When are you making the switch?

Re: When are you making the switch?

  • My almost 2yr old is still in bed with us--so not anytime soon!

  • As soon as we got home from the hospital he was in his crib in his own room. Works best for us and he's been STTN for a few weeks now. Usually, anyway. We did the same for his big sister.

  • He forced us to, at 5 weeks, when he decided he hated his bassinet. He went from 15-20 minute increments to 2 blessed hours the first night. He's never looked back. We also have the motion and sound detecting monitors. Not what I had envisioned, but he loves his crib.

  • Just to clarify, since PP mentioned it, by STTN I mean 12 hours (and I EBF). DD was the same way and I know I am extremely lucky that they are both such good sleepers.

  • Whenever he is ready.  To make him more comfortable in his own room, we've been spending more time there and I moved his swing in there.  He still won't nap in his crib but in the swing he will.  He still sleeps best next to me, though, and I'm not complaining  :D

What do you guys do or plan of attack for getting the little one to sleep alone?

  • We moved her at at 10 weeks, when she was pretty much consistently STTN.

  • I loved DD at about 2 1/2 months when she was getting close to sleeping through the night. I wanted to start a good routine for her and, honestly, I also wanted my evenings back with my husband. When were tiptoeing around and barely whispering when we went to bed because she would be sleeping in the PNP. Plus, having the baby in the room wasn't helping getting our love life back on track.

  • When she's sttn by my definition. Not medical. I think medical sttn is only like 5 or 6 hours. I want her to go down and not have to go get her until like 6am plus. I'm thinking 5-6 months. We at least want her to be old enough to sleep train if necessary.
  • Sorry, I guess I should have clarified that the issue with her being in her crib has nothing to do with sttn and noise doesn't really bother her. I'm just having a hard time separating from her. Several family members seem kind of surprised that she's not in her crib yet and keep pressing the issue. I just feel like I should be comfortable with it before making the switch. I am glad to see that many of you have not made the switch get and that I am not alone.

Honestly, trial and error. I know he doesn't mind sleeping alone. He doesn't like being restricted in a swaddle, but his reflexes wake him up if he isn't swaddled. Someone in O13 recommended a Zipadee-Zip. I'm waiting for it to come in. Hopefully that does the trick

  • DD is STTN consistently now from 10pm - 6 or 7AM in her PnP!  I'm hesitant to disturb this nice routine she's in just yet.  She's also starting daycare when I go back to work part time next week so I'm just waiting to make sure that transition doesn't interrupt her glorious sleep.  Also, I'm going to feel so guilty leaving her I'm going to want her close by for a bit longer =).  Probably at the end of next month once we see that all is well with daycare, etc, we'll give it a try.

  • At least 6 months. For the most part she is STTN and so are we. She's tiny and nowhere near outgrowing her RNP but I guess we will cross that bridge when we come to it? Working on naps in the crib for now.
