesn't work well when we have temps in the teens or lower. It's going to be COLD in my classroom. My guess is it'll be in the low 60s, maybe high 50s.

  • @Jill9288 My DH was all about renting, until we found our current house. It's smaller than the last place we rented, but it's about $300 cheaper, and it's OURS.  The financial part of it is what sold DH on it.  Hopefully you can convince him!!

@Zever000 yep.  LO always has her toes in her mouth.  It makes it easy to clean her, but she refuses to put her legs down for me to get her diaper on/off.  Bath time is also hard, because she is always sucking on her feet.

LO will literally grab her dirty diaper and start flinging it around like its a toy. She did it this morning with her poopy one and I grabbed it in time before she made a disgusting mess. She also tries to roll. It's like impossible to get her diaper on now.

I'm really trying to talk DH into buying when we move instead of renting. I'm just sick of paying rent and getting nowhere. I've found lots of houses below what we were thinking we wanted to pay, that would be at or below our current rent. Here's hoping...
We pay a lot less on our mortgage than most people pay in rent for our area.  It can actually save you a lot of money!
I always think about that, but then I freak out when I consider the costs of repairs. Like, as a renter, I can call my landlord and things will be fixed with no out of pocket cost to me. If I'm the homeowner, I'm footing that bill. What if I don't have the money to get a plumber out ASAP? Or get my roof fixed? Or fix whatever else goes wrong... That scares me!

So, I have this terrible problem of when I read, I just kind of scan and then my eyes get all goofy. So when I read this, I saw Clinton and Hilary Clinton popped in my head.... I kept reading then was like, wait what? I'm glad it says Clinton Kelly, and not Hilary Clinton.

I'm glad you guys all got a kick out of my FB comment :)

Feet in the mouth makes it easier to wipe her butt.

Owning is way better than renting.  as far as repairs, we bought brand new, so our house came with a warranty :D  Our mortage is less than our old rent, but the HOA dues make it more.  But this morning to woke up to about 6 inches of snow, plowed roads and perfectly shoveled sidewalks, right up to my door :)

You are really lucky. My first was like this and I didn't truly appreciate how AMAZING that was until now. This kid can't put himself to sleep to save his life and when he wakes up in the MOTN, our neighbors know it.

  • @Zever000 DH and I joke that DS thinks changing his diaper is a game.  I should almost record it becuase he is so wiggly, kicks like crazy and then wants to play with his toes while I am trying to put it back on.  Part of me is annoyed, part of me is scared I will have a toddler that is wild, and part of me reminds myself to enjoy this part of his personality because he is just so darn cute.  I worked in daycare for a long time and am usually pretty quick at changing diapers.  DS has definitely challenged my skills lately.

It is really scary, and every repair is a huge learning experience. But like PP have said, some sellers will offer a home warranty (usually for 1 year), and that can be helpful. If you can't find a home warranty, then it's definitely a good idea to have a rainy day fund for when the hot water heater breaks. (Which happened to us, the DAY after I depleted our checking account to pay LO's hospital bills.)

  • I think my best friend judges me because my LO isn't on a schedule and takes forever to put down at night.  She had her baby on rigid schedule by the time she was 8 weeks old and she also was able to put her to bed with no problem.  She keeps telling me what I'm doing wrong.  I don't think she understands that each baby is different.  My baby doesn't enjoy sleeping. And frankly, I haven't put too much effort on getting her on a tight schedule.  I've set up routines for her, but I want a little flexibility for our lives and they didn't have that when their daughter was a baby because they were so rigid with schedules.  I just wish she wasn't so uptight about it.  It's not like she's getting up in the middle of the night with her.
  • DH is helping a friend move this weekend and I'm looking forward to my day alone with lo to snuggle and hold while she sleeps.

I've watched the entire season of orange is the new black in the past 5 days.

  • Jack demolished a good chunk of sweet potato last night at dinner. My mom couldn't believe I just gave it to him to eat. He loved it!

We got some bad news today, DH's step-gpa passed away, he was an amazing man and always treated us like his own. I'm just glad we took J to meet him when they were in town. :(

    I'm so sorry :(
It's really good that your LO got to meet him though.

Yes. Last week he was helpful because he just lifted his legs. This week his feet are always in his hands which makes it very difficult.

Everyone "moms" differently. I HATE that there's so much competition between all moms of who can do what better. We are all guilty of it in a way. YOU are doing the best you can, that's what matters. Your daughter knows you love her and you'll be there for her to follow her cues and her needs at that time. Don't be too hard on yourself!
