MaterniT21 FYI

Just an FYI for anyone who was wondering. Talked to the lab who does the MaterniT21 test. If you have one of the indicators (age, history of a child with a chromosomal disorder, an abnormal ultrasound) the most the test will cost is $200. She said insurance usually covers some or all if it since these findings show medical necessity. After my research, this seems to confirm what I read that the materniT21 test is usually preferred because the cost is minimal compared to other tests out there. I will go for my blood draw in the morning hopefully after I talk to my doctor to get the script. Makes me feel better to know I won't have to dish out a bunch of money. Now I just wait and pray.

  • Fingers crossed for you that it turns out to be nothing. I'm sorry you're having to worry about this.

  • My insurance paid around 1000 but it considered out of network so the lab sent me a bill for 1800- I called and they said I will only have to pay 200, but I feel like they get this amount from everyone even if your insurance pays!

Ya I saw $200 in a few places when I was researching. It will be the best $200 we ever spent.
