Status of the Vag Check-in

mrsjennimrsjenni member
edited January 2014 in January 2014 Moms
Can we have a status of the vag check-in?  For those still PG, what's going on down there?  Any progress (not that it means much) and/or any recent developments as far as a planned induction or c/s (for whatever reason... hopefully medically related)?  How long will your OB let you go past your EDD?

Let's here it!  I've been out of the loop since December 20th and I need to know ALL THE THINGS.

  • I am 39 weeks and 3 days today. At my appointment this past Tuesday (39 weeks 1 day) I was 1 cm dilated and my cervix was "starting to thin." I know it doesn't mean much, but I was pretty sad that that was it. I also found out I tested positive for the GBS test.
My midwife told me that as soon as I go into labor or my water breaks, that I need to go straight to labor and delivery to start antibiotics. I was really hoping to labor at home for majority of my labor. I've been preparing myself for a med-free birth and I know it will be harder to do the laboring at the hospital. I'm pretty bummed about that, but a healthy baby is more important.
My midwife also said she would let me go up to 42 weeks as long as baby and mom are healthy and not distressed. I couldn't imagine going to 42 weeks feeling how I am now!

My vag is about to get poked prodded and examined by 108686 people, and then get utterly destroyed while birthing a glorious baby girl ;) induction set for 12- so by the time they get me in a room, get IV's in and such, I'm thinking she is going to arrive at the peak of the snopocalypse tonight. I have been having a ton of contractions so I'm curious to see today if I'm dilated at all.
@wilburbud- SQUEEEEEEEEE!!!  Good luck today mama!

I had my appt Tuesday (38 weeks). Still dilated to a 2 (No change from last week) not effaced at all. I asked my Dr. at what point we could talk induction...She said next week because my hospital won't admit unless medically necessary at 39 weeks. So hopefully at next weeks appt I'll have some answers or hopefully she'll decide to come out on her own.

On top of baby still sitting pretty high I have a yeast infection from last weeks Sinus infection antibiotics.

  • My cervix is still Fort Knox. I have no doubt that I will not dilate until the last possible second.

@mrsjenni, I was wondering about your 3hr GTT, just out of curiosity's sake. I still think it's weird that they made you do it.
  • I am 38 weeks 3 days with a breech baby.  No one bothers to check if I have any dilation or effacement or anything else because baby will not be using her natural exit path.  Scheduled c-section for 40 weeks 1 day although my husband and I are living in fear of me going into labour now because I have to get to the hospital ASAP.

  • My next appointment is today at 11am CST, so I'll update after that.  Today is my due date, btw.

2 weeks ago I was 3cm dilated and 75% effaced.  Last week I saw a different doctor (mine is on vaca) and he said I was 2cm dilated and 50% effaced.  So, not quite sure what's going on with that.

All I know is Baby is still inside, and doesn't appear to be coming any time soon. I don't know exactly how long I'll be allowed to go without induction.  I know my OB is willing to let me go past my due date with more regular monitoring because I had initially wanted to avoid being induced entirely.  I won't be seeing her today (still on vaca), so I'm not sure what the plan will be from here on out.  I'm going to request to see her on Monday to hash out a plan.  Unfortunately we didn't come up with one before she left for the holidays because according to her "it would be a waste of time because there's no way I'll make it to my due date".  And here I am...

  • I have a induction scheduled for Tuesday the 7th for high bp. This has been very upsetting for me as I didn't want any intervention until after 40 weeks. As of my 36 week appointment, I wasn't dilated at all but I have another appointment today so I may (hopefully) learn that's changed. I'm bringing my hospital bag with me tho because I was sent to L&D after my last appointment! I think my doctor wants to do this faster than I do...

@peanutmuse- You and me both, sista.  I called this morning and hope to hear back soon.  Basically MFM nagged my OB about it b/c OMGTHEBABYISHUGE, but really?  So are all my kids.  So I talked to my OB about it and she said they would treat the delivery differently if I had GD, so I decided to take it "just in case".  And even my OB said "at least we can shut them up" (MFM).  Can't wait to hear back!  I'm assuming you passed yours??  What's the plan as far as your delivery??

  • I haven't had any vag exams, not planning to until labour begins.  Some moments it feels like this baby will fall out from the pressure, but then it usually goes away.

Since this will hopefully be a VBAC, my midwife was discussing with us on Monday (Dec 30th) about getting a letter from an OB in town to recommend how long they let me go past due.  She's expecting with my history (which is good), the OB will still say 41 weeks is the longest I should be pregnant.  I'm hoping this dude makes an appearance on his own, I'd rather try for the VBAC without pitocin.

Part of me is excited though, since DH has to go away for work for 4-6 weeks in February, the sooner this baby comes, the more time DH gets with a little squishy baby.

  • I'm 40 weeks today! (Yikes!!) At my last appointment (last Friday) I was 60% effaced and about a finger-tip dilated. Since myself and pretty much all of my siblings were born late I asked the Dr. how long they would let me go past my due date. She told me 41 weeks. She mentioned that if I didn't deliver by my appointment tomorrow morning we would discuss induction. I would love for LO to come on her own but at the same time, I'm ready for her to be here. I'm just hoping she doesn't decide to make her appearance in the middle of the night tonight when this snow storm is supposed to be at it's worst.

  • I finally figured out how I can post from my computer again instead of getting the "body required" errors (no thanks to The Bump)- so yay for me actually feeling like I can participate beyond a "Good luck" post from my iPad.

Anyhoo, I think the baby is starting to drop, as my trips to the bathroom have increased and I'm feeling a lot of pressure on my pelvic floor. Don't have another appointment until Monday where I'm sure they will check me and I'll have the GBS test. I think I need another week or so to prepare for work and last minute baby things, then I will be so ready to get this baby out of me. That said, I don't think I will go early. We'll see.

@mrsjenni - I was wondering what you've been up to. Good to see your precious family's smiling faces back.

@wilburbud - sending lots of positive thoughts for a quick and easy delivery!

  • 36w5d-  Had an appt Monday... my new doc didn't check me, but things feel different. After some ST, H and I were in the shower washing up and I swear, I was like hello cervix! I asked H if it felt different and he said it was waaay softer.  Next appt isn't until the 9th, so I guess I will know then.

Yes, I passed with flying colors. But I figured out why I failed the 1 hr. The first two hours I was very close to the cut off point, but by the third hour, my number was like half of the cut off point. Apparently it takes my body longer to process sugars, but ultimately it does and well.

On Tuesday, my blood pressure and swelling were good. I do have some protein in my urine, but it's not out of control yet. I have a size/position ultrasound tomorrow. We were going to start talking about induction at my appt this week, but for now everything seems to be status quo so we'll reassess the situation next Tuesday -- unless something changes, of course.
  • I'm closed, but soft, and as high as always (my cervix, silly people ;) ). The baby has continued spinning, but seems to have been head down yesterday and this morning.

My contractions are driving me nuts, but there's nothing I can do about it. They told me to wait until I can't talk through them (which is why I went in on Friday!!!) and they are 10 minutes apart (again, the reason I was in on Friday!!!)

I have an appointment tomorrow to discuss next steps. Possibly having the baby Monday, unless the baby has other ideas (like, today would be fine with me!). If my water breaks, it's going to be a c/s, they won't even check baby's position, is what it sounds like.

  • At my last cervical check baby's head was "low and engaged" but my cervix was locked up tight. Here's hoping there's been some progress when I have my appointment tomorrow at noon. We're supposed to be picking a date for my induction then, and how soon it will be will depend on the results of my growth u/s tomorrow morning. If LO is measuring any farther behind then they'll want to induce right away. If not, we can wait a little while. Either way my doctors don't particularly want to let me go past my due date so we're looking at 2 weeks max before I get to meet my LO.

My section is scheduled at the end of the month and I don't think my doctor will offer any checks (if she does I will decline). Hoping to make it to the scheduled date.

  • @mrsjenni  love the thread title!

I am currently 3 CM, almost completely thinned out (been there since Christmas Eve). I am scheduled to be induced on the 8th due to high BP. We are having a massive snow storm here right now, the roads already suck ass and DH has to work 45 miles away so I fully expect to go into labor while he is at work..lol. I also tested GBS positive so I can't wait it out at home forever like I want, despite living 3 min from the hospital.

On a positive note, today was NST #3 in a row where little man was actually reactive and we didn't have to go to the biophysical. Wheee!!!!!
  • Last week I was 1-2cm and 50%. I have an ultrasound tomorrow morning to see if he's going to be evicted early due to his size. The latest my Dr will let me go is 10 days past (iM due the 15th) but she thinks it will be earlier. GBS neg and he's sitting super low and engaged in the birth canal. He can come anytime now please :-)

  • @mrsjenni - I was wondering what you've been up to. Good to see your precious family's smiling faces back.

@bridefromafar- I've been off of work since 12/20 and running around like a crazy person, so I've only had time to check-in maybe once a day, if I was lucky!  Although I'm sad the break is over, I'm happy to be back to a normal routine.  And now it's time to get my ass in gear and get ready for this baby, lol!

    tiffy1693 said:
@mrsjenni - that is crazy that you dilate early and still make it!  And so many of us complain that we feel like like our babies are going to fall out, I can only imagine what you feel!

@tiffy1693- Yeah, I'm usually a good 6cm for 2 weeks before my inductions.  My labors are REALLY fast too, so it only would scare me if I went into labor on my own.  Then I'd basically go to the hospital as soon as I started feeling timeable contractions.  I am not delivering on the side of 95, thankyouverymuch.  I'm actually happy with my inductions... much easier to plan with the kids and I also make it to the hospital on time, lol!

  • I'm only 36 weeks - am I allowed to participate if only to say that I'm pretty sure my Vag is still tightly closed for business (and judging by the constant pain in my ribs baby girl is still ignoring the gravity draws). I don't think I'll be getting any internals till 39 weeks or even later since I have no history of early dilation. But when I do dilate I go from 0-10 in under 4 hours so pretty much I'm the opposite of @mrsjenni

I haven't been dilated at all at my last 2 appointments. :(( DH and I are soooo ready to meet this little man!

@litzo- It's like the first 6 take weeks and then the last 4 go really fast!  WTH??  I have fast labors once I'm actually IN active labor (which I would have assumed 6cm = active labor, for real.) But, no.

  • At my appt. Monday I was at 2cm and he is "really low." My next appt is Monday so I am anxious to see what change there has been. I have been dealing with really bad hip/back pain and several rounds of false labor. If he doesn't come before I have a RCS scheduled for the 16th.
  • 38w4d here and closed up tight last week. Appointment tomorrow and they are doing a u/s because baby has measured big the whole pregnancy and they might consider inducing after 39w depending on his size estimate tomorrow. I'm not hopeful for any vag movement because I have hardly any contractions and they are always pretty mild and sporadic when I do have them. I don't really want to be induced but if the doctor offers it I admit I will probably jump at the chance. :-/

  • Had my weekly appointment this morning, and my cervix is still soft but not dilated.  But baby's head is right there (OB said he had his hand on his head while doing the check).  My BP was higher than normal at my appointment today, which was surprising, so they did some blood work just to make sure everything is OK.  I typically run about 120/60 and my reading today was 144/84. I found it a bit weird that they didn't have me lie down and retake it before having me give blood, but I guess they just want to be cautious.  The doctor isn't really concerned, mostly because I haven't gained any weight at my last two appointments, but just wants to make sure everything is OK.

Sorry for the AW portion of this post!

I have an appointment today! I'm 36w5d with a broken tailbone that is trying really hard to heal in time for the big event! Fingers crossed it does or OB is pushing for a section which I am trying to avoid. Basically I'm prob the only one on here that actually wants baby to stay in as long as possible to allow for healing time. (I say that loosely though. Everything else about me other than the tb says GET THIS BABY OUT!) I've been home bound ever since I fell at 32 weeks. Geeze its been a long month in these walls!

So we find out today her estimated size and also how she is positioned. Can't wait to see my girl again!! And get out of the house for a bit even if its only to see the OB. Oh and I haven't had my cervix checked yet so today may be may be a fun first on that one.

  • My cervix was soft and not dilated at my 38 week appointment. But my cervix stayed closed even at my 41 week appointment with DS1 and I went into labor 2 days later. My OB will want to induce 7-10 days past my EDD and I will likely opt for 10 days past.
  • I just had an internal. I am at 1 cm. the doc then was able to sort if bounce my babies head with her finger to determine how engaged she is. Fun times.

Actually, @cara1024 -- now that things have hit a somewhat stable plateau for me, I'm in the same camp to keep the baby in as long as possible to try to avoid a c-section. Again, we're not in exactly the same position. But I think that we are both in the same conflicted mindset -- dealing with chronic pain and knowing that labor could either make it better or much, much worse. I feel so, so bad for you and your tailbone, though. I couldn't help but shake my head at the suggestion for tylenol and ice in your post last week. I really do know that she meant well and was trying to help, but yeah..... no. ;)
